Lucky NBC News Gets First Fred Thompson Debate

17 Sep 2007 04:28 pm

The first time you'll get to see Ex-Sen. Fred Thompson challenge his fellow Republicans in a debate will be October 9 in Dearborn, Michigan.

It's sponsored by CNBC, MSNBC and the Wall Street Journal and will focus, generally, on the economy.

Per Thompson's campaign, he'll participate in an October 14 ABC News/WMUR/New Hampshire Union Leader debate and a Fox News debate in Florida on October 21.

Judging by his trail performance, he'll tank.

I don't think he will get off his lazy as* to be at any of the debates. And even if he shows up he will be as flat as Tancredo. Fredrick of Hollywood has already bombed and people have smelled the sulpher.

I'm sure Thompson has a deep, depth of knowledge on the economy and will shine in this debate (tongue firmly in cheek!).
D

I'm just wondering why he would even want to debate. Nobody watches the debates except for people who've already made up their minds... and besides... he's already tracking nicely in just about every major poll... including early Primary state NC... running 2nd in Iowa and nationally he's pretty much tied or on top of Rudy within just two weeks of declaring. His "Flat" campaign, as his critics like to call it, has him doing just fine... but hey... when you call him Fredrick of Hollywood that really makes me want to reconsider my support for Fred.

Go Fred - Beat Hillary

Candidates debate because they are expected to and if they can benefit by the debate. Otherwise, Fred would skip this one too. Most of these debates cover the meaning of life in 30 second sound-bites and that is not much like the Lincoln-Douglas debates of old. At least a debate on a major area should prove interesting. There ARE differences among these candidates. I disagree with the post that says people have already made up their mind. A lot of voters wait for a few weeks or months before the election to make up their mind. A poster above poisons the wells, at least let Fred Thompson speak first and then vilify him. He is a refreshing addition to the field. My sense at this point is we are thinking Fred Thompson, Rudy Guiliani and John McCain. Better than a socialist ANY day of the week, ANY week. Better the Bushes and Clintons were history and not doomed to repeat it.

Isn't is funny how people are piling on Fred. It's just a bunch of left wing radicals shaking in their boots cause the Dems are on their way out in 08.

GO FRED!! You're moving up in the polls! Keep up the good work.

We are thinking Mitt Romney, my friend. He's got the answers and the skills to get the job done. Go here for more: http://nyformitt.blogspot.com/

Like Rudy, Mitt and John, he has snubbed NH and his polling numbers show.

He has little support here. The last rally he was at drew about 75 people and they were all yawning.

Left wing? I doubt it. We're died-in-wool GOPers in NH questioning Fred's "conservatism"...

Fred Thompson - CFR member

I noticed Sam Brownback went to the expense and trouble of traveling to NH to engage the voters... for his troubles he was greeted by a crowd of 12... including event staff. Seems like NH voters have their minds made up and are only attending the events of the candidates they already support. Is this the case? Or are the just ignoring the so-called 2nd tier?

What about the September 27th debate in Baltimore at Morgan State University?

I have noticed since Thompson's announcing of his
candidacy,every report by the media has been to lablel him as "lazy", "flat", "lacking", etc. Could this be that the liberal media is afraid of the man! I think so! I can assure you one thing;
he is resonating with the people and the people will spread the word by mouth and internet....The mainstream media today is not important anymore.
You can't influence the elections today as you have done before......We'll see what you are saying about him in January.

Go, Freddie, we're ready!

Fred Thompson is the only candidate questioning Washington’s “One size fits all” approach to the laws passed by congress, and pointing out that the 50 States should be allowed to share some of the responsibility of running the country instead of just paying taxes to the federal government, allowing the Feds to make all the decisions for the USA as a whole.
While many are passionately discrediting Thompson and casting reasonable doubt on his campaign, the voting public will ultimately decide who is and who isn't the best qualified candidate to be president.
Fred Thompson has the temperament and the knowledge to lead this nation.
Here we go, the debates will show!

Fred Thompson is not the only candidate questioning the one size fits all approach. Congressman Ron Paul is consistently pointing out the overreach by the federal government. Now, please remind me again why he has absolutely no chance. Wait, never mind. I just remembered. Declarations of War have no place in today's dangerous world.

I can not wait to hear a student of Ludwig von Mises enlighten us on October 9th.

It does me good to hear the MSM trying to marginalize Fred. JQP is already so sick of the MSM that this type of attention only makes us more interested in Fred. I trust the basic instincts of the average voter way more than any pundit, so let the left keep an eye on those polls and let the left sweat it out. The conservatives in this country will quietly rally around the guy they see as fit, and while blogging is fun, it is also obviously a simple collection of individual points of view, and will not carry the day. So have fun and quit taking yourselves so seriously. Kind-hearted banter is so much more fun to read.

There is absolutely no doubt that they are afraid of Fred Thompson. Recently, he was in Lawrenceburg, TN and the paper said there were "hundreds" there. The actual number was closer to 11,000!

No one is being attacked like Fred is. The Dems are scared and the liberal media is trying to help Hillary. If you want a true leader, Vote Fred!!!

Go, Fred Go

Fred's entry in the race has the fear juices flowing in the Democratic camp. Until now, there were no candidates seen as a real threat to the Dems. We need to put Hillary + the Muslim back in the box. We really need to shut down the liberal rhetoric machine that we call the media. They suck!
God Bless America!

I don't know. I looked forward to Fred for a while there, but so far he doesn't seem like he's done much homework. Nice folksy voice, but too many of his answers sound he's never really thought about the issues. Unless he comes through big in the next couple of debates, I'm more impressed with Romney as a truly creative, can-do leader. They all talk big, Romney included. But you don't accomplish what he's done with talk alone. That's the kind of leader who will do good things for the country. After Bush, we could use someone who can think on his feet, tap the input of other talented people, and communicate clearly. From what I can tell, Romney is that kind of leader. He understands people, business, and budgets, and Hillary is simply not in his league. She might get votes because she's a woman, but no one is going to vote for her over Romney because she has a better understanding of business, finance, taxation, jobs, or sensible healthcare, etc. That being said, I'll still wait to see if Fred can do better. But he better make it quick, and it better be good.
