Mitt Romney proposes:

A Reagan Zone Of Economic Freedom

(As Chris Matthews would say: "HA!")

Fred Thompson proposes:

A Reagan Zone Of Freedom From Contact With Illegal Immigrants.

Not really, but his plan, spurring attrition through macho enforcement, is already getting rave reviews from the tough-to-please enforcement-first crowd.

A Thompson release announcing the proposal includes a subhead jab at GiulianI:
"Giuliani Told Illegal Immigrants He Would Protect Them"

Now, let's try the grown-up version:

1. "Freedom From Contact With Illegal Immigrants" is more like freedom from massive government corruption and foreign governments having political power inside the U.S.

2. Enforcing our laws isn't "macho", it's what our officials should have been doing all along but didn't because they're corrupt.

3. This is the first major candidate to propose attrition, meaning that the corrupt press won't as easily be able to ignore that option as they've done in the past.
