Boston Globe Endorses Barack Obama, John McCain

15 Dec 2007 08:03 pm

Obama, Here:

It is true that all the other Democratic contenders have more conventional resumes, and have spent more time in Washington. But that exposure has tended to give them a sense of government’s constraints. Obama is more open to its possibilities.

And McCain:

McCain’s views differ from those of this editorial page in a variety of ways. Yet McCain’s honesty has served him well. As a lawmaker and as a candidate, he has done more than his share to transcend partisanship and promote an honest discussion of the problems facing the United States. He deserves the opportunity to represent his party in November’s election.

Knd of funny that this comes down as we are all waiting for the Register endorsement. This is a nice pick up for Obama. New Hampshire has been trending in his direction really fast and I wonder if it may become his forewall before this is all said and done. Many have said his message is tailor-made for that state.

All:

Where are the idiot/fat brother of HRC? Remember him? After GWBush came to the White House, Jan. 2001, this guy asked the White House people if he could stay for a week or two till he found a place? What a jackass? Where is he?

I want the Press to focus on HRC/The Clinton Machine. All documents. All family ties. All must be presented to the voters. Everything.

Support Obama.

Hey, RKA - that was my out of the box idea about a week ago - the notion about New Hampshire as a firewall for Obama.

Everyone thought I was nuts, lol. Welcome to the asylum.

I can't help but contrast McCain's and Hillary's endorsement by the DMR with the endorsment by Obama by the Boston Globe.

Despite the fact that you have a journalist writing the endorsement, there is absolutely no way to hide the fact that Obama is a lightweight and lacks the experience necessary to run the country. All the Boston Globe were able to highlight was Obama's "intuitive sense of the wider world". And all this because he lived in Indonesia when he was 6 years old. In touting his leadership, they pointed to his position on the nuclear proliferation treaty. Huh?

Contrast with McCain's and Hillary's endorsement where they talk about the achievements and the accomplishements of both politicians. If I were Obama, I wouldn't be seeking more endorsements from the Editorial Boards - it'd be too embarassing even when he gets it.

Ralph,
You are talking way too much sense here. Obama supporters do not like being told that their candidate has zero experience.

I have tried telling this to people and all i have heard back is that he was a Constitutional law professor who was equally liked by people on the left and the right and who did community serivce for disenfranchised people. People seem to like the fact that he has no experience - in fact that has been the mantra of their campaign. He has better judgement than all pols in DC.

When i point out that he was wrong about predicting the failure of the surge and if this indicated in any way his sense of judgement, i get an answer along the lines of " So did every Democrat including Clinton". I dont really have a response to that !

What does this all basically show ? The Democratic party has no real leadership. It has been like this since the late 60's (other than of course the Bill Clinton era)

The best candidate in the Democratic field (in my view Joe Biden) is not going any where, while the most inexperienced person has the momentum going in his favor. Clinton is more qualified but loathed in the party.

This could very well shape out to be an Obama vs McCain race in the end.
