Campaign officials estimate that around 14,000 Iowans cast straw ballots today. That's about sixty percent of the 23,500 who voted in 1999. So, turnout is clearly low. But that's not surprising, given that three major candidates refused to attend.
That year, Texas Gov. George W. Bush received about 31% of the votes cast.
Right now, Romney tops the polls in Iowa with anywhere from 26% to 30%, depending on the polls.
The 14,000 is a solid guestimate...the actual number may be a bit higher or a bit lower.


All sorts of interesting things going on. They doubled the tickets sold at the last minute so that Romney (who gives free tickets to supporters) would have an advantage. Then someone may have poisoned Ron Paul's wife. I saw her less than 2 weeks ago and she was the picture of health.
