Edwards Will Accept Public Financing For His Campaign

27 Sep 2007 04:42 pm

Surprising his rivals, Ex-Sen. John Edwards today said his presidential campaign will accept federal matching funds and the corresponding spending limitations that come with them.

Edwards had previously planned to opt out of the system, which would have allowed him to raise and spend freely after he secured the Democratic nomination ... if he secured the Democratic nomination.

The decision suggests that Edwards's fundraising did not meet the campaign's expectations, which provided for a $45M budget through the primary season.

No no no please no!!!
If Edwards is our nominee, Democrats will lose in a landslide. The GOP will spend mightily with JE having a huge disadvantage with his hand tied behind his back. Ugh!

So this allows edwards bascially to say in race correct?

The GOP will have nothing to SPEND. Don't you see that?

For crying out loud. All of their committees are being absolutely crushed by the Dem committees. There is no enthusiasm on their side.

UNLESS! you nominate Hillary. THEN they get their enthusiasm back.

That's it, this is the stake in the heart of the Edwards campaign.

Nobody's going to want to support a candidate who can't raise enough money to be competitive in his own party's primaries.

Can't say I didn't see something like this coming, though, Edwards' fundraising started out anemic and has been going downhill since the 1st quarter.

Good riddance, he's got too much baggage, low hanging fruit that would have allowed the Republicans to turn him into a caricature of a vain girly man whose wife has to fight his battles for him, and a hypocrite who wants us to forget everything about his political life before 2006 when he had his epiphany on the war.
