What Changed Richard Viguerie's Mind About Giuliani?

08 Oct 2007 10:46 am

On Friday, Richard Viguerie, the conservative direct pioneer, circulated a petition on his website urging Republicans to committ to opposing a pro-choice nominee, a la Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City.

We will present the petition to the members of the Republican National Committee, the President and Republican members of Congress, media and blogs, and many other Republican leaders.

It will be a powerful warning to those in a position of influence that, if the GOP turns against unborn children, a significant portion of its base will not vote for Republican candidates.

But in 2000, Viguerie had no compunction about taking money from Giuliani.
According to FEC records and news accounts, Giuliani's abortive (heh) 2000 Senate campaign contracted with American Target Advertising, Viguerie's firm, to the tune of $820,000.

The obvious explanation is that Viguerie knows the Republican party can't be purged entirely of pro-choice Senators, but to have a pro-choice President, with so much more power, is a step too far. Also, I believe Viguerie was an Iraq War skeptic, so he's probably more sour toward Republicans in general than he was seven years ago.

Money is a different ballgame...

Face the facts.
75% of voting Republicans will not let Hillary win. The other can stay home and pray, that is good.
50% of the independents will not support
Hillary.
25% of the Democrats will not support Hillary.
Rudy will get the GOP nomination and will win.*
You will live to fight again with Rudy
We may not make it under Hillary
Some need to get your head out of the sand and know that their will be more babies killed under Hillary than under Rudy.
Elect Senators and congressmen to protect your interest
Rev. Hugh Davis, Evangelical Pastor
[And I have prayed over this decision and know it is accurate by His response]*

You know it is accurate by "HIS response?" Wow, God actually speaks to you about Rudy Giuliani? You must be one important dude. Are you sure it's not the devil speaking? Why would Rudy of all people be HIS instrument of righteousness? Rudy ain't gonna protect your interest, I can assure you of that. I am guessing that exactly the same number of babies who would be killed under Hillary would be killed under Rudy, given that Bush, an evangelical president (unlike very a-religious and immoral Rudy) has been able to effect NO change whatsoever in that direction. All Bush has managed to do is kill a lot of people who are out of the womb -- both on death row in Texas and over in Ira1 (our young men, and Iraqi civilians including women and children).

Rudy will split the party.. how great is that? If Rudy gets the nom, I'll quit the party, and so will everyone else I know!

In fact, I liked how they put it at http://www.conservativetimes.org/ "Any Christian “conservative” who would vote for Giuliani should turn his card in at the door."

Viguerie is now supporting Ron Paul, http://www.ultimateronpaul.com
