A Rebuke Of Robertson From Iowa's Powerful Christian Alliance

08 Nov 2007 08:29 am

The Iowa Christian Alliance is the most powerful grassroots organization in the state, the heir to the Christian Coalition and a voice that, when it speaks collectively, is mighty influential. Pat Robertson is, of course, one of the founders of the Christian Coalition.

The ICA's president, Steve Scheffler, is not happy.

“We’re not going to beat Hillary Clinton with someone who has a record of agreement with her on abortion, gay marriage, illegal immigration and many other issues important to Iowa conservatives," he writes in a statement.

"Some conservatives seem willing to look past Giuliani’s liberal record because he appears strongest in national polls against Hillary Clinton. The truth is, the national election is still months away. Iowans should nominate a candidate who can draw a contrast with Hillary, not someone who shares her New York values. In fact, recent polls point to Giuliani’s slippage against Hillary Clinton on the national scene and are evidence that the “electability” argument doesn’t hold water."

The kicker:

"Social conservatives such as Pat Robertson who back pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage candidates do a disservice to the conservative movement. At the end of the day, we have to stand for something, or our movement has no purpose.”

Governor Mike Huckabee is not only the natural choice of those who consider themselves conservative and of a Judeo-Christian bent, he is an excellent choice. He is the best choice. There are still a lot of people in this country who will follow a wise and honest leader who cares about his country. Mike is not beholden to any special interest groups, and I hope it stays that way. I am surprised at the response of many who are supposed to be leaders in the "Christian community". I believe the grass roots is much wiser. And, thankfully, they are the ones who will be voting! I really like Mike.

yes, i concurr. huckabee is the best candidate of all candidates from either side.

we've been praying for a man of God to run america. now God raises one up and what do people like pat robertson do? pander to the almighty dollar. love of money is the root of all evil and you can best bet there's a payoff in it for robertson, his dwindling contributions will be even more dwindling but i'm sure the new endorsement has promises of off-setting that, although it will never be outright said by rudy or robertson.

we have many other more powerful voices in the Christian community than robertson who is pretty much toast now. there's john hagee, rod parsely, benny hinn, jensen franklin, larry hutch and much more, all of which have a daily national reach to the Christians, and even if they don't come out and endorse a particular candidate, we KNOW who they endorse: Mike Huckabee.

Greetings Fellow Conservative Voters,

I am confused and appalled by the recent endorsement of Rudy Giuliani by Pat Robertson. The GOP will implode if it nominates a self-described Liberal like Mr. New York. I saw him the other night dressed up like a woman when he was the Grand Marshall for the Gay Rights Parade in New York City during his tenure as mayor. This man does not represent what we have worked so hard to build during the last few elections. He will tear it down in one night...

Vote Mike Huckabee or Fred Thompson...they are our only conservative hope...

Looking at Huckabee and Thompson, it seems like you could only go with Huckabee. Thompson told Tim Russert that he opposes a Human Life Amendment and talked about the danger of "criminalizing young girls" who want an abortion -- that's pro-choice rhetoric. Huckabee has always and will always fight for the unborn, I'm not sure Thompson will.

I like Mike Huckabee because he didn't try to dodge questions about his Christian faith - even though none of the other candidates were asked about the details of their faith. He knew that he would be the subject of ridicule and abuse because of his beliefs and stood by them. Without anger. Without apology. Just as a humble man - as he says he is because of his Christian faith.

Club for Growth attacks him, not mentioning the 94 times he cut taxes but the few times that taxes were raised while he was Governor. They don't care that one of the programs he thought was important was funding insurance for poor children in his State. Apparently, there is no good reason to raise taxes.

I'm a lifelong Conservative. Since Reagan made his speech in support of Barry Goldwater. I was barely in my teens but I knew that these men made sense. Well, Mike Huckabee makes sense to me now that I have grown daughters of my own.

I trust Mike Huckabee. He doesn't falter or waiver. He stands on his beliefs and he knows who he is.

Not a word about Romney. Amazing! Oh, I forgot, he's a Mormon, and you all are real "Christians".

Rick~

I'm a Christian but I don't oppose Romney on grounds he is a Mormon. If this were a pastoral race, I'd take that into consideration. But we're electing a president...When he first came on the scene, I thought seriously about him. I think he, like anyone else, is entitled to change his mind on issues. But after a good hard look, I just don't believe him. He's a fake. Huckabee is genuine. There are many Mormons with integrity I'd be willing to support. But not this one. Don't take it so hard...

Nanellen, although I agree with your candidate of choice, Mike Huckabee, I disagree on whether a president's religion matters. If you're African American, in regards to Romeny, it matters a GREAT DEAL. And as a woman, it matters a lot to me. Any president who wants to lead this country that believes in a doctrine where Jesus Christ is the brother of Lucificer and where dark skin is "the mark of Cain," is just simply anti-American.

In regards to Rick's post above, dated November 8, 2007 10:35 PM, I'd like to say with all due respect, Mormonism is not a Christian religion. Mormonism is very clear on this:

MORMON DOCTRINE: HERE ARE JUST 2 OF THE HUNDREDS OF DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CHRISTIAN AND MORMONISM DOCTRINE: All the information below is not merely "opinion," and can easily be validated simply with a copy of the "book of mormon," the one the Romney holds dear to his heart, and of which he clearly intends to bring with him into the WHITE house.

1. Jesus and Lucifer are spirit-brothers.
Jesus was the first one born of heavenly parents, and Lucifer was a younger sibling. Jesus is referred to as Lucifer's, as well as our, elder brother in the pre-earth life (Ibid.; and Milton R. Hunter, The Gospel through the Ages, 15).

2. God curses certain individuals with dark skin.
The races are determined by how worthy individuals were prior to this mortal life. Blacks were not as faithful in their first estate. The Book of Mormon teaches that God cursed certain Israelite
American Indians with dark skin, and this was meant to keep them from interbreeding with their white brethren. This scripture also teaches that God blessed some who repented with white skin. Nothing concerning the revelation in 1978 to give "all worthy males members" the priesthood invalidates these beliefs (Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation 1:61-7; McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 527-8; Alma 3:6-9; 2 Ne. 5:21-4; and 3 Ne. 2:14-6).

Just because Mormons don't drink or smoke or cuss or any of those outward acts, doesn't make them Christian. Christian means much, much more than outwardly acts like that.

CORRECTION TO MY POST ABOVE: I meant to say "Lars Schroeder," and not Nanellen above. Sorry for the confusion.
