Chuck Norris Kicks It

Mike Huckabee's first ad is provoking all sorts of responses. Some say that it's not serious enough; others are just obsessed with the pop culture emination that is Chuck Norris.

The most salient fact to me is that the campaign purchased $60,000 worth of traffic -- not enough to really move votes on its own, but certainly enough to convince the media to play the ad for free, which, beginning on Fox News Sunday, it did.

The ad very gently addresses some of Huckabee's blind spots, including his record of support for in-state tuition for undocument immigrants. It also allows Iowans to put a face with the name -- ah, this is the guy they've been hearing about, and, huh, it turns out that he's a bit charming.

The ad worked with me. I'll vote for this guy. He's real.

put me in the the bag of this is not serious enough. for anybody so say this ad worked with me shows only ignorance. what does it do besides show he is a big joke.

with the little money he has, this is how he uses his precious air time?

I don't think iowans think immigration is a joke. this guy is the jester of the candidates. it just played into the notion that he is a joke.

i can't believe anybody would vote for someone running for president that has an ad with chukc norris in it making jokes??

romney, rudy, and mccain all make ads demosntrating their record and past experience. huck makes one with zero substance and chuck norris making jokes. and he thinks we should vote for him for president? probably because his record on immigraiton, taxes, and big government has so many holes in it he doesn't want to focus on it.

I personally enjoyed the ad, but it seems like it would appeal mostly to young people. Has a Republican ever won Iowa with the bulk of his support coming from young people? This ad is cool and reveals his charm, but it was wise to only buy 60,000 USD worth of air time. It's an ad for a candidate who is going to win.

For the record, Huck's weakest polling demographic in Iowa is the 18-35 crowd. This ad brought huge, priceless name recognition with that lot, and something to catch the attention of others. It's brilliant.

Talk about web traffic generation. The mastermind of this campaign strategy is about to oust the detested Karl Rove from his strategic pearch. This ad will be studied in pollitical science classes. Only a fool would think this was intended to adress policy. this is exactly what it purports to be...an ADvertisement introducing the 'personality' that is Mike Huckabee. His platform issues will be discussed later.

As Mike has said, both on air and at his website...it runs thanksgiving week and then he rolls out the traditional stuff...which I can gaurantee will still be a fresh retake on an old theme.

I find that the people who can't laugh at this are so angry and paranoid, they are a poster child for the image of an America that wants to operate out of a position of fear and division.

I don't know about anybody else, but I want to laugh again. I'm tired of wearing the sign of the elephant or mule. I want to wear the sign of the eagle, and I think Mike can take us there.

I checked out Chuck's weekly column and it's really good! I didn't know he wrote a weekly article-- and he actually defends Huckabee's various positions very well...
