Too Many Ads, Not Enough Ads

03 Dec 2007 07:54 pm

Radio Iowa's Kay Henderson watched the news and found herself saturated.

At the end of the Des Moines’ NBC affiliate’s six o’clock newscast (the WHO TV newscast break after sports):

1. Clinton ad (the “it’s the economy stupid” ad: -- all white people, lots of seniors)

2. Huckabee ad (the faith ad; embraces a black child in a classroom)

3. Obama ad (the bio ad)

4. Romney ad (the experience ad; all white people)

5. Edwards ad (the generations ad; all white women, plus two kids)

6. Fred Thompson (the bio ad)

Anchors come back on screen to quickly say goodbye.

7. Clinton economy ad again

I am just watching Hardball now, and the political roundtable had a guy from NH (a political reporter). He said it:

In the end, people who do not "like" Hillary will vote for her.

There it is in black and white. The key reason why HRC will win the primaries and the general election.

Voters will squeeze their noses and vote for her.

That is the Machine.

Support Obama. Make Edwards' voters make Obama as their second choice.

I'm guessing Robert Reich is off the Clinton's Christmas card list this year. In his blog, he just today posted an article called "Why is HRC stooping so low?"

He says, "While I’m as hard-boiled as they come about what’s said in campaigns, I just don’t think Dems should stoop to this."

On Obama and social security: "She’s simply not telling the truth."

He also takes Clinton to task for her criticisms of Obama’s health care plan.

On her criticism of Obama’s courage: "HRC’s campaign, in contrast, is singularly lacking in conviction about anything."

eorse - I saw Hardball, and must have missed the comment you mentioned. What I saw was a poll showing her incredibly low numbers in likeability, and Matthews and panel seemingly in agreement that was really bad for Clinton.

I'm currently watching Abrams, and he's flipping out over the Clinton campaign's expose of Obama's kindergarten record, lol.

Lol, they just showed a Clinton press release on the air, saying "In kindergarten, Obama wrote an essay, 'I want to be President'."

It just gets funnier and funnier.

Actually its impressive. How many of us could spell 'president' in kindergarten? I'm not sure I could spell 'I' that young. And he's writing essays? He must be Doogie Houser smart.

I feel for the unfortunate people of Iowa...I really do. After all, they get to cast a vote that actually counts. Who would want to do such a thing? That's why us Floridians made it so where we just vote for practice - not to affect the outcome in that crazy primary. So much more fun...

I'm from New Hampshire and if the people in Iowa don't like the ad blitz, maybe they should stop fighting to have the first anything in the nation.

btw, I only know about Clinton since I'm a Clinton supporter. But in every New Hampshire ad, she uses New Hampshire people, who are our neighbors from around the state. For example, I live in Nashua and I know most of the people who would pop up in an ad shot at a Nashua townhall. So, knowing Clinton does this, I enjoy when the ads come up, because I'm looking for Nashua events, and then for myself or for neighbors.
In a state like ours (and I would assume it would be the same in Iowa), we have actually known each other for... well, generations. Seeing people I know in the ads makes the ads pretty fun, as far as I'm concerned.

Also, re: "Radio Iowa's Kay Henderson watched the news and found herself saturated."

We ARE NOT "saturated." These are just ad buys.

If we weren't watching these ads, we'd be watching other ads not related to politics. Me, I like politics better than most of the other crap that's advertised on a daily basis.

imo, Kay Henderson should get a grip on the PRIVILEGE Iowa has, instead of whining about being a journalist right in the middle of the action.
