Hmmm, the guy who is estranged from two thirds of his families gets an opportunity to tell his wife how much he loves her in front of a huge audience. Sure thing boss!
Watching the NRA clip, it sounds to me like Rudy's little stunt bombed. The silence was pretty deafening after an initial smattering of applause.
Yeah, this is staged to counter Vilsack's comments on NY1. Not. gonna. work.
Rudy is inartfully coy, assuming again that his audience is stupid and easily manipulated by such a display. Whether this was a stunt in the planned-in-advance sense or just something he realized he could exploit when the phone rang (seems unlikely; and for a man who claims to have leadership skills, does he intend to keep his cell phone on ring when he is President?) it was still inappropriate and patronizing. SEE I LOVE MY WIFE, AREN'T WE CUTE? just doesn't make the prickly Rudy a touchy-feely, warm and cuddly kind of guy. The real Rudy is the one who came out in defense of his so-called Homeland Security Advisor Pete King yesterday after King said Democrats trust Bin Ladin more than Bush and that there were too many mosques in America.
I guess we all know who wears the pants in that marriage. Oh yeah, right - Rudy prefers the dress.

This looks perfect for one of those "Men should act like Men" beer commercials. You can't tell your wife not to call you during campaign events, and you expect us to see you as strong enough to be President? Is pussy whipped one word or two?

If my wife called me while I was giving a speech, I'd let it go to voice mail, and I'm pretty sure that's exactly what she'd expect me to do. For Rudy's sake, I sure hope it was a fake. Otherwise, I feel for the guy who's afraid not to take his wife's call during a speech.
When Rudy announces, "it's my wife," why didn't some wag say, "which one?"
Classic Jamey, I agree that this is an inelegant way of dealing with Rudy's reputation as a cross-dressing, philandering, gun-hating, abortion loving, dandy/fop. My question is, why did his campaign pull this at the NRA? Why not a one of the countless family-values forums or Women for Rudy events? Yet more evidence that Rudy's campaign is not quite up to snuff.
Everything about this guy is artificial and staged. Another one of his stunts on the campaign trail is to show up at a Costco or a Sam's Club to buy mundane items (e.g. tube socks). The media has always been tipped off beforehand, making it obvious that the appearance is lame effort to show voters that he just an "average joe" like you and me.
I don't doubt that it was staged - that's Judi for you. Still, what I find really almost sad, is that I sincerely believe they thought it would work. They're in their own little love-bubble, delusionally thinking that the world thinks their marriage is the most perfect thing going. Honestly, I think this is what will bring him down more than anything. Pathetic, really... He really should have stayed in the private sector, raking in loads of dough to finance their anything-but-frugal lifestyle, allowing someone with their wits intact to lead the country.
RUDY: "Hmmm...I'm not gonna get any good press out of this NRA speech today, honey, so please call me at 11:15 so I can stop squirming for a minute." Nice try, Rudy. Personally, I think it's rude to take a phone call in the middle of a speech, and my wife would agree.
One can almost see the Montgomery Burns moment: "I'll have my wife call during the NRA talk -- that will have the morons eating out of my hands."

This looks embarrassingly staged. How dumb does he think people are? That could as easily be a staffer calling from the car out front. It comes off as phony and calculated.
