A Romney Endorsement, A Quick Rejection Of Thompson

25 Oct 2007 10:02 am

Gov. Mitt Romney was endorsed today by the influential Collier Co., Florida sheriff Don Hunter.

On Tuesday, Hunter met with Ex-Sen. Fred Thompson to talk about the latter's immigration enforcement plan. The fact of the meeting with Hunter was used by Thompson to roll out the plan. But the sheriff evidently was not impressed.

"I have had the opportunity to look at the records of other candidates, and it is clear that Governor Romney is the candidate with the most impressive record of accomplishment in the public and private sectors and the strongest record of enforcing our immigration laws," Hunter is quoted by the Romney campaign as saying.

Did sheriff Hunter ask Mitt about his lawn service workers?

matt,

You're an idiot.

In further good news for Romney, a new New Hampshire poll has him leading the pack convincingly, which is surely what he needs.

In even better good news... the latest Rasmussen has Romney slipping to 4th... and keep in mind... that's GOP voters likely to vote in the primary... not just people called at random... Romney has real problems... you can only buy an election for so long... ask Ross Perot...

The problem is Fred has it right on illegal immigration.

Mitt is pro amnesty. But maybe he will flip flop during the campaign when he realizes that Americans under no circumstances will tolerate amnesty and go for deportation.

But I don't trust Mitt to follow through.

Fred believes in taking America back.

Mitt is in it for Mitt.

wtf, Romney has used illegal immigrants to work on his lawn in Boston.

On the other hand how can a lazy, old man like Thomson enforce immigration laws?

Fred Thompson has actually SPELLED OUT THE DETAILS
of his immigration fix. Is very aware of the longterm problem with the Anchor Baby situation, and resolves to end the "CHAIN MIGRATION RULES". He has even suggested judicial reappraisal of the true meaning of the 14 Amendment. Nobody else has gone that far. He is 10 times more popular in the race than Duncan Hunter, who is clearly a good guy. I'd hope Thompson would consider Hunter as a running mate! We will be dealing with 100 million more poor folks from Latin American if we don't stem the flow. This "soft invasion" will ultimately be our cultural "KILLSHOT"! We can still save the American Dream if we back the right candidate in '08!

Bettybb,

If you care about the truth Mitt Romney is against Amnesty.

Thompson's tough talk is just talk.

First, Mitt Romney is not for amnesty. Second, Thompson's plan is disturbingly similar to one proposed by Romney six months ago. Fred, however has added strong statements on immigration like "stripping federal funding from state and local social services who OFFER services to illegal immigrants." He offers no substantive proof or record of any state or local gov. entity doing this. It's Just talk.

As a public servant, I can tell you that state and local social service groups are not OFFERING services to illegal immigrants. Furthermore, the controls are already in place to curb or prevent illegal immigrants from obtaining these services (such as requiring a SS# or license). If someone slips through the system it is through human error or fraud on the part of an employee (which can and does happen). But Fred is just pandering to an uninformed audience who doesn't know that the details of Thompson's tough talk are already commonplace. He's looking at curbing illegal immigration through the wrong lens.

I have lived in Florida for 19 years and never heard of Collier County OR Don Hunter. He is JUST A COUNTY SHERIFF, and I doubt he sways many Republican voters; if he does, perhaps an investigation is in order.

I doubt that the MILLIONS of Floridians who don't know Mr. Hunter give a rip who he endorses!

Perhaps Justin can provide us with a link to Mitt's Immigration Reform policy... I just can't seem to find it... and Justin also says all you need to prevent illegals from using social services is to require a SS# or License... ha... that's pretty funny since they already hve those... fake ones... but even worse... the Libs want to give illegals... guess what... real SS#s and real Licenses...

Again... I would like to see Mitt's plan on immigration reform. Everytime the guys sneezes the MSM is all over it... and I've heard nothing about his immigration plan.

If you go to Mitt Romney's Website you will see Mitt's Immigration plan:

http://www.mittromney.com/Issue-Watch/Immigration

And here's what (all) it says...

Immigration has been an important part of our nation's success. The current system, however, puts up a concrete wall to the best and brightest, yet those without skill or education are able to walk across the border. We must reform the current immigration laws so we can secure our borders, implement a mandatory biometrically enabled, tamper proof documentation and employment verification system, and increase legal immigration into America.

Wow! That is quite a plan. But I like Fred's better. You will find his here:

Justin Manassas: "First, Mitt Romney is not for amnesty."

Check your watch to see how long this flip-flop takes.

JM: "Thompson's plan is disturbingly similar to one proposed by Romney six months ago."

Produce it.

Justin M: "Fred, however has added strong statements on immigration like "stripping federal funding from state and local social services who OFFER services to illegal immigrants." He offers no substantive proof or record of any state or local gov. entity doing this. It's Just talk."

Is the closing of several dozen hospitals in California enough "substantive proof" for you? How about something a little closer to your home, like;
"Virginia County Votes to Deny Services to Illegal Immigrants" 10/17 Jay Paul for The New York Times
"...A state panel co-chaired by State Delegate David B. Albo weighed in on illegal immigration issues.
In Prince William County, supervisors unanimously voted early this morning — after a 12-hour, emotionally charged debate — to move forward with a plan to deny certain county services to illegal immigrants and to direct the police to enforce immigration laws."

Could you help me out with a slight problem here Justin??
Why would Supervisors from Prince William County bother to vote in denying "certain county services" if they were never provided in the first place?? Here's another clip from the same article;

"The final resolution, which was passed with a unanimous vote at about 2:30 a.m., was slightly watered down from the original version, which was proposed by Supervisor John T. Stirrup.

“Illegal immigration is causing economic hardship and lawlessness in this county,” Mr. Stirrup wrote in his original resolution."

So here we have another little problem Justin, exactly what "economic hardship" could Mr. Stirrup be referring to here?? Another little clip;

"...One of the biggest champions of the measure was the board of supervisor’s chairman, Corey Stewart, who has made immigration his cornerstone issue as he and all the supervisors face reelection next month.

“Prince William County and other localities have had to pick up the slack for what the federal government has failed to do,” Mr. Stewart said in an interview seen on his Web site...."

What "slack" has the government failed to provide Justin?? Are you suggesting this isn't referring to money?? If it is, just how would illegal aliens get their hands on the county's money if not through some service??

Justin M: "As a public servant, I can tell you that state and local social service groups are not OFFERING services to illegal immigrants."

It appears we've just settled this argument without need for further comment.

Justin M:"Furthermore, the controls are already in place to curb or prevent illegal immigrants from obtaining these services (such as requiring a SS# or license)."

This is also not what this article reports OR are you leaving out of your claims that this just occured?? Did you also happen to know that Social Security cards are THE most counterfeited form of ID by Illegal Aliens or the most fraudulently applied for??

Justin M: "If someone slips through the system it is through human error or fraud on the part of an employee (which can and does happen)."

To the tune of tens of millions of dollars in every county in just about every state AND triple that in border states...I don't think so Justin, not even our public servants are that pathetic but, I imagine I might get a few arguments from a few readers here. LOL!

Justin M's last drivel: "But Fred is just pandering to an uninformed audience who doesn't know that the details of Thompson's tough talk are already commonplace. He's looking at curbing illegal immigration through the wrong lens."

I think after the proof we've seen here you are the one who is woefully uninformed and Fred doesn't have to offer any proof because it is anywhere and everywhere we care to look.

However, just in case anyone has a question about anything on the subject at all;
