First Look: Romney's Second Immigration Ad

29 Dec 2007 10:29 am

Mitt Romney will air a second ad drawing distinctions with John McCain on immigration, campaign aides said last night. Here's an exclusive preview:

The ad dispenses with the friendly "both good men" sentence and gets right into the details. It's not a negative ad -- McCain's the one who dropped the "phony bomb"-- but some of the details are misleading.

McCain did not favor extending Social Security benefits to illegal immigrants -- only that, when a certain percentage of them were given legal status after paying a penalty, that they then become eligible. The vote in question would have permitted regularized immigrants to claim Social Security credit for some work they did while illegal -- not exactly the same thing as extending benefits to illegal immigrants. And before he ran for president, Romney was more congenial to the approach he now excoriates, and had nice things to say about McCain's comprehensive reform proposals.

Remember, these ads aren't designed to pull folks away from McCain -- they're designed to keep folks comfortable with Romney.

GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY: "I'm Mitt Romney and I approved this message."

ANNOUNCER: "Mitt Romney and John McCain on immigration.

"McCain championed a bill to let every illegal immigrant stay in America permanently.

"He even voted to allow illegal immigrants to collect Social Security.

"Mitt Romney said 'no' to driver's licenses for illegal immigrants.

"'No' to tuition breaks for illegal immigrants, and he authorized his State Police to enforce federal immigration law.

"On illegal immigration, there's a big difference."

Only Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson and Ron Paul have the right credentials, to stop the disasterous period of red ink. Alas, we cannot trust any Democrats to stop the illegal alien invasion, because their pandering for votes

Taxpayers must stand with any official, who is willing to go that extra mile; no matter the political consequences. Very few politicians have the backbone to consumate the majority will of THE PEOPLE. They have become panderers to corporate and globalist open-border, unfair free-traders favors. America can no longer afford the $2 trillion dollar a year, to support the pariah contractors and businesses that hire illegal immigrants. They themselves receive all the profit, and the taxpayers gets the bill for hospitals, education and the massive prison appropriations. With between 12 to 20 million illegal aliens already here, with another estimated 17 million turning up on our shores by 2010, we are forced by federal law to subsidise these low income families. Taxpayers fall for this trick all the time, because the government doesn't tell us about food stamps, subsidised housing and a whole cornicopia of other free goodies. Its so easy for the citizen-taxpayer to carry the burden of cost's while the employer walks away. Free trade entities are behind the Bush administration unfettered movement of illegal cheap, foreign labor which is undermining our citizen workers wages. Most U.S. citizens have no concept of tomorrow, with outsourcing of jobs and business to foreign lands, along with the import of millions of people who can't speak our language and most have no wish to assimulate into our society. All but a few of our presidential contenders are not multi-millionaires, that show little interest in proposing laws protect our country from a globalist agenda? Both political parties are to blame, along with the american people for allowing this International globalist plan to continue. Our Industrial base is withering, unless you prefer a service nation? Big business must be held accountable for the destruction of our living standards. Hopefully, THE PEOPLE will show their intentions, starting with the Iowa Caucases and the upcoming New Hampshire Primaries! Are we going to have more of the same, with a depletion of our wealth and an erosion of our society. Or are we going to have fair free-trade and our national borders sealed for security and our prosperity?

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Criminals did NOT build America; Citizens and LEGAL immigrants built it. Illegal Aliens and Immigration is NOT the same thing. 80% of the American people want an end to anarchy! This is NOT a Democrat, Republican, Independent issue. It's an American Issue.

Illegal aliens are criminals, those who hire them are criminals and those who aid-and-abet them are criminals.

Illegal aliens in America have NO rights. We are required by law to arrest and prosecute, deport them. (Title 8 U.S. Code) To report illegal aliens call the DHS National Hotline 1 866 DHS 2ICE. (1-866-347-2523)

No, matter your political party affiliation, and setting aside your thoughts on issues. We all need to remember what it is to be an American Citizen. We need to make sure our elected representatives obey their Oath of Office and keep their Oath of Allegiance. See http://tinyurl.com/2znnvl Know whom you are voting for.

What should be the issue is the persistence to call things what they are not. In this case "immigration" at least as how it relates to Mexico and those [CAFTA] nations following Mexico's lead:

The exportation of Mexico's so-called immigrants were both instructed and forced by Mexico's central government.

As early as 1981, nearly simultaneous with Ronald Reagan's agreeing, in Cancun, with Miguel de la Madrid for Mexico to export its surplus population (Mexico could no longer feed itself) to the U.S. in exchange for the U.S. rebuilding Mexico's agricultural infrastructure (the imposition of U.S. agribusinesses), the Mexican Government mandated its version of the so-called ESL course "Follow Me to America."

The course taught not only the remitting of U.S. dollars "captured" (for the dole-outs in Mexico of pesos) and even the sacking of U.S. schools, clinics, hospitals, etc, but also the attaining of U.S. citizenships and, once attained, the vigilance required by "Mexicans Abroad" of the bulletins of the Mexican Consulates and their approved list of proxy organizations on just who and what in U.S elections to vote for.

After the signing of NAFTA, the Mexican government drastically reformed it own laws, in 1996, to recognize dual citizenship of its nationals with the U.S. (only).

Such votes are intended by Mexican government to be owned by Mexican government. The ownership is easily enforced given Mexican government's also requiring the application for Mexico's---second---Matricular ID of its "Mexicans Abroad", as instructed, arriving stateside and to the Mexican consulates.

Until such information as the applications require for the---second---Matricular ID, the Mexican Government itself does not know of their being stateside much less, and more importantly to them, just where the so-called immigrants extended families reside in Mexico, where their land deeds are, pension funds, school enrollments, clinical qualifications, etc. and even utilities accounts.

All subject to the historic extortion of Mexican government (known in Mexico as "irregularities").

In reality, even "Path to Citizenship" is nothing more than "Path to Dual U.S. Citizenship of Mexico."

"Immigration"!?!

Ambinder is correct, in the semantic sense. Romney should have stated, "McCain wanted to give former illegal aliens SS benefits, but only after declaring them to be legal workers as part of the massive amnesty scheme that he hatched by collaborating with Teddy Kennedy". Or similar.

And, there's a separate scheme that might give SS benefits to former illegal aliens who'd gone home, without having been legalized under a massive amnesty. There might even be something in the fine print that would let them get those benefits will remaining here illegally. The last post I did on that was in January, and I don't know what's happened since then.

Romney is referring to the final immigration bill that included Z-Visas which would have allowed illegal immigrants to stay in the United States permanently. The Ad is totally accurate. If championing illegal immigration were an Olympic event, McCain would be fighting it out with Huckabee for the Gold Medal.

MA - McCain did not favor extending Social Security benefits to illegal immigrants -- only that, when a certain percentage of them were given legal status after paying a penalty, that they then become eligible

Correct in a word-parsing sense. After McCain gave out his Amnesty, technically, all those illegal aliens would no longer be illegal, nor the 17 million extra family members coming in to get benefits. So Romney, semantically, could be challenged on "giving benefits to illegals" because McCain would change all their status with a stroke of his pen.

Realistically, we all know Romney's charge is correct and accurate.

McCain is all for socializing the costs of illegal mass immigration into the country while privatizing profits to his fatcat supporters. Huckabee too learned in Arkansas the huge amounts of money he could get from Agribiz outfits like Tyson Foods if he came down for Open Borders. The Huckster's guising Amnesty and scholarships for foreign vs. native children as "Christian compassion" was just Huckster's icing on the cake.

**********************
One other area I wish the press would explore would be if John McCains capture by the enemy and his suffering 4 decades ago was so spectacular, so militarily laudable - as he always references it as being - why was he passed over for selection to Admiral? Why did the military not think as highly of McCain's record as he and his followers do? Both his grandfather and father were not just Admirals, they were 4-Star Admirals at the pinnacle of Navy leadership.
Other POWs had a "leg up" on promotion. Many became admirals.
Why not McCain?
His bad temper? Arrogance? Questions on Integrity and being loyal to his word? Leadership ability?

Read the following Annenberg fact check for Romney's ad:

Enough said.

The subject of illegal immigration touches a nerve in this country. Code words such as "amnesty" and "illegal aliens" are used effectively to taint presidential candidates. Any Republican or Democrat making a case for immigration reform seems to be vilified. We need to hear how these candidates will implement their immigration policy.

The article that Sean cited was excellent.

Finally, the new immigration bill called the STRIVE Act deals with three main issues. They are border enforcement, guest workers, and a pathway to citizenship. Undocumented immigrants will face more hurdles before they can achieve legal status. I want a President that leads by example and not by fear.
