Michelle Obama's "Swipe"?

21 Aug 2007 11:22 am

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

At another stop, in Atlantic, Michelle said she travels with her husband in part "to model what it means to have family values," adding "if you can't run your own house, you can't run the White House." She didn't elaborate, but it could be interpreted as a swipe at the Clintons.

Michelle Obama was probably referring to the hard choices she and Sen. Obama have had to make about their work/family balance -- that's a recurring theme of her stump speech.

But Matt Drudge has other designs, and you can bet that the cable news networks will follow.

The vicious cycle:

1) The media wants politicians to be more open and to speak without filters.

2) The politicians speak more freely, more from the heart.

3) The media pathetically distorts (invents? fabricates?) what the politician says, abdicating all journalistic responsibility.

4) The politician is forced to be quiet again, for fear that the most innocuous statement will be misinterpreted.

5) The media complains.

Pathetic...

Classy, eh?

ICK!

Drudge can't read.

For Drudge and JoeCHI:

That one of the most important things that we need to know about the next President of the United States is, is he somebody that shares our values? Is he somebody that respects family? Is a good and decent person? So our view was that, if you can’t run your own house, you certainly can'’t run the White House. So, so we’'ve adjusted our schedules to make sure that our girls are first, so while he’s traveling around, I do day trips. That means I get up in the morning, I get the girls ready, I get them off, I go and do trips, I’'m home before bedtime. So the girls know that I was gone somewhere, but they don’t care. They just know that I was at home to tuck them in at night, and it keeps them grounded, and, and children, the children in our country have to know that they come first. And our girls do and that’s why we’re doing this. We’re in this race for not just our children, but all of our children.

Is Michelle Obama the new Elizabeth Edwards?

I can see how Michelle may not have been thinking about the infidelities of Bill and still have made this comment. But it's a line that hits a bullseye on how many people see the Clinton relationship.

The idea that Bill would be back in the White House ordering pizzas and getting lap dances from interns right out of high school does rub some people the wrong way.

Not that it matters a great deal, but Monica Lewinsky was a college grad. I doubt there are a lot of just-out-of-high-school grads working as White House interns.

THS-

Correction noted. Scratch the pizzas and recent HS grads. Replace with cigars and young women.

Thanks

Is the establishment so afraid of the change that Obama represents that they are going to these lengths to mis-represent his campaign. For all that is holy, real substantive news was made by his campaign today. I think the pundits and reporters might better earn their paychecks if they discussed his ideas about lifting travel restrictions to Cuba or his speech to the VFW. This is shameful.

Are you kidding? Korha has the right quote. She was talking about the next president and the values we want in the next president when she said that.

"That one of the most important things that we need to know about the next President of the United States is, is he somebody that shares our values? Is he somebody that respects family? Is a good and decent person? So our view was that, if you can’t run your own house, you certainly can't run the White House."

Read it in the context and it's clearly an attack on Hillary. Coming from a 43 year old lawyer who is also a woman... What's next, is she going to talk about Rice not being married?!

No, what we don't need in the white house is a couple that clearly don't respect women.

I've just been letting everything pass me by lately. I haven't gotten anything done today. Pfft.

My life's been basically bland recently. I can't be bothered with anything recently. Pretty much nothing seems important. I've basically been doing nothing worth mentioning.

My life's been pretty dull these days. Not much on my mind recently. My mind is like a fog, but shrug. I haven't been up to anything today, but oh well. I haven't gotten much done lately.

I've just been letting everything happen without me these days. I've pretty much been doing nothing , but oh well. More or less nothing notable going on to speak of. I just don't have anything to say these days, but maybe tomorrow.
