Ellen Malcolm And EMILY's List

31 Dec 2007 04:42 pm

It's interesting how much scrutiny the Edwards campaign is getting over a 527 run by a former campaign manager....

Well, EMILY's List's Ellen Malcolm was one of the earliest major endorsers of Hillary Clinton....serves as a national co-chair of her presidential campaign...still serves as president of EMILY's List....even as EMILY's List is running an independent expenditure campaign in Iowa on Clinton's behalf.

Not that there's anything wrong with that....but the ties between Malcolm and the Clinton campaign are provably more tight than the ties between Baldick and John Edwards (although Edwards has taken to calling Baldick "a guy who used to work for me," which, while true, is a little too cute...)

Malcolm has said that she's created a firewall between herself and the independent expenditure efforts.

GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Whether or not it's legal, it stinks to high heaven.

I don't get it, Marc. The obvious difference is that Edwards has made continually railing against 527s and other such "special interests" as the core problem of the American political system the central message in his campaign. Obama's harping on this issue is about Edwards' hypocrisy, not the inherent rightness or wrongness of close ties between campaigns and 527s.

All of which you know, much more clearly and better than most of us reading the blog, which is why I don't understand the point of this post. Still, love the blog.

On a separate note the Michelle Obama speech on CSPAN of moments ago was very good and I was impressed with the number of women supporters who were there and responded well to the speech.

BROOKLYN, IOWA — The longtime Republican mayor of this tiny heartland town will stun his neighbors — and send shockwaves that will reach his countrymen in the real Brooklyn — when he breaks ranks with the GOP to vote for Sen. Barack Obama at the Iowa caucuses this Thursday. But he did think many eyes would be following Rickard as he entered the Democratic, rather than Republican, caucus.
“He is very well respected here, so people will certainly talk about it,” he said.

I hear there are a lot of these people all over Iowa...wonder if the polls are catching them? This may be the real surprise come caucus night

Troy pretty much said what I came here to say.

The longtime Republican mayor of this tiny heartland town will stun his neighbors...when he breaks ranks with the GOP to vote for Sen. Barack Obama.

Given Obama's views on Social Security, labor unions, and healthcare, it's hardly surprising he's picking up some GOP support.

The obvious difference is that Edwards has made continually railing against 527s and other such "special interests" as the core problem of the American political system the central message in his campaign.

Put differently, you could say "the obvious difference is that Hillary Clinton never saw anything wrong with having her campaign co-chair also run a 527 and to generally claim every special interest endorsement she could.

So when Obama raises this issue, he's obviously pointing out that Edwards never should have raised it in the first place, because it forced Obama to swear off special interest money to create the perception of an alternative to Clinton."
