GOP Fundraising Outlook Part II: Romney's Final Fundraising Push

21 Sep 2007 09:37 am

Donations usually slow in the third quarter, but former MA Gov. Mitt Romney is ready to write a check to keep his campaign's $80M budget on track. Still, the campaign will make one last public push.

Called the "Rally for Romney," this two-day event features dozens of local fundraisers across the country and culminates in a major Salt Lake City gala on Sept. 28.

In a video posted on the campaign's website, Romney says that "literally thousands" of Romney supporters have agreed to attend more than 40 different events so far.

The campaign has lowered the entry barrier to just $1,000 per person -- previous events had requested that each person committ to raising $5,000.

"Bring your own lists and your own associate fundraisers to reach that goal," a Romney fundraiser says.

Romney's family is pitching in: just this week, Tagg Romney appeared at a $200-per-head fundraiser on Wednesday; son Craig Romney attended a Young Professionals for Mitt event in Georgetown that same night.

Romney's fundraising organization is high-tech, and like every other candidate, he keeps track of donation bundlers by providing them with private codes. When they solicit donations, the new donors provide the campaign with the bundler's codes, and the bundlers are thusly rewarded.

I attended and worked at the first Rally for Romney in San Diego CA on the 19th. I personally raised nearly $3000 in three hours for the Governor's bid, and was amazed at the name recognition he enjoyed across demographic lines. This was not a tough sell, people knew of him, appreciated his track record and felt he was electable. They dug into their wallets without hesitation. Since that night (48 hours) I have raised and additional $1200 and will ocntinue through the end of next week with a goal of $10,000. This country needs Romney's pragmatic, experienced based, leadership, more than at any time perhaps since the Great Deprsession.

I have donated to Romney online recently and my wife has also. To be honest I would not be comfortable calling people for money, but I am happy to give my money to Romney. I know he can self fund, but its better to have teamwork.

i have given money to romney as well online adn plan to attend the dc rally.

i think romney's leadership and goals are what we need right now.

I must be cheap because I bought some of his Romney shirts. I figure as long as I'm donating I might as well get a shirt.

i donated so he can be in more hot and sweaty commercials (kidding)
romney seems pretty serious about immigration, that's what I'm looking for this year

I've also signed up to be a donor online (regular monthly donation on a credit card). The Romney campaign is the only one that seems to address many of the issues that I'm most interested in, in the manner in which I'd like to see them handled.

I am attending one of those Rally for Romney events. I am excited and well prepared. Romney is a strong candidate with a great message and I am proud to volunteer at a grassroots level to get a President in the White House with such leadership experience. Join the Mitt Romney Team !! we are a team of energy and action!!

Mitt is the only presidential candidate that I have ever donated to in 65 years. Why? Finally, there is someone has the background, the experience, and the vision of this great USA that it so justly deserves. Go Mitt!

Here's another question to consider: what if Mike Huckabee outraises both McCain and Thompson? Or just McCain and basically even with Fred? What kind of effect does that have on their campaigns?

I think he's about to clip 5 million.

"Mitt is the only presidential candidate that I have ever donated to in 65 years. Why? Finally, there is someone has the background, the experience, and the vision of this great USA that it so justly deserves. Go Mitt!"

The Romney kids are at it again! Get back to your homework!

I attended a Rally as well. It was fun. I was surprised how many of my friends were willing to contribute. My goal is to get $5,000 raised by the general election and I am almost half way there. I think the main reason why Romney is such a good fundraiser is because his message is connecting and people know that he would make an exceptional President.

I hate civil liberties, and I'm just afraid for my life. I don't care if I'm free, I just want to feel like I'm safe. So I Rally for Romney!
