Sen. Larry Craig's "Lewd" Conduct In A Men's Bathroom

CRAIG ARRESTED, PLEADS GUILTY FOLLOWING INCIDENT IN AIRPORT RESTROOM Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested in June at a Minnesota airport by a plainclothes police officer investigating lewd conduct complaints in a men's public restroom, according to an arrest report obtained by Roll Call Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for Craig described the incident as a “he said/he said misunderstanding,” and said the office would release a fuller statement later Monday afternoon.

After he was arrested, Craig, who is married, was taken to the Airport Police Operations Center to be interviewed about the lewd conduct incident, according to the police report. At one point during the interview, Craig handed the plainclothes sergeant who arrested him a business card that identified him as a U.S. Senator and said, “What do you think about that?” the report states.

Craig stated “that he has a wide stance when going to the bathroom and that his foot may have touched mine,” the report states. Craig also told the arresting officer that he reached down with his right hand to pick up a piece of paper that was on the floor.

“It should be noted that there was not a piece of paper on the bathroom floor, nor did Craig pick up a piece of paper,” the arresting officer said in the report.

Mr. Craig is up for re-election this year. Gov. Butch Otter (R) would appoint a replacement if, for some reason, Craig steps down.

Needless to say, there will be a lot more to this story. Craig has been a target of the Dem activist who outed several gay Republicans, Mike Rogers.

So, we have one senator, Craig, who is hunting other men for sex at a public loo, we have one other senator, Vitter, who is having paid sex and both of them are married and call themselves Christian Conservatives and Family Values Guys. Nearly every day, the faux-labeled tough-on-crime (except their own) GOP sets new standards for immorality, hubris, sanctimony, and sleaze. If he'd been nabbed in his own state he probably would have been able to quash any word of this. Minnesota owes him nothing, and that fine state will continue, it's hoped, to press on without regard for the office he so disgustingly occupies and denigrates. This sadly shames Idaho, his supporters, and the Senate who unknowingly (maybe) assumed he was a decent human being, even if his ideology completely overshadowed any acknowledgement of obvious facts. And the right-wing hop-heads can't understand why they're not in the majority. Ugh.

Larry Craig's spokersperson is right. The honorable senator Craig was in the restroom to offer the prayers since it was prayer time. It was misunderstanding by the officer that he thought that it was a lewd conduct. Lets demand the resignation of the officer.

My wife and I lived in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for nearly fifteen years. Better than half of that period we both had our suspicions about Craig, as did many others. But he sure seemed to be careful about his preferences. Apparently the non-existent piece of paper on the floor was what gave 'em away? The poor fella.

The saddest part of all this is the only times regular Americans hear of gay politicians it is in disgusting circumstances such as those.
If there were more openly gay politicians on both sides of the aisle they would see gays are not all bathroom cruisers boy bangers. Most of us are very respectable citizens who have the same love/sex life as the rest of America. Unfortunately, by staying closeted therefore making those scandalous politicians the only image America has of homosexuals, they are perpetuating the horrible cycle of prejudice.
All the most prominent members of Congress and politicians that are out on a national level (governors included) have been outed by scandal. We are still waiting for the normal and outstanding politicians who happen to be gay to get a set of balls and come out. they may lose the next election but they'd move the ball for the rest of us over the long term.

And, no, Larry Craig is not a "Mormon"/member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints. A member of the Church may also be excommunicated for having sex outside the bonds of marriage--marriage being between one man and one woman.
