Thompson's Rebuttal On Immigration Overlooks "C" Grade

Ahead of tonight's Republican debate in New Hampshire, Ex-Sen. Fred Thompson is trying to pre-empt attacks on his Senate voting record.

After the Washington Times this a.m. published an article calling Thompson "soft" on immigration, the campaign released a memo calling Thompson "a consistent supporter of conservative immigration proposals." The memo does not mention the Washington Times piece, which called attention to "a series of votes in the 1990s against cracking down on illegal aliens. Those include a 1995 vote against limiting services other than emergency care and public education to illegal aliens — he was one of just six senators to oppose that proposal — and a 1996 vote against creating an employer verification system to help businesses filter out illegal aliens who apply for jobs."

The memo says that Thompson:

OPPOSED the McCain-Kennedy Immigration Reform Bill. OPPOSES amnesty for illegal immigrants. SUPPORTS tougher border control along the U.S./Mexican border. SUPPORTS increased penalties against alien smuggling and document fraud.

The memo brags that Thompson has an "A+" from an advocacy group called "Americans for Better Immigration" on the subject of border security.

That's true.

But there's more to the story.... ABI gave Thompson a "C" for his overall Senate record.

ABI also gives Thompson an "D" on votes to reduce the incentives for illegal immigrants and an "F" on votes to reduce the number of foreign workers coming to the U.S.

ABI is not part of the anti-immigration fringe; its executive director, Roy Beck, is a high-profile advocate for reducing immigration -- overall.

I don't care what his immigration record has been in the past, same as for the other candidates. I have had seven years of "stay the course" and don't mind a politican whose ideas change with the times and circumstances and public input. In fact it would be refreshing.
The real question is, is Thompson for deportation of every single illegal in the country?

In 2006 the average cost of each Illegal Alien here is 11,000.00 per year for American Taxpayers!

When Illegal Aliens are deported to their own countries:

1. Our Federal & State Welfare cost will decrease by Billions & State our tax Receipts will increase by billions
2. Our crime & cost, both in money and human suffering will take a Hugh drop down
3. Our schools will make a great improvement in the education of our children & cost decrease
4. Innovation will increase
5. Medical care will improve and cost will go down
6. Insurance cost will decrease
7. The increase in wages & the 60 billion currently going out of country now will create a large increase in demand for goods and services & new businesses and expanding business & our economy will soar
8. Even business that think they must have Slave labor to survive will find they are more profitable & new revenues & sources for profits will increase. (As Henry Ford discovered if he wanted to sell cars he must pay a livable wage so people could afford his cars)
9.. Our standard of living will go up
10.. But maybe the most important benefit will be stopping the influx of Illegal Aliens with their Loyally to other Nations & hate for all things American, that if left unchecked will tear our society apart!

Fred is all talk and no action. He is a "republican in name only". Fred is a pro-choice and pro-immigration just like Romney. What are these two phonies doing running in a republican primary?

While working as a lobbyist in 1991, soon-to-be social conservative presidential candidate Thompson lobbied the George H.W. Bush
administration about easing the government's gag rule in regards to federally funded clinics.
This story is backed by personal recollections of the head of the abortion rights group for which Thompson lobbied and a colleague who worked with Thompson at the time as well as minutes from meetings.

Thomson also supported the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill last year.

Thomson is AGAINST cracking down on illegal aliens.

Thomson is AGAINST limiting services other than emergency care and public education to illegal aliens.

Thomson is AGAINST creating an employer verification system to help businesses filter out illegal aliens who apply for jobs.

Thomson is FOR providing public education to illegal aliens.

Usually the groups that "advocate for reducing immigration -- overall" are part of the fringe. That's because, you, know, they're against immigration in general. Tancredo wants a complete "time-out" when it comes to immigration. Pat Buchanan wants immigration reduced down to about 250,000 (which would leave us with by far the lowest immigration rate in the history of the republic). These guys are "on the fringe" in my book in the sense that they possess zero chance of seeing their ideas enacted, or winning the White House. I've yet to find an anti-immigration group that was truly opposed only to illegal immigration (and not immigration "overall"). But such a group, in my mind, would perhaps be rightly classified as "mainstream". The others, though, really are on the fringe.

Thompson will not even carry Tennessee if he will not agree to prosecute and deport all illegals and cut all benefits. Americans are Outraged and now is the time to no longer procrastinate but to recognize we have to offend to exist as free Americans. 5. Self abuse, self induced hardship, self abuse, self torture to seek pity.
6. Willingness to allow others to humiliate, degrade and back stab
7, Cowering, hiding , whimpering so as not to offend other groups who are bent on gaining superiority over you.

American citizens have become prisoners to a treasonous government that have chained us with the weight of involuntarily supporting criminals who flood across our borders stealing American identities, jobs, and welfare services that belong to our elderly, Americans w/ disabilities and veterans. llkjlkj - you don't think it's "compassionate" to reunite them with the families they deserted in their homeland? Isn't it compassionate to rescue them from living a life of crime in OUR country, returning them (free of charge) to their homes so that they can live honest, upstanding lives?

And do you mean that a "compassionate" person is one who *doesn't* call the cops when they see a burglar climbing into your window or vandals throwing a party on your deck? Is it *really* "compassion" to look the other way, or even ABET, the commission of a crime? Really?

It's disiquisting for me to see how many people hate undocumented just for the fact that they are less fortunate. I bet that 99.9% of people who cry out "deport them" and "they are criminals" would be here illegally if they were in the same circumstances. Why can't you people understand that they came here out of need and not to hurt anyone or use free services? They have been used and abused here because they have no other choice but to be here. They do not leave their families there because they do not care for them. THey leave their families their to support them. Isn't it sad that they have to tolerate all the cr. and live in constant fear of their lives being torn apart by deportation? ...that they have to risk their lives to come here, because they have no other alternativesi? It IS compassionate to put yourselves in their shoes and understand that there are people less fortunate than you are...to look a little bit beyong your own nose...

I have no doubt that if undocumented were not profitable for US they would not be here...
As it turns out the current law is designed to allow undocumented to work here and pay taxes. So, it is not possible to enforce the existing immigration law. SSA and IRS cannot legally share their "missmatches in SSN" with Homeland Secruity Administration. Isn't that convinient. The message we are sending to undocumented: We look down on you, because you are "criminals" and you break our laws by coming here illegally and working here illegally. However go ahead and continue paying billions of dollors in taxes for social security benefits you are not eligible for. So we will use your helpless situation and steal taxes from you and then we will point fingers at you because you broke the law. ...and once you used your labour to profit our business and take care of our sick, we will kick you out and keep the taxes you paid. Oh, yeah, and it's OK for us to keep all the profit that businesses make by employing illegals. ...and it's OK for us to keep and use taxes these businesses pay. However, God forbid, these taxes are used for any "benefits" for illegals. The illegals do not use any public benefits, because they are too afraid to be deported. They pay property taxes like any other person but they cannot put their children to school because that would drain the school systems? They contributed to paying for those schools like any other person who owes or rents property. So what is the problem? Legalizing them will cut down the profit from them? If that is the real issue then why cover behind the big words like "breaking the law", etc. PlEEEAAAZE!

Un True-Facts, the anti-immigrants do not state proof because they do not have any. If they were to go find some proof they will finally realize that they have fallen for all the lies spoken by the many talk show hosts and they do not want to admit that they have been made a fool out of these people.

This nation has seen illegal immigration from it's inception. I am 100% sure that if any of these anti-immigrant folks go research their own family history they will find at least one relative who immigrated here without legal documents, and if that relative had chosen not to immigrate, these same folks would not be here today spewing so much hate. Wake up people, this country was founded by immigrants, regardless of how those immigrants got here, this is what makes this country great.

The biggest invasion/ occupation is all history is
underway from the AZTLANISTA FORCES that are pouring across our borders illegally. The anger about this will NEVER GO AWAY. and Monterrey turned into radioactive craters, the true Mexican Nationals will get on the buses for the ride south. They love their culture too
