AMES: A Partial Recount Confirmed

AMES -- Mary Tiffany, an Iowa Republican Party official, confirms that at least one voting machine malfunctioned and that tabulators recounted at least 1500 ballots.

The state party rented optical scan machines from Diebold, a company at the center of several recent voting controversies. Recently, the state of California decertified Diebold machines for the 2008 election.

Yesterday, Iowans who support Ron Paul failed to get a judge to require a voter-verified paper ballot be used in today's straw poll. Separately, the state party told the Paul campaign that a full paper recount would cost $184,000.

Already, some Paul supporters are whispering about a challenge.

A challenge to a STRAW POLL's results! Give it a rest, this is exactly what Americans are sick and tired of, this constant challenging of your opponents. Just accept the results and get on with the campaign. Unless the results are just too unbelievable to be true, liek Ron Paul actually wins, then there is no reason for a hand recount.

10 people in 15 minutes? I'm guessing you can count a ballot and make a mark on paper an average of once every 5 seconds. That is 12 ballots per person per minute. That is 120 ballots per minutes for 10 people. That is 1,800 in 15 minutes total. So, it would take them a few hours actually!

I admit that I like Ron Paul on some issues, but I don't see enough of him that I could cast a ballot for. I'm not happy with any of the candidates (except maybe Duncan Hunter), but putting up a guy who says it's our fault the terrorists have and are attacking us is a no win with the American people.

Withdrawing from Islamic parts of the world is a reasonable alternative to invading every non-friendly Islamic country. The argument is that if we retreat from Islamic territory, we will have eliminated the raison d'etre for Islamic terrorist attacks against this country. Now for all those who are bashing Romney, let me just say that small minds seem to hate those who are successful. So get over it. Mitt will win the straw poll, the caucuses, the nomination, and the presidency. He has real executive experience unlike Paul, or any of the contenders except perhaps Guiliani. He will be the most effective president in a generation. And give the flip-flop stuff a rest. Those who are truely infomed, will know that he changed position on one issue, namely abortion. Mitt Romney continues to steam roll his competition. Iowa is a precursor of more things to come. Mitt hands down has what it takes to be President. Read my list!

1. Senators and Mayors do not become president! Mitt was a Governor.

4. Mitt is a underdog in some respects becuase of the Main Stream Media attacking and questioning his faith. That actually helped John Kennedy get elected. People in America are not stupid and will not be fooled by dishonest bigoted people. We Americans believe in the Constitution of Unites States and affirm that there shall be no litmus test for religion and the presidency. Ron Paul is a lot of things, but "honest" is not one of them.

He ran here in our District in 1996 as a "South Texan, Red, White and Blue, George W. Bush Conservative Republican." He was 100% Pro-Military. He was Pro-Veteran.

The District responded and elected him to representive.

Than a few years later, the liberal media turns on the War on Terror, and Paul finds it convenient to get some attention for his far-out agenda of the Gold Standard, Abolish the Fed, ect... So, he turns vehemently anti-Bush and anti-War.

It works. The media eats it up, hook, line and sinker. And they completely ignore his questionable past. They just report on this "Republican who is sticking it to Bush," with glee.

CAVtrooper: Let's see your logic.

1. How many times has the Amber Alert law actually caught a pedophile who had abducted a child versus the amounts of alerts issued? Please cite stats and source. One of the arguments for the jury system is that we can't wrongly punish the innocent just to get at the guilty. Just because they are accused pedophiles means that we just toss out the constitution and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in your opinion? Are you in favour of a police state with Soviet or Fascist style law enforcement?
2. As far as the "gold standard" for currency, do you understand basic economics as far as what valuates your money in a floating standard other than the "full faith and credit of the US"? Please explain what happens to your money value every time we borrow more money via T-Bills and other debt instruments. Please explain what happens every time a bank is allowed a reduced cash reserve on hand for the amount of money they lend and how that adversely affects the real buying value of money? How has the value of one US dollar been affected since Nixon took us off the "gold standard" and has it appreciated versus other world currency during that time? What will happen to the value of the US dollar & inflation if the Chinese Yuan is allowed to fluctuate more than a couple percentage points considering they are our biggest supplier of consumer goods and our biggest debt holder?
3. Please note how many other politicos in the field have resigned from office because they were running for president.

FascistHater: You forget that both parties are responsible for our dive into Fascism. 8 years of Democratic control of the office of Presidency nor control of Congress from teh late 1930's until the early 90's helped stem this slide. So while you may bash Republicans rightfully so, the Democrats have not been without their role in speeding the plow. How did they do this year in defeating the latest domestic spying bill? How have they been doing in helping the people stem the power of the all encroaching HSA as well as really controlling immigration instead of repeating the 1980's amnesty gaffe?

Whoever wins this Republican nomination? Will be buried by the winner of the Democrats. (I loathe both parties.) American voters have had it up to their necks with the constant lies from the "warmonger" party of the Republicans. And the gasoline prices are enough to make anyone puke, that struggles week to week to pay the bills. So you Republicans out there? Dream on...You'll be remembered as the turd that finally got plunged down the toilet.

Did you read the messages on this page? There's a Republican candidate, Ron Paul who has been against the undeclared, illegal war before it began. He was against it when Clinton and the Democrats called for regime change in Iraq in 1998. See the video in my previous post above.
