Giuliani Is Endorsed By Pat Robertson

The Why

Both Giuliani and Robertson share an apocalyptic worldview about the clash with [radical] Islam; for Robertson, it is religious and based in biblical prophecy. For Giuliani, it is secular -- but given his 9/11 experiences, just as personal.

Evangelical Christians cite the war on terror as their chief policy concern, and it is not that surprising that Giuliani, who is more identified with an aggressive prosecution of that war than any other candidate, is doing well among evangelicals. It's not that they ignore his views on social issues; it's that they see the war on terror like he does: black-and-white, good-versus-evil, a struggle for the soul of civilization.

Robertson's legacy is greater than his influence these days, but remember: in 2000, it was John McCain's attacks against Robertson (and Jerry Falwell) that arguably doomed his campaign after South Carolina. Social conservatives may be warier of Robertson than they once were, but he is a pillar of their movement and is greatly responsible for legitimating their political activism.

And here's why this endorsement matters politically:

Unlike Paul Weyrich, who endorsed Mitt Romney yesterday, actual voters have heard of Pat Robertson. Actual voters in Iowa helped place second in the 1988 Iowa caucuses.

Robertson is the most significant conservative Christian to endorse, and his endorsement goes to Rudy.

What does that tell you about the state of the GOP race?

This development should be a warning for any dem who thinks nominating Hillary is a good idea. The republicans will stay unified behind a Giullini facing a Clinton, even though Rudy is pro-choice. Against HIllary, Rudy will be able to hold red turf and compete on blue turf. It is political suicide for us to nominate the most polarizing, republican-unifying candidate against someone like Rudy, regadless of what polls say now. We dems are walking into a big trap if we nominate HIllary.

I am not surprised that evangelical chief is endorsing a cross-dresser. Don't we all remember that how much conservatives are getting in caught bed with gays and cross-dressers off late. Remember Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, Foley, etc?

Giuliani is the suprise of 2008 and he's upended standard GOP presidential politics because of 3 related things (1) 9/11 (2) law & order (3) cultural conservatism (which is different from religious conservatism). Like Romney, he is an outsider but he's run a city bigger than MA for 2 terms while Romney left only after 1 term. Unlike Romney, he has not substantially changed his views for the presidential race. Finally, because of 9/11, his authoritarian views play better in the South than whether or not he is religious. The election will be won or lost in the midwest..OH is toxic for the GOP but MI is bad for Dems..Guiliani may hold NV and possibly tip MN/WI so long as he hammers on taxes, indepedent & dem leaners disspointment with Congressional dems and Hilary's double speak on illegal immigration.

Disaffection from the far right has always been the only thing that could keep Rudy out of the White House. Long ago it was said that Hillary is unbeatable for the nomination but unwinnable in the general election while Rudy is unbeatable in the general election but unwinnable for the nomination. Rudy vs Hillary in debates will look like a clown stomping.

This endorsment has nothing to do with radical Islam. McCain, Romney, and Thompson all would have been just as tough as Giuliani. It all comes down to the race being between Giuliani and Romney, no morals vs. Mormonism. He chose no morals. Robertsons decision was all based on his vitriol towards Mormonism. Conservatives will not unite around Giuliani. I, for one, will not vote for him. And for me it is not because of Abortion or gay marriage, I just think he is just Bush redux and, unlike Bush, not a good person. Rough judgement to make? probably, but this is a big deal.

Pat Robertson of course has huge cred with the population at large. This might do Rudy a bit of good with extreme right evangelical christians although I suspect not a lot since the gilt is off the Robertson gingerbread. As for the general a bunch of Hillary haters are claiming that a Robertson endorsement of Giuliani somehow helps him beat Clinton. Since one of the major handicaps the Republicans face is a suspicion that they are dominated by the Christian right I don't quite follow that logic. But the anti Clinton crowd are getting increasingly desperate to find any argument they can, even one as shaky as this. I don't think endorsements are that important in the main, this might help Rudy marginally but it hasn't changed much really.

Robertson is irrelevant and nominating Rudy Giuliani would be a huge mistake for the GOP. If voters are faced with electing two liberals, why choose liberal light? And Rudy's got more personal baggage than Hillary to boot!

Michael Barone writes of a recent conservative focus group he attended and relates how they quickly relaxed their opinions of Mitt Romney's mormonism as they learned more about his business acumen, his political leadership and lifelong staunch family values.

Polls in Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan and South Carolina are early proof that little known Mitt Romney can compete against super-star Giuliani and Romney's the only republican who can trump the Clinton's in every way during the general election.

It was just reported that Democrats prefer to run against Romney over any other GOP contender. I'm convinced that's more than spin, it's a liberal lie. Rudy means defeat in 08. Romney offers the GOP a legitimate chance to win the White House for 8 more years. Let's unite and nominate him.

I am an Evangelical Christian, and I have supported the 700 Club. No more! I am appalled that Pat Robertson would support Rudy. I have been a Republican for the past 12 years due to my positons on life and marriage. If Rudy is nominated, I will switch parties. I would vote over Hillary Clinton over Rudy. John McCain is more representative of my values, and Robertson should have stayed on the side lines. I think Sam Brownback has a lot more credibility than Robertson. I think this could ulitmately back fire on Rudy. I hope so. I am sure there are many other Christians who feel the same. Robertson may have thought this was the right political thing to do, but he may see other ramifications with no more money, ever, from me or any other Christian who holds my views.

I hate to say it as a Dem, but the guy can come across as pretty straight and likable.

Guiliani's decisions killed more than 100 firefighters in WTC. He and Robertson need to answer four key questions about his handling of the broken radios:

* Why was nothing done to improve FDNY radio performance for seven years after a clear need was demonstrated in the 1993 World Trade Center attack?

* When new radios were finally ordered, why did the city block other companies besides Motorola from bidding on the contract?

* Once Motorola was given the contract, why did its cost jump from $1.4 million to $14 million?

* Why were these new radios never tested?

Blood is on Guiliani's hands and he still organizes $ 9-11 fundraisers.

I am a conservative, far-right pro-lifer and I'm supporting Rudy. Frankly, I'm surprised by Robertson's endorsement this early as I am sure there are many conservatives who support Rudy but are waiting to say so until other Reps start dropping out. Like it or not, there isn't another Republican that can beat the dems, except maybe McCain. Rudy's leadership abilities, his no-nonsense style and refusal to put up with dems' bullying are a breath of fresh air, plus his commitment to appoint strict constructionists like Scalia, Thomas and Roberts seals the deal for me. By the way, anyone who claims they are Christian and would vote for Hillary Clinton or do anything to propel her to victory is very confused to say the least. In the end, it's about securing America and having the real chance to stop the horific act of abortion.

As a pro-life activist for twenty-five years, I am also supporting Rudy. The public does not want another Bush clone in the White House. They are looking for something different and Rudy is the only Republican who fits the bill.

Former Senator Fred Thompson is the only candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don’t change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.

I know many Republicans and conservatives that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as conservatives, and never will. Millionaire Mitt Romney is a Republican-in-name-only (RINO) that simply has everything else and nothing to do. “I guess I’ll just try to buy the presidency”. The White House isn’t for sale! He has flip-flopped on almost every issue in the last few years! Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our country-nice picture huh?

However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if that’s even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this country.. A little of the good old days of faith, federalism and family would do well for this country. If a conservative runs as a conservative, he will win!

Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a nation, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is?

Fred Thompson is a sober, steely-eyed, non-excitable type of individual. Because he does not regularly exude emotions or a palpable enthusiam does not in any way mean he is not completely committed to accomplishing his goals and defending his ideals. He will not give frivolous rah-rah types of speeches- but so what? Does that mean he is somehow less committed to accomplishing his goals, and disinterested in rallying people to the causes he champions? Of course not. It's a shame in this day and age that too many of us are so hung up on superficial personality traits rather than on substantive ones that really reflect the character of an individual.

I liken Fred's personality to that of a sheriff in a small town off the beaten path- quiet and low-key, deliberative and determined- but in the end, he will ulimtately get his man. Fred has an inate talent for making complex issues very understandable to average Americans in plain English, and he doesn't engage in doublespeak. You could really not ask for a better set of qualities in a President- I think Fred in many respects is a throwback to some of the best politicans our country has had in decades past.

IMHO, if enough people aren't interested in a person of Fred's caliber because of his stoical personality (which is also tempered with a good-natured self-effacing humor, if people cared to take notice), that's simply a sad commentary on today's cynical and self-absorbed day and age. And if we're going to pick a president based upon solely upon how much outward "emotion" they show in public (which largely is an act) or how much they say they "want" or "deserve" the job (which is just self-ambition), we will reap what we sow.

If one believes in God, one must believe that only he has the right to take away life, since he is the only one who can give it back. If one believes in God, by his very definition he is in control of the universe. Therefore if you believe in God (as the people who Robertson is supposed to persuade) then you realize that voting for anyone Pro abortion is a personal sin on your own soul.

You give the good name that God has given you (a follower of Christ, but this applies to anyone who actually believes in a monotheistic Judeo-Christian God) to someone who who is an anathema. This is a total insult to everything you should stand for. In the battle of lesser evils your faith should give you the advantage, knowing that God will control who rises to power according to Paul in Romans.

If God is in control and you vote for evil you then sin on your own head. Obviously if you don't think that God controls the world then Pat Robertson isn't going to make a tiny difference to you.

Oh and rodan that was an actual stone, a verbal correction can be a benediction.

claim to be "true christians" I am a GOD fearing, church going christian, They best way I know to advance my hopes for this country to support Rudy Giuliani, He will not only address this crucial issues of our time, but for those of you who are single issue voters he will appoint justices like Roberts, Scalia, Alito, & Thomas.

What makes Giuliani the one to support is that fact that he can WIN....
Rudy is running for president not pope !!

So you say your God fearing? Do you believe that who ever God wants to be in power will be in power? I will do no different in a Hillery Clinton presidency then I would in a George W Bush presidency. I personally see my job as fisher of men not maker of kings. If God is charge how can you fear who will win? Vote how God leads you and render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's (in a democracy thats taxes voting and military service) and unto God the things that are Gods (which does include the fact that we represent him

And while it is wrong to hate gay people and abortionists we in now way can justify sin, remembering that all sins are equal in the eyes of God and every sin is mortal. So I think we can vote for a repentant sinner no matter his sin Lying is just as bad as murder no sin makes the person unworthy of our attention compassion and love. But Rudy of all people is an unrepentant and unless you would stake the lives of millions on your faith that he will change from what hes been all these years, then I can not condone nor understand a Christian voting for a man who is a lesser evil.

I just want to pop in and give my 100% support for Ron Paul.

Ghouliani is a mobster backed murderer who likes to fill potholes in NYC with the ashes and bones of 911 first responders. Go look it up! It's true.

And Pat Robertson... well, he wants to nuke half the planet because people don't like Israel, the 51st state of the Union.

This Israel first crap is sickening. We've got lawmakers saying we should microchip citizens, cameras everywhere, and insane maniacs like Rudy poo and Pat Mcrobberson who want to tear this world apart over some religious bad blood that hasn't worked out too well in 2000 years.

Everyone in America who is freaking out over Islamo-whatever need to calm down, read the constitution, and then go google Ron Paul.

Reacting with fear and voilence to stop fear and violence will put this world into a tailspin. We can be a brave country that fights ignorance, stays strong, and does what's right WITHOUT giving up what made us great. A free country works and is the only way to go. Ron Paul 2008!

Well what would you expect? Robertson has never been a true conservative. He is pro-gun control, against capital punishment, Would allow aborthions in the first trimester, believes in homosexual partnerships, has in the past supported massive social programs and high taxes.
Supports radical environmental views and social reforms.
Giuliani my find that Pat Robertson is more of an anchor around the neck as many Jews, Catholics and other Christians don't like Robertson.

Look, I'm no super fan of Giuliani, but the actual harm he would inflict on our values simply doesn't exist. We won't be advancing many values issues under his presidency, but we certainly won't lose any ground, very much unlike what happens if any Democrat wins the Oval Office. Guaranteed that Justice Stevens steps down under the next president. And Hillary/Obama nominates another Ginsberg. Court goes from 5-4 conservative to 5-4 liberal and gay marriage is instituted, partial birth abortions are allowed again and a whole host of real irreparable harm to our culture takes place.

This is real, permanent harm, folks, not scare tactics. Some say let American values fall under Hillary and when voters come to their senses they'll elect a true conservative to rise from the ashes in 8 years and undo all of the corrosive harm to our values that we've witnesses and will have to endure. Sorry to burst your bubble if you believe that, but once she's in office and obliterates moral decency and God from society it will take decades for the public to fully perceive the harm and more decades to reverse the cultural deterioration if it is even possible. What gives us the right or authority to play God with the US and force a Sodom and Gomorrah destruction of our country?

I'm also a fiscal conservative, and to tell you the truth Mike Huckabee scare the you-know-what out of me! His tax policy and spending priorities are closer to FDR and LBJ than Ronald Reagan. Should I threaten to bolt the GOP if he is the nominee? I feel just as passionate about fiscal conservatism as social conservatives feel about their differences with Rudy. We only succeed as a party when we are a big tent party. And abandoning the GOP to teach it a lesson while we doom our children and grand-children to a Hillary/Obama legacy is the height of selfish arrogance.

I am personally so upset over the mere thought of Hillary and Bill Clinton getting back into the White House, I would even vote for Larry the Carpenter... Of course one advantage is that their return would give them the opportunity to return the White House Valuables they took when they left before... Think about this , do we really want Bill Clinton lose in the White house again? Imagine Slick Willie on the prowl in the White HOuse again with no responsibilities
As for me, my money, my time and my vote, I will actively be supporting anybody but Hillary!!!!

Obviously, America has gone through the looking glass. Nothing makes sense anymore. Up is down and down is up. You can't put your trust in anything or anybody. I think that the common, working-class, christians - the ones that make the wheels of this country turn - have got to decide for themselves who they will look to as a leader. Personally, I am looking to, and contributing to, Huckabee. I fully believe that it's way past time that we Americans take back our power with the pencil, lever, touch-screen, or whatever voting method you use and put OUR leader in the White House.

The more I hear from Giuliani and Romney, the more convinced I am that McCain is the best candidate that the Republicans can field against whatever candidate the Democrats put up.

His track record over many, many years as a conservative leader is one that comes closer to statesmanship than any other in the race. He has class, he's consistant in what he believes (even his misguided Immigration bill), he is the most knowledgeabgle of ALL the candidates on foregin affairs, and what you see is what you get with this guy.

Hugh Hewitt Tues. was jazzed that Paul Wey. endorsed Mitt. I wonder how many conservs like Hugh will think and feel about Pat's endorsement. There are some Christians who will listen to Pat over this. I am already supporting Rudy but perhaps reiterating Rudy's 12 Promises and his stands which he repeated in NH the other day: 1. nominating jurists like Scalia 2. winning the war and using the term Islamofascism (btw-today CAIR was furious that Pat and Rudy were hooking up since Pat used the above term to trash jihadism) 3. cutting taxes 4. dealing with the borders, ID's and dealing with those crimes there on the borders forthwith will open up the avenue to more endorsements. It is now time for Rudy to use some TV ads pushing his agenda to the angst of the Dems and even some Purist Pubs.

Robertson is not endorsing Rudy because they agree. Rudy is for guy civil unions, he is for abortion. So why is He supporting Rudy? All the republicans say they will be tough on terror. So lets look at the facts. Who are the two republicans that could win the nomination? Rudy and Mitt. Why would he go for Rudy over Mitt? He is afraid that if Mitt wins people will see that Mormons are not a cult, but just regular people. The truth is Mormons could actual have something to offer the American people.

My heart fell to the floor as I watched Pat Robertson, endorse Rudy ( a candidate who clearly doesn't stand with God on many of the critical issues!)
Pat, you of all people should know that this nations protection will come when we our obedient to God's way of doing things. When we disobey, then God could lift His hand of protection from us. PRAISE HIM FOR HIS GRACE! One with God is majority - and we Christians must stand firm on His Word no matter what anyone in the whole world thinks, says, or does! I have sown seed into CBN for years, but I must relocate those offerings to better soil. This is a wake-up call for Christians to really pray for Godly discernment.
