A Change In Romney's Television Advertising

20 Aug 2007 03:02 pm

For the time being, Gov. Mitt Romney's presidential campaign has stopped airing its television ads on network affiliates in Iowa and New Hampshire, Republicans who traffic in traffic say.

A rotation of ads is still running on cable television channels in those states. But the total volume will be markedly less noticable to television viewers than in July, when Romney's advertising saturated several Iowa television markets.

Republican media sources say the amount of radio commercial time Romney has bought is unchanged.

"We are still broadcasting ads in early primary states," said Kevin Madden, Romney's spokesman. Madden would not provide specifics. However, a Romney source said the change in traffic is "temporary."

Last week, Romney bought commercial time to thank Iowans who gave him his Ames straw poll victory on Aug. 11.

It's not unusual a campaign to pare down its advertising in the dog days of August. Romney's campaign had acknowledged that they would probably try to save a bit of money between the Ames straw poll on August 11th and Labor Day.

Romney's early advertising in Iowa and New Hampshire, his numerous visits to the states, and the mixed fortunes of his rivals are credited with his strong standing in early state polls. To date, the campaign has spent more than $6M on television and radio ads. Romney's ads have aired on cable in other early states, like South Carolina and Florida.

I think that its a good move to wait to spend more money on television ads.

That Romney's a smart one.

"Romney's early advertising in Iowa and New Hampshire, his numerous visits to the states, and the mixed fortunes of his rivals are credited with his strong standing in early state polls." Funny, the only thing never credited for Romney's lead in these various polls is himself.

Does any of these journalists ever consider the possibility that Romney leads in these states because people genuinely like him and the message he brings?

I love it!!! An article without Ron Paul crap...GO ROMNEY!

Romney is running the most organized and professional campaign in either party. It is no wonder that he won the Ames straw poll, and it is no wonder that he is steadily climbing in the polls while everyone else is falling....seriously, look at the polls.

It is obvious that his experience with successful management in the private sector is playing a huge role in the management of his campaign. Romney is showing what type of leader he is by his methodical approach, and his management is beating the management of every other candidate.

It will be nice to have a competent leader in the White House to fix all the problems that have surfaced in the last 16 years of presidential abuse of power.

Go Romney!!!

Romney is pro-abortion!

Don't Be Fooled

It appears that you have fallen victim to your own moniker. Romney has never been "Pro-Abortion" and he has never signed a "Pro-Abortion" bill--even when he was politically Pro-Choice.

By the way, there is a difference between pro-choice and pro-abortion.

While personally and religiously opposed to abortion, he took a federalist stance towards the issue when running for office in Massachusetts. After realizing the effect a pro-choice mentality has had on the value of life--especially in the scientific community, Romney realized that this political approach to abortion was flawed and from that point, he's reconciled his political approach to his personal approach.

But then again, you probably didn't need me to type an essay to clarify that point. You likely already knew this, but prefer to throw fire-bombs at a candidate other than your own.

Don't Be Fooled is fooled!

Romney needs to buy all he can before he runs out of cash. He's spent quite a bit already, especially in Iowa. If you subtract his campaign debt, Ron Paul has more money. Hmmmm...can't manage his own campaign finances. How will he manage the country? The same way Bush did.

Fortunately, without spending any money, Paul came in 5th...not too bad of a showing.

SC Conservative,

You are deceived if you think Romney isn't another "Give them a phrase they want to hear" Flip Flopper. Don't believe me? Look at his debate in 1994 on more than just the abortion issue. As Kennedy said, "I'm pro choice but my opponent is multiple choice." And of course, Romney said, among other things, that he didn't want to bring back the Reagan days. Conservative? I don't think so. If you call yourself a conservative and support Romney, you ought to check on that definition to see if you still fit.
