AMES: A Partial Recount Confirmed

11 Aug 2007 08:52 pm

AMES -- Mary Tiffany, an Iowa Republican Party official, confirms that at least one voting machine malfunctioned and that tabulators recounted at least 1500 ballots.

The state party rented optical scan machines from Diebold, a company at the center of several recent voting controversies. Recently, the state of California decertified Diebold machines for the 2008 election.

Yesterday, Iowans who support Ron Paul failed to get a judge to require a voter-verified paper ballot be used in today's straw poll. Separately, the state party told the Paul campaign that a full paper recount would cost $184,000.

Already, some Paul supporters are whispering about a challenge.

Thanks for keeping us up to date !

Hopefully this will end soon (and well).

Ron Paul ! (lol)

Paul, and everyone else that doesn't carry the surname "Romney," I'd imagine.

You think these problems are coincidences? NO! THE CANDIDATES ARE REPTILIAN HUMANOIDS!

What fool would trust a candidate-ROMNEY who tried to buy their vote? But that failed and now ROMNEY NEEDS TO STEAL THE VOTES!

Doesn't Romney look kind of reptile-like? Be honest.

Gee, didn't see that coming. Ron Paul is for real -- he's the only candidate in the modern era that people are passionate about. The reasons for that are:

1. He's principled
2. He has the right principles
3. He's honest
4. He follows through
5. He is the only candidate running in order to advance liberty and justice -- the rest are running to advance themselves

A person like Dr. Ron Paul will always inspire others. Always.

Too early to really care who wins. Hysterical that the Ron Paul cult members are whining as usual. Really nutty guy.

I'm with Joe on this one. I think it definitely has something to do with "The Visitors!"

Romney looks like a queer to me.

What the heck-hold an election, even if it is a sreaw oll, and the numbers do not come to what the Eastern Establishment wants-so what do they do?
Hold up the straw poll results until goodness know when? What is going on-the little sheep are not listening to their masters-they want a real election with real choices.

Romney is not the villain here. He is just a flip flopper who may be helped by the REAL villain, Diebold.

What will it take for Americans to stand up, Repubs and Dems, and say that we will not put up with these proprietary voting machines any longer? Can't we all agree that EVERY SINGLE VOTE should be counted accurately and checked in triplicate? What possible reason is there for not having a system in which votes are tabulated 2-3 different ways to confirm a correct count?

Stop bashing Romney because you think he's gay or looks reptilian. His record is enough to sink him. Let's not get into Clintonian areas.

Corey: Really nutty guy.

Re: your comment on Ron Paul, one example to back up this statement, please? Just one.

Did anyone else say "WTF" that it would cost $184,000 for a full paper recount (of 14,000 ballots?)

Ten people could do that in 15 minutes...

Ron Paul is the only GOP candidate that is worth supporting.

Any Catholic who would vote for any of the rest, especially that no account Romney is flying in the face of 2,000 years of Christian tradition AND the Pope and Bishops!

For those that care!

This kind of fraud makes me ashamed to be an Iowan. There is something fishy going on here. I believe that Ron Paul had a HUGE landslide & TPTB couldn't stand it!

When one calls someone who advocates for the Constitution "nutty", they clearly demonstrate just WHO the nut is.

I'll do it for a dollar per ballot!

A challenge to a STRAW POLL's results! Give it a rest, this is exactly what Americans are sick and tired of, this constant challenging of your opponents. Just accept the results and get on with the campaign. Unless the results are just too unbelievable to be true, liek Ron Paul actually wins, then there is no reason for a hand recount.

Well, if we're talking about government employees $184,000 seems about right for 15 minutes of work.

Using Osama Bin Laden to back up your claims; that's nutty. Saying that the reason we're attacked is because U.S. troops (who are there at the request of the Saudi government) are on "Muslim Holy Land"; crazy. Saying we should withdraw from everywhere in the world and huddle here at home and wait to get hit again; stark-raving mad. Need I go on?

Hey, Fred H! Why are you so worried that Mitt looks gay? Why are you so obsessed with someone who, when pressed, would most assuredly never give you the time of day, let alone anything of a more intimate nature?

How would it cost $184,000 to count 14,000 paper votes? Does it really cost $13 per vote?

At least we can all agree Romney looks, talks, and acts like a HOMO.

10 people in 15 minutes? I'm guessing you can count a ballot and make a mark on paper an average of once every 5 seconds. That is 12 ballots per person per minute. That is 120 ballots per minutes for 10 people. That is 1,800 in 15 minutes total. So, it would take them a few hours actually!

Gag. It's a Diebold plot now eh? I think the Ronpaulists are bucking for the world record on most number of conspiracy theories ever rolled into one campaign. That record will stand for centuries at this rate.

I admit that I like Ron Paul on some issues, but I don't see enough of him that I could cast a ballot for. I'm not happy with any of the candidates (except maybe Duncan Hunter), but putting up a guy who says it's our fault the terrorists have and are attacking us is a no win with the American people.

The insane Ron Paul Libertarian Cult is going crazy over the delay, spinning their conspiracy theories already. Incredible. Scratch that, it was expected.

Freedom to Fascism lays out the case against the Dieblod machines much better than anyone here could. Ron Paul and the Constitution in '08!

You're right Corey. Saying that having our military in the wholly land of a bunch of people who are, to say the least, zealous about their faith (and willing to use violence to spread it) may have caused them to get ticked off at us is crazy!

And, yeah, doing what guys like George Washington and Dwight D. Eisenhow suggested and not occupying other nations or policing the world is loony! Why would we do what two of our nations greatest leaders (on the battle field and in the White House) suggested? Absolutely bonkers!

Hey, if China had troops in America and we didn't want them there and we attacked China, wouldn't you say that them being over here just might, might might be a reason for that attack on China happening? It's called logic: use it.

Frank,

He doesn't look particularly gay to me, and I should know, as I am "one of those" myself. As far as acting gay...I don't think he has had enough time to act gay, given how busily he has been impregnating his wife.

One track minds give one pause, you know...

Math:

Um, if you had 15,000 ballots (that's on the high end) 120 ballots per minute with 10 people counting, would be 125 minutes, or an hour, 25 minutes. Are you paying them over ten thousand an hour?

The Black Helicopter Crowd is on the warpath. Apparently the Paul campaign got the memo out. Your leader would be proud guys.

Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate who can win the general election.

That is a fact.

Anybody that doesn't think this stinks on a certain level don't know how to smell.

This is weird. And why the hell is Diebold involved again. Who hired these guys?

Does it really cost $13 per vote?

I think that's how much Romney was paying for them in the first place.

Corey: Using Osama Bin Laden to back up your claims; that's nutty.

Specific quote, please.

Saying that the reason we're attacked is because U.S. troops... are on "Muslim Holy Land"; crazy.

Pretty much one of the big reasons we were attacked. Nothing crazy there.

Saying we should withdraw from everywhere in the world and huddle here at home and wait to get hit again; stark-raving mad.

Part one of the statement -- withdrawing our troops -- is fine. "Huddle here at home" is just your added hyperbole. Guess what? If we withdraw our troops, we aren't going to get hit again.

But you still haven't come up with any real examples, just out of context concepts and your own opinion.

Oh, wait. 2 hours, 5 minutes.

Corey,

Please stop. You're embarrassing yourself. That the Saudi government requested American troops is no argument against Paul's assertion that those troops are, in part, the reason we were attacked on 9/11. Islamic fundamentalists hate the Saudi government.

Withdrawing from Islamic parts of the world is a reasonable alternative to invading every non-friendly Islamic country. The argument is that if we retreat from Islamic territory, we will have eliminated the raison d'etre for Islamic terrorist attacks against this country. Oh wait, I forgot, they hate us because we're "free."

Rick: Corey,

Please stop. You're embarrassing yourself.

Aw, he's just a trollbot, doing what the RNC is paying him to do.

Corey... You need to educate yourself on American foreign policy. Do you even know that under Carter, we pushed this Islamist terrorist movement in order to destabilize all those Soviet Muslim states - all the "-stans". That movement that we fostered now attacks us. It's called "blowback", it's real - and you're really ignorant.

I guess your point isn't logical if you consider Europe and Japan post-WWII. Doing the right thing is difficult. If it wasn't the world would be a better place. If you're content to hide in your house until the terrorists come for you, be my guest. I don't want anymore 9/11's and hiding here won't stop that. The crazies won't stop until you stop them. They've already proven they're willing to die (in fact, chomping at the bit to do so) for their perversion of Islam.

Ok, people, give it a rest. This is a simple malfunction of a machine. Recounts will occur, and the results will not be compromised in any way. Now for all those who are bashing Romney, let me just say that small minds seem to hate those who are successful. So get over it. Mitt will win the straw poll, the caucuses, the nomination, and the presidency. He has real executive experience unlike Paul, or any of the contenders except perhaps Guiliani. He will be the most effective president in a generation. And give the flip-flop stuff a rest. Those who are truely infomed, will know that he changed position on one issue, namely abortion. The rest is a "gotch" that was manufactured by the DNC, because they rightfully see Romney as the only republican who is smart enough and well funded enough, and has enough natural appeal to knock off Hillary/Obama in '08. So again, give it all a rest, people...

Ron Paul rEVOLution !!

Ron Paul got an $8 million earmark for promoting wild shrimp down in Texas. Doesn't sound all that pure to me.Sounds like Frank has a man crush on Mitt and he's the real fag in the room. Just open the closet door Frank.

Corey,

I'd call dumping the income tax in exchange for "waiting in my house 'til the terrorist come to get me" a damn fine trade. Let's do it.

Bah, anybody who's afraid of Saddam Hussein or the Evil Iranians is a bedwetter.

Paul

Pat Gray clip, YouTube, Ron Paul interview. He specifically says that Osama bin Laden says that our troops being on "Muslim Holy Land" is the reason we were hit on 9/11. Check it out. Wouldn't want the facts to get in the way of the agenda.

Thinking that withdrawing from the world will stop those who hate you from trying to destroy you is exactly the kind of childish reasoning that led to the Pearl Harbor bombing. Israel has been ceding land to the Palestinians for years now, how's that working out for them? Hamas gets elected by the Palestinians. Good plan. Let's just sit and wait for evil to rear its head here. Maybe next time it'll be tens or hundreds of thousands of dead. What then?

Corey,

We will never be able to kill them all. For every 1 we kill, 10 more will be created. I consider the threat as serious as you do, which is why I support Ron Paul. Step one is to close the borders to further Muslim immigration. Step two is to pull back from Muslim countries thereby eliminating their stated justification for launching terrorist attacks inside America.

Corey -

You must really hate Bush, then. He has left the door open for any terrorist who wants to come here and kill us either through the "student visa" program or just illegal immigration across our borders. Why does he prosecute Border Patrol agents and let illegals go free???? Hoping for that next Reischtag-style attack so he can clamp down on civil liberties, I'm sure.

Japan and Germany were different CULTURALLY and racially than these Middle Eastern countries - so long as you guys have your heads in the sand about the most basic building blocks of human and societal behavior you will make enormous mistakes....like invading Iraq, for example, and destabalizing the whole region...

It's really sad that there are so many uninformed people in here. Its easy to pick and choose what you're willing to use in your argument, but poor debating to resort to personal attacks when you're beaten. No one takes a conspiracy theorist seriously. Americans don't like to be told that we should run and hide. If you're willing to pander to throat-cutters, go for it.

As far as the RNC slap. I'm not a Republican. I'm a conservative (not paleo, neo). I don't think we can just hide in our shell and let the world go to hell around us. You have to admit we have some responsibility in the world. Would you say it was a mistake for us to take down the Nazis? Maybe we should surrender to Iran. What say you?

Well, it's been fun. Can't say I care who wins the straw poll, but apparently some of you are already married to your "guy". Good night.

P.S. - You need more than one source for your information. Do a little critical thinking rather than blind allegiance.

Corey,

What are you talking about? You're comparing the Islamic terrorist threat with... Japanese imperialism? Goodness. The cause of Pearl Harbor can be summed up, generally, as a combination of Japanese imperialistic designs and American arrogance and condescension toward Japan for several decades. Are you saying you would have favored a preemptive strike on Japan before the surprise Pearl Harbor attack? I think you're confused.

By the way, G.W. Bush and the rest of the clones running in the GOP primary support democracy in the Middle East. The result: Hamas in Gaza. Please, make up your mind about what you want.

Because I can't imagine you're older than 21 or so, I suggest you enlist and fight the fight you believe in if you truly believe that "hiding here" is bad for this country. I once supported the Iraq war and was a similar G.W. Bush cheerleader. Since then, I've decided I won't support a war I wouldn't be willing to fight in or send my children to fight in.

Surrender to Iran? I didn't realize we were at war with the Iranians? I was on vacation this past week, however; did Dubya launch another brilliant preemptive strike?

One last one. I agree. I "hate" Bush. He's a traitor. Check out www.spp.gov. No N.A. Union!!! Impeachment is legit, but not for the reasons the looney Left wants him impeached. I don't think we're all that different, just on a few points. Paul can't win. People will look at the issues I've just brought up and say "That's not the guy for me". He's no Reagan.

all should see "Hacking the Vote"

Recount for $128,000 ?

No, they were just using Republican math.

It should've been $128.00, but they are all criminals, so they just multipled by 1000.

If Ron Paul wants to be a member of that 'party', then he should learn who he's dealing with. You don't think Romney made $250 million dollars because he's smart, do you?

Diebold -- your vote is safe like money in OUR bank account.

Mitt Romney continues to steam roll his competition. Iowa is a precursor of more things to come. Mitt hands down has what it takes to be President. Read my list!

1. Senators and Mayors do not become president! Mitt was a Governor.

2. Mitt not was only a governor, but a governor of a blue State that almost always votes Democratic. They voted for Mitt becuase the state was in such a mess financially they knew he could bail them out with his buisness experience. So Mitt has major crossover appeal like Ronald Reagan.

3. Mitt won the Governorship in Massachusetts by besting a female candidate who was a life long politician Shannon Obrien. So Mitt not only had crossover appeal, the female population voted for him! That is very important in a campaign against Hillary Clinton!

4. Mitt is a underdog in some respects becuase of the Main Stream Media attacking and questioning his faith. That actually helped John Kennedy get elected. People in America are not stupid and will not be fooled by dishonest bigoted people. We Americans believe in the Constitution of Unites States and affirm that there shall be no litmus test for religion and the presidency. The people of Iowa just affirmed that even over the smear tactics employed by Senator Brownback who has lost every bit of respect from this American!

5. Mitt is a caring family man with great intelect, honesty, compassion and is god fearing!

Great Job Mitt! See you in New Hampshire!
John S. Maine

The diebold macines are a scam!

Wake up America- It doesn't matter what anyones says at all if your vote really "IN REALITY" counts for nothing.....

You must be high to trust a computer to tally votes!?!?!?!

You think the powers that be wouldn't do that to us- Baffoons!

There is a NASA egineer on the net testifing that he helped fix the election for Bush- He wrote the frigging Code!!!

Wake up America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The world laughs at how brainwashed we are! WAKE UP!!!!!!

Tyranny has allways been Freedom is very rare!

It's time for the Ron Paul Revolution!!!!

"Gee, didn't see that coming. Ron Paul is for real -- he's the only candidate in the modern era that people are passionate about. The reasons for that are:

1. He's principled
2. He has the right principles
3. He's honest

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!

And yet another sucker swallowed ron paul's BULL SH*T hook, line, and sinker.

ron paul supports pedophiles by being dead set against the AMBER law.

ron paul wants us to return to the "gold standard" becasue he owns millions worth of stocks in companies that either own gold mines, process gold, or trade it.

ron paul with his "Letters of Marque" is in other words saying that he's a supporter of state sponsored piracy.

He sponsored a bill that would have set term limits for congress. Well now that he's in his TENTH TERM he must have forgot about his "principals".

And how is he doing his duty as a Representative, when he's spending more time on the campaign trail than doing the job the people of his district elected him to do?

IF and that is a big IF he was a man of "principal", he would have resigned from congress before seeking higher office.

Corey (who represents all the morons who clap every time some idiot politician says "they hate us for our freedom") -

In case you don't know, the U.S. MADE Osama...the U.S. SUPPORTED Saddam...the U.S. created Iranian hatred by installing a leader there...the list of awful U.S. Policy is endless. Put down your flag and get a brain for a minute.

Osama is a Saudi. We support an awful dictatorship there. We support them in EVERY WAY. The Bushes are even in bed with the Saudis! If the U.S. stayed out of their business they'd throw out those bastards. The Sept 11 hijackers were mostly SAUDI. All terrorists are mostly Saudi. Get a clue. They attack us because we're helping REPRESS THEM. When is this country going to grow up and face reality?

CAVTrooper said

And yet another sucker swallowed ron paul's BULL SH*T hook, line, and sinker. ron paul supports pedophiles by being dead set against the AMBER law.

CAVTrooper is the swallower here:
He/She is clearly reading and believing the anti-Ron Paul neocon 'summaries'.

There are comments Ron Paul made on the Congressional Record about his views on the national Amber law.

http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getpage.cgi?dbname=2003_record&page=E529&position=all

As a summary for CAVTrooper, Paul thinks State/Local Amber alert systems are good, but that NATIONALIZING the laws into a 'one size fits all' beast will make it less effective and not authorized by the US Constitution (remember that old thing?).

Paul votes against many bills that may seem like a good idea in general but which are OUTSIDE THE SCOPE of the Federal government as defined by the Constitution and the 10th amendment. (CAVTrooper summary: All powers not enumerated here are reserved for the people or the States.)

Reading Corey, I'll assume he's a one issue man. Will the next President support Israel monetarily and financially? If no, then the candidate must go.

To the poster above:

Ron Paul is a lot of things, but "honest" is not one of them.

He ran here in our District in 1996 as a "South Texan, Red, White and Blue, George W. Bush Conservative Republican." He was 100% Pro-Military. He was Pro-Veteran.

The District responded and elected him to representive.

Than a few years later, the liberal media turns on the War on Terror, and Paul finds it convenient to get some attention for his far-out agenda of the Gold Standard, Abolish the Fed, ect... So, he turns vehemently anti-Bush and anti-War.

It works. The media eats it up, hook, line and sinker. And they completely ignore his questionable past. They just report on this "Republican who is sticking it to Bush," with glee.

No, Ron Paul is an opportunist. He's not terribly honest, especially to the voters of Congressional District 14 here in South Texas.

Eric Dondero, Fmr. Senior Aide
US Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX)
1997-2003

Eric, you are a Zionist, no? Ron Paul has a searchable voting record of over 30 years. The best the Zionist media and supporters have been able to come up with was a rider Paul pushed for $8 million to Texas shrimp.

No sale, friend. We saw what happened after your supporters brought us Lyndon B. Johnson. The USS Liberty, Remembered !

America is not the place I grew up anymore. Total corruption! How convenient for them to require the Ron Paul people to pay for a recount!

It makes my stomach turn…listen to the crowd cheers!

The winner is obvious…Dibold!

huckabee doesn't believe in evolution...

do we really need another idiot as president?

ron paul is the only conservative...

Eric D.,

Ron Paul spoke out against the war before it began. Actualy Clinton and the Democrats called for regime change in Iraq in 1998 and Bush later carried it out. In case you would like to learn some history of Ron Paul's stance on the war watch the excellent 2002 interview prior to the invasion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OenXhQvgYwo

Actually Dr. Paul is not the only one speaking against wars and US meddling in other countries that are causing destruction and blood baths in these countries. Those who have doubts should read: Imperial Hubris (by anonymous), Lies and and the Lying Liars (by Al Franken), Worse that Watergate (by John Dean), and many other books written by concerned American writers.

Never ever trust a guy with two 1st names!
NEVER NEVER NEVER!

As American citizens play around with politics as usuall, the country goes down. Sorry, but none of the candidates, other than Congressmans, Paul and Tancredo, are going to address illegal immigration, language, borders, or culture. When an empty suit or skirt is elected in 2008 and it's too late, then Americans will see reality.

Corey:
You really should educate on yourself on bin Laden's demands. Ron Paul assessment is correct. Read bin Laden's fatwah...
Scared sheep like you are the problem. The US will be hit again, whether or not we stay in Iraq. Bu$h Co is doing EXACTLY what bin Laden wants. The invasion of Iraq was a major boost for the extremists recruiting. Scared ignorant sheep like you want to kill everyone and let God sort them out. Republicon "values".
The republicons are the party of taxes (on credit for future generations to pay) AND fiscal irresponsibility. Ron Paul's ideas will give more freedom to the corporate elite.
Fascism will come to America warped in the flag and carrying the bible...

CAVtrooper: Let's see your logic.

1. How many times has the Amber Alert law actually caught a pedophile who had abducted a child versus the amounts of alerts issued? Please cite stats and source. One of the arguments for the jury system is that we can't wrongly punish the innocent just to get at the guilty. Just because they are accused pedophiles means that we just toss out the constitution and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in your opinion? Are you in favour of a police state with Soviet or Fascist style law enforcement?
2. As far as the "gold standard" for currency, do you understand basic economics as far as what valuates your money in a floating standard other than the "full faith and credit of the US"? Please explain what happens to your money value every time we borrow more money via T-Bills and other debt instruments. Please explain what happens every time a bank is allowed a reduced cash reserve on hand for the amount of money they lend and how that adversely affects the real buying value of money? How has the value of one US dollar been affected since Nixon took us off the "gold standard" and has it appreciated versus other world currency during that time? What will happen to the value of the US dollar & inflation if the Chinese Yuan is allowed to fluctuate more than a couple percentage points considering they are our biggest supplier of consumer goods and our biggest debt holder?
3. Please note how many other politicos in the field have resigned from office because they were running for president.

FascistHater: You forget that both parties are responsible for our dive into Fascism. 8 years of Democratic control of the office of Presidency nor control of Congress from teh late 1930's until the early 90's helped stem this slide. So while you may bash Republicans rightfully so, the Democrats have not been without their role in speeding the plow. How did they do this year in defeating the latest domestic spying bill? How have they been doing in helping the people stem the power of the all encroaching HSA as well as really controlling immigration instead of repeating the 1980's amnesty gaffe?

Whoever wins this Republican nomination? Will be buried by the winner of the Democrats. (I loathe both parties.) American voters have had it up to their necks with the constant lies from the "warmonger" party of the Republicans. And the gasoline prices are enough to make anyone puke, that struggles week to week to pay the bills. So you Republicans out there? Dream on...You'll be remembered as the turd that finally got plunged down the toilet.

To the previous poster,
Did you read the messages on this page? There's a Republican candidate, Ron Paul who has been against the undeclared, illegal war before it began. He was against it when Clinton and the Democrats called for regime change in Iraq in 1998. See the video in my previous post above.
