Clinton's Mail From New Hampshire

21 Nov 2007 08:48 am

We've been angling to get our grubby little hands on some of the mail that Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign is sending to New Hampshire Democrats. It's been hard to do in part because the campaign uses consumer modeling to precisely target their mailings. Generally, confirmed supporters of other candidates don't get them.

The person who received this piece of mail is a middle-aged woman with children and grandchildren. The Clinton campaign identifies her as likely concerned about her grandchildren's future. Hence the bullet points about Clinton's economic positions:

Hillary Clinton looks very different in that picture than in other pictures I've seen of her.

I'd guess the stress of shifting from inevitable to evitable is starting to get to her a bit.

two things to say.

1. Hurray, I was in NH for the primary in 2004 and the campaigns seemed to be doing a terrible job keeping track of voters and what they cared about and who they backed. In the general election, my impression was that Kerry had excellent, motivated ground forces but their generals were hopelessly behind in targeting technology and the air war was a disaster. I hope the Dem candidate in 2004 does better.

2. Petey, you do your candidate a disservice by posting obnoxious comments knocking a rival's appearance on a blog like this. Snarky comments are great, but some of their potential power is lost when people know exactly where they're coming from.

Not so targeted... I received this campaign flier, live in NH. I'm also 30 yrs old and a male.

Just because a middle-aged woman received a flier with the picture of a middle-aged woman doesn't prove anything revolutionary.

Marc, you rang?

I received a similar mailing today with a younger woman, talking about natural disasters and the future for her kids. I am a self-employed 45-yr old male entrepreneur (w/o kids). The bullet points are:

* Conservation
* Innovation
* Accountability

To Observer:

Jesus man, get a life. Doesn't Hillary let you guys have a sense of humour? Or do you check that the door of her headquarters? It was a joke, son.
Lighten up.

I had a good chuckle at Petey's observation. He's not knocking Hillary's appearance -- the lay out of the mailer is ridiculous. So much for that fine-tuned machine.

re: "I had a good chuckle at Petey's observation. He's not knocking Hillary's appearance..."

If the picture was of your mother, would you think Petey was knocking Hillary's appearance?
Clinton Haters are liars.
And Petey's a petty punk.

"Clinton Haters are liars" may be my favorite irrational stereotyping comment from any post from this blog. No one can hate Clinton and be honest. Thank you for that entertainment, and for giving the haters enough respect to capitalize your reference to them.

Jan -- if it were my mother's picture with the name Hillary plastered next to it, I would have laughed even harder -- and so would she!
