Iowa SEIU To Endorse Edwards Monday

13 Oct 2007 03:20 pm

Iowa's Service Employees International Union members will endorse Ex-Sen. John Edwards on Monday, numerous Democratic sources said.

Edwards recently added a 5:30 pm ET "health care" event to his schedule on Monday in Iowa City, home to the state's largest concentration of SEIU members.

Monday, October 15 is the first day that SEIU state affiliates can endorse individual candidates. When the national union decided not to offer a universal endorsement, it allowed each state aggregation to choose their own candidates.

I hope Edwards wins. He is the only candidate that can move the Country forward like we need to. Clinton is too hated, and Obama can't win.

Edwards will stay popular even as president, whereas Hillary will become more hated.

Probably doesn't make up for much. A candidate in JRE's position needs to whole organization behind him.

Well, it's true that it would've been nice to have the entire organization behind him, but this endorsement is huge boost to his Iowa operations. If the NH and Nevada SEIUs follow suit, than it will provide Edwards with more strength in the early states.

Stop being disingenuous, Oscar. If we come together, we might well get rid of the real enemy called Hillary Clinton.

Bill did well. But the fact of the matter is, America is tired of the Clintons and their kind of poilitics. This country needs healing.

I'm happy for Edwards's endorsement. I'm a dedicated Obama supporter and will vote for him come hell or high water. But I wont lose sleep if Edwards wins. Either of these two men are good for brand America.

Save the Democratic Party from disaster. Vote Obama.

I am very shocked to see people discount that Hillary cannot win. She is winning.

The latest Quinnipiac Poll shows her beating any of the GOP contenders in OH, FL and PA.

Obama and Edwards cannot do that.

Clinton can win and that is simple!

I hope the other SEIUs follow suit.

We were having this discussion over at the Dailykos the other day, and it looked like, at that time, that John Edwards might be receiving endorsements from the following state SEIUs:

Iowa
New Hampshire
Nevada
California
Ohio
West Virginia
Kentucky

Obama was guaranteed the Chicago/Illinois SEIU, and NY SEIU was split between Edwards and Clinton.

If Edwards receives those SEIUs up there, that' going to do wonders for him in all of those states, and 1) increase his chances in the first 3 primaries, 2) give him the good news that comes with the largest SEIU in the country (California), and 3) a right ot claim that he has broader appeal in battleground states like OH, WV, and KY.

If he receives NY SEIU instead of Clinton, that would be a major coup, as well.

I am very shocked to see people discount that Hillary cannot win. She is winning.

Oh please. In the latest Qunnipiac Poll, Hillary Clinton was within the margin of error just like Edwards and Obama were.

In fact, overall, John Edwards showed greater overall strength against all Republicans in the Quinnipiac Poll despite have less positive news and less money than Hillary Clinton.

For a guy who was polling 30 points behind Clinton to do better than her against the Republican field, which is what he did by outpolling her against the GOP 8 times compared to her 4 times, is a sign that if he were the nominee, he'd be much better in the general election than she would be.

In a "real life" election in 2008, these poll numbers right now won't mean squat, so for a guy to be getting smeared and slapped around by the media like Edwards is, for him to be doing better against the Republicans than Clinton is with all of her good press, that's something that Democrats should take notice of.

I'm happy for Edwards. I honestly believe that he is the best candidate for the job in this particular election. Hillary would be a disaster, either in the general election or if she did happen to get elected, the Presidency. I like Obama. I just don't believe that America is ready for an African-American President quite yet. Don't get me wrong, I personally would have no problem with it. I'm just deathly afraid that some crazy white supremacist would assassinate Obama. Then were would our country and his family be?

I'm voting for Edwards. I've been supporting him since January. I've been checking out all the candidates (Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Prohibition Party, Independent, and Peace and Freedom) since January as they systematically entered the race and dropped out, and I still think Edwards is the best candidate for me. I haven't seen him change his position on any subject he's brought up or has been dealt. I don't agree with every issue he supports, but I do on the majority of them. There isn't a candidate who's going to have the exact same views on every issue as every American Voter, but he had a plan before he entered the race and was one of the first if not the very first to enter and let everyone know what his plans were. I've seen the other democratic candidates change and modify their stands so they can appear they are as good if not better then him. We all need to vote for Edwards because if Hillary wins the Democratic Primary she will lose the General Election and most likely in my opinion John McCain will become our next President. The Republicans already know they are going to win the Presidency if Hillary wins the Democratic Primary. Putting Hillary in the race was part of the Republicans plan from the start. They want the Democrats to focus their votes on Hillary so the votes will be pulled away from Edwards and Obama. The Republicans want Hillary to win the Democratic Primary. Their betting on it. They also know she won't become President in the upcoming year because (1)Too many people don't want her (ALL parties combined), and (2)She has picked through the ideas of her counterparts to assemble what the American People Want To Hear. She knows, supports and is supported by too many people in Washington (and elsewhere) and most surely has the backing of special interest groups lobbying for her exposure so they can benefit from her grabbing the Democratic seat in the Primary, then discarding her in the General. The people who really run our government are hidden behind the scenes and will never reveal themselves. Politics is all about profit for them. This is a Chess Game for them and they know exactly when and where to move each piece. Granted, it would be great to see someone who could actually guide This Nation out of the rut it is in, but the People who Actually Control our Government from behind our Elected Officials will never let it happen. When the American People realize they are also being manipulated towards the direction to vote for certain individuals by the people really controlling our Government, then maybe we'll head in the right direction for our benefit. Drop Hillary. She's not getting her exposure from donations by the Average Joe. She's getting it from her own money and the money she gets from the loopholes created by our Government. Research Hillarys past before supporting her. Sure she's cast votes in support of things she now regrets just like the rest of us have. But don't let that soften your feelings about her and cause you to vote for her. She has a side we don't want to see. She's a very secret person. We need someone with a new direction and ideas. Don't allow her to pull your vote away from someone else in the Primary Election who really has the best chance of becoming our next President and doing some good for this Country. Please help by supporting John Edwards as I am. Thank you.
