Clinton Campaign Strikes Back...

19 Jan 2008 07:04 pm

... at critics (like MSNBC's Chris Matthews), by sending around a compilation of expectation setting quotations. Two of them:

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews – ‘It just seems to me if Hillary Clinton wins this one… she’s back in the lead big-time.’ “It just seems to me if Hillary Clinton wins this one, after all the hoopla and hopes in some quarters about Barack Obama winning two in a row… that she’s back in the lead big-time.” [MSNBC Hardball, 1/18/08]
Obama National Feild Director Temo Figueroa 'The Nevada election is going to come down to: Whoever gets the endorsement of the Culinary Workers Union, more than likely, is going to win Nevada' [Politico, 1/10/08]

By the way -- the AP, so far, still reports that Obama won 12 to Clinton's 13.

Chris matthews doesn't have an objective bone in his body: he can't stand to see Hillary do well.
He can't stand to see bill be effective.
He accuses them of setting expectations low but then he tries to reset the expectations. Tonight announcing a hillary win he acted as though he was at a funeral.
The paula abdul of politics: a loon.

Marc you are wrong AP reports that Obama won the Delegate battle....Below is the story

Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama split the spoils in the Nevada caucuses Saturday night, a race marred by late charges of dirty politics. John McCain and Mike Huckabee dueled for victory in a hard-fought Republican primary in South Carolina.

"I guess this is how the West was won," Clinton told cheering supporters in Las Vegas. She captured the popular vote, but Obama edged her out for national convention delegates at stake, taking 13 to her 12.

If the Democrats had co-front-runners, the Republicans had none, and South Carolina looked like the place that might at least begin winnowing the field.

Interviews with voters leaving their polling places indicated that McCain and Huckabee appeared to be dividing the Republican vote evenly. As was his custom, McCain was winning the independent vote.

South Carolina was the second half of a GOP campaign doubleheader, coming after Nevada's caucuses.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was the winner there, rolling up roughly half the vote in a multi-candidate field.

Obama, who won the kickoff Iowa caucuses less than a month ago, issued a statement that said he had conducted an "honest, uplifting campaign ... that appealed to people's hopes instead of their fears."

His campaign manager, David Plouffe, was far more pointed in a written statement that accused the Clinton campaign of "an entire week's worth of false, divisive attacks designed to mislead caucus-goers and discredit the caucus itself."

Whatever the hard feelings, Clinton told supporters they would fade by the fall general election campaign. "We will all be united in November," she said, as the crowd chanted "HRC, HRC."

Interviews with Democratic caucus-goers indicated that Clinton fashioned her victory by winning about half the votes cast by whites, and two-thirds support from Hispanics, many members of a Culinary Workers Union that had endorsed Obama. He won about 80 percent of the black vote.

Obama, the most viable black presidential candidate in history, had pinned his Nevada hopes on an outpouring of support from the 60,000-member union. But it appeared that turnout was lighter than expected at nine caucuses established along the Las Vegas Strip, and some attending held signs reading, "I support my union. I support Hillary."

Democrats looked next to South Carolina to choose between Obama, the most viable black candidate in history, and Clinton, seeking to become the first woman to occupy the White House. The state is home to thousands of black voters, who are expected to comprise as much as half the Democratic electorate.

After that, the race goes national, with more than 20 states holding primaries and caucuses on Feb. 5, with 1,678 national Democratic convention delegates at stake.

Romney was not expecting much success in South Carolina. The former Massachusetts governor learned of his Nevada victory when his wife Ann announced it on the public address system of his chartered jet. "Keep 'em coming. Keep 'em coming," he said.

Romney had campaigned for months to win early contests in Iowa and New Hampshire, and his candidacy was in trouble when he lost both. He retooled his appeal to the voters in the days leading to the Michigan primary, though, focusing on the economy and trumpeting his experience as a businessman.

En route to Florida, he presented reporters with his ambitious economic stimulus plan, $233 billion in all. It includes tax rebates as well as tax cuts for individuals, as well as tax cuts for businesses.

Nevada Republicans said the economy and illegal immigration were their top concerns, according to a survey of voters entering the caucuses. Romney led among voters who cited both issues.

Mormons gave Romney about half his votes. He is hoping to become the first member of his faith to win the White House. Alone among the Republican contenders, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas aired television ads in Nevada.

Nearly complete returns showed Romney winning more than 50 percent of the vote, with Paul and McCain far behind vying for second. Former Thompson and Huckabee trailed.

Romney also won at least 17 of the 31 Republican National Convention delegates at stake. McCain and Paul won at least four apiece, while Thompson and Huckabee each won two. California Rep. Duncan Hunter and Rudy Giuliani each won one delegate - the first of the campaign for the former New York mayor.

Nevada offered more delegates - 31 versus 24 - but far less appeal to the Republican candidates than South Carolina, a primary that has gone to the party's eventual nominee every four years since 1980.

That made it a magnet for Thompson, who staked his candidacy on a strong showing, as well as for Romney, McCain and Huckabee.

McCain, a former Vietnam prisoner of war, appealed to a large population of military veterans in South Carolina, and stressed his determination to rein in federal spending as he worked to avenge a bitter defeat in the 2000 primary.

Huckabee reached out to evangelical Christian voters, hoping to rebound from a string of disappointing showings since his victory in the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses.

Romney campaigned on a pledge to help restore the state's economy, much as he did in winning Michigan.

In South Carolina, the economy and immigration were cited as top issues, with more than half the voters saying illegal immigrants should be deported. Conservatives and white evangelical voters turned out in heavy numbers, according to the polling place interviews.

Survey data in both states were from polls conducted for The Associated Press and the television networks by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.

South Carolina primary voters coped with equipment difficulty and bad weather. Election officials in the area around Myrtle Beach brought out paper ballots after some electronic voting machines failed to work properly. Snow fell in the northern part of the state, which has little snow removal equipment.

Is calling Chris Matthews a Hillary critic really fair? He gets excited and hyperventilates a lot, takes whatever sense he has of the moment and hypes it to extremes. Also really likes analogies to old movies and such. That makes him a partisan and a sexist? Please. He's just kind of crazy.

I am sri lankan live in Switzerland. When I see the way Mr. Obama talks it reminds me our present president Mr Mahinda Rajapaksha, the most incompetent leader we ever had.

I can gurantee Mr. Obama is the same, if he is elected as the next president it could be the biggest mistake Americans have ever done. I think he is only good at talking. I don't think he has a clue how he is going to put the beautiful ideass that he has been talking into practise. If somebody really believes that Mr. Obama can make America a better place then he or she got sit back think again.

The sri lankan president also came out with so many great ideas and suggestions during his campaign and the majority believed him although he had never shown that he was a practical man and today our country is so unsecured and peope are suffering.

I watch hardball everyday and Chris matthews is not just a hillary critic but a clinton hater: he's easily in the same ballpark as Andrew sullivan who doesn't even pretend to be un-biased.
Chris matthews accuses the Clintons of everything.
tonight he repeatedly said that the clintons finessed this win by misleading people.
He returns to his canard that he just really loves politics but he accused bill of handing out money in some back room the night of new hampshire.
And yes i do think he is also crazy just like paula abdul and might have medication problems: he is that erratic:
His quests cringe constantly as he asks a question and then talks over them over and over again.

On MSNBC they are now talking about how Obama is going to go up against Bill. No more free reign if he is going to be running for president himself.
Obama has done very well concidering he is running against both Clintons and they are conducting a very Rove style campaign.
I think Obama is home to set up a strategy to take down both Clintons now.
It is no longer him running against Edwards and Hillary.
Hillary and Bill are running and it's clear this is about doing an end run around the 22nd amendment.
I have no doubt the constitutional professor, Obama will bring this up.
I am hoping Obama and Edwards team up together to crush the selfish Clintons for good.

I think Matthews knows politics well and I think he gets unfairly bashed just because it's the thing to do.
In his quieter moments he is very perceptive.
I agreed with his assessment of Hillary and I think it was wrong to go after him for simply telling the truth. Now he will be too careful to tell us honestly what is going on because Hillarybots are too oversensitive.
He also is aware that something is not right with what the clintons are doing. And what kind of people they are. He also knows Hillary would be a lousy president and would have made a much better senate leader. Her abrasive and divisive ways are more suited to the partisan fights. She is not suited to be president and if she is elected it will be a disaster.
Afterall, she is causing a deep rupture in the democratic party that will leave it split apart and weaker if she's nominated.
Look for a republican to be elected because of her and Bill.
But, then maybe the democrats will get over their co-depend clinging to the Clintons, who are the worst thing to happen to this party.

Marc, check this dirty trick by the two Clintons

Just a reminder, would everyone pleast wipe their feet and wash their hands carefully, before bringing anything in here from Daily Kos, Drudge, or Politico. It doesn't take much time and will help keep this site free from contamination. Thanks.

Now Robert, you used to spend a lot of time spewing filth over on Ben Smith's blog. You're as scummy as anyone at Daily Kos or Drudge. Maybe even scummier.

Chis Matthews has been pressured and threatened by a special interest group that accuses him of being sexist. They are using the typical mass email tactics to contact the bosses etc. to try to silence any criticism of Hillary. It's sad when commentators are not allowed to speak their minds. Yet another reason I fear and dread the continuation of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton politics.

Wasn't she supposed to wipeout Obama and be leading him by double digits by now,
by the end of next week she is likely to finish a second or even a third in South Carolina
and they would have 2 states each and obama would have more state delegates and have his momentum again.
Even the Republicans are more scared of Obama, which says alot by itself.
The only legitimate question to ask is when will Edwards drop out and which of the 2 candidates would he endorse. My guess is Obama, but that is just a guess

What I love about Hillary is that she is a sister. A woman that can shatter glass ceilings and put men back in her place. Chris Matthews thinks Obama is great because he is a man. This election will be a harsh reminder to all that women power is alive and well. No more bullying. We won't stand by while men grab their cajones and smoke cigars.

Now it is time for men to iron our shirts. And another thing we don't need you we have d cell batteries, plastic, each other and artificial insemination. You have become expendable. Shut up Rush and the rest of you.

LOL...apparently it's not just Matthews that accuses the Clintons of *everything*...

Prominent Democrats are upset with the aggressive role that Bill Clinton is playing in the 2008 campaign, a role they believe is inappropriate for a former president and the titular head of the Democratic Party.

... snip ...

Clinton is undeterred by the criticism and will likely keep hammering Obama if he thinks it helps Hillary. "History will judge the impact on the Clinton legacy, not daily or weekly political reporters," says Matt McKenna, Bill Clinton's press secretary.

Hillary Clinton won and she was quite humble about it.
Barack Obama is a bad loser.
I doubt whether he is truly a Democrat or just trying to take the Democrats for a ride to fulfill his ego-centric African American Dream to become the first black president of the United States.

He lies that he is a "Uniter", but was privy to a Memo to blackmail the Clintons as "racist" in South Carolina and has divided the Democratic Party into blacks for Obama and blacks against the Clintons.

I am a black African and I read the malicious Memo, signed by the Obama camp in South Carolina.
They even lied that Bill Clinton was disrespecting Nelson Mandela of South Africa.
I was involved in the mobilization of the African National Congress (ANC) during the anti-Apartheid struggle, and if anyone is disrespecting Nelson Mandela or black leaders, I would be able to tell.
Hillary Clinton has been committed to the Civil Rights Movement since she met the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., in 1962 and she supported African American activists during her days at the Yale Law School. No wonder Quincy Jones, and the others are all supporting her and not Barack Obama who has done little or nothing for the African Americans in America.

Barack Obama is now desperate to win the South Carolina primary and he is now name-dropping Ronald Reagan to pander to the White voters to support him, so that he can add their votes to his African American votes to beat Hillary Clinton.

He deliberately dropped his bona fide middle name of Hussein, because he is afraid that the Islamic name will make most American Evangelicals, Jews and anti-Islamic American voters turn against him.

He has even failed to stop his Kenyan uncle, Raila Odinga, from causing more violence in Kenya after Odinga lost the presidential election. Obama is a supporter of Odinga and I have the photograph taken in Kenya to prove it. Odinga kept his own family in a safe house, but told millions of Kenyans to go on the streets to protest and over 1, 000 have been killed so far.
Why is Raila Odinga not going out to lead the protest march?
What is Barack Obama doing to stop the bloody mayhem in his fatherland, Kenya?

If he has no clue on how to stop post election violence in Kenya, then how can he stop the war in Iraq or win the global war on terror?

Lest you forget, the Islamic terrorists are active in Kenya and Barack Obama's family in Kenya are Muslims. In fact, they still call Barack Obama a Muslim.

Anyone with a Muslim family can expose the US to grave dangers. His Muslim uncle and aunt and other Muslim relatives could be used as suicide bombers to attack American targets in Kenya and even to attack the US.

Lest we forget, Barack Obama caused a riot in Pakistan, where they burnt his effigy with the US Flag.

Millions of American Muslims will be against Barack Obama for dropping his Muslim middle name.

Christ Matthews and the American news media have not asked Barack Obama, the important questions on the critical issues I have raised here and on the Huffington Post.

Barack Obama says he has been opposed to the war in Iraq.
How?
By word of mouth?
But he has voted in support of the prosecution of the war in Iraq and he has been collecting money from donors and sponsors who are supporting the war in Iraq.

How can I say I hate armed robbery, but I am collecting blood money from armed robbers to finance my presidential campaign?
Is this not complicity and hypocrisy?

He spent over $1 million on his campaign in Nevada and lured the largest unions away from John Edwards who is the real catalyst for Change and the real "uniter" who has refused to collect money from Washington Lobbyists. Obama spent more money than Hillary Clinton, but he still lost after his agents ran negative radio adverts of lies against Hillary Clinton.

For how long will Barack Obama continue to use his political spin to deceive the ignorant and gullible American voters?

A black man vs a woman. It is a lot easier for the press to mock and slander a woman than Obama. Its not just NBC or CNN, everybody is marginizing the Clintons. To my suprise Fox is actually beign fair to Hilary.

The print media and news media will never criticize Obama simply because they are afraid of being accuse of racism. But its ok to be subtely sexist. At the same time the media are trying to create the Idea that the Clintons and their campaing is racist with their edited sounds bites. Its sad really that the media have so much control over us.

I have been pushed by these idiots on msnbc and cnn cheerleading for Obama that I have stop watching news or started to watch Fox.

If you don't like Mathews, Scarborough and those other idiots on nbc then just don't watch them.

nbc=the obama machine

meet the press is hamering hill and bill

on obama.."he so gracious" "he can unite us all"

Last night Chris matthews labeled Mc Cain's w in SC as triumphant: Hillary's w was never spoken of in such terms. He says her machine scratched out the win by the usual clinton methods. With Obama and Mc Cain its all about thier message or thier character. That's just an endorsement, not commentary. Matthews is a daily car crash: luckily it helps Hillary win to be reminded of this constant double standard.

I am watching MTP on NBC and I wonder what if

Obama got Bloomberg to be his VP.

This would drive Clintons off the wagon. I love it.

Let us hope Obama beats the two Clintons. But, I know, this is an impossible reality.

The power of Clintons' attack machine is that you will vote for it, even when you do not want to do so. The reason is race, gender, and ethnicity baiting.

chris matthews and msnbc are fake. they caved under pressure and apologized for true comments concerning hillary. I will no longer trust their news and no longer watch them. we have the right to our opinions and the freedom to express them. when one backs down like matthews did, then it proves to me they will only say what they are allowed to say...

Media Matters was founded by Hillary Clinton, but it doesn't disclose that information. Why aren't they required to say that they are only around to protect a civil servant? They're srupressing freedom of speech, on behalf of an elected offical. Why's that okay?

Michael C...a Nevada win was a given for HRC two weeks ago...Obama won more delegates than she in Nevada...

Why on earth would the media report her *win* as triumphant?

*****
"We can no longer afford to build ourselves up by tearing someone else down. We can no longer afford to traffic in lies or fear or hate." Barack Obama

Vote hope, not fear. Vote unite, not divide and conquer.

Barack did not win NV. The delegates will not be decided until April.

Hillary won NV as shown with her 51% caucus delegates. Barack lost by 6%.

He is a pathetic loser. He tried to pull the racist card in NH and now he is pulling out his baby blanket in NV. He is no President much less a Senator. A sore loser. I hope he wins SC because I cannot take anymore of his racisim claims with his camp saying if SC doesn't vote for a black man they have slave mentality. He will be defeated on Feb 5th. I cannot wait.

Oh and Barack. We the Hispanic population did not vote for you in Illinois. Nor did we vote for you in Nevada. Stop the lies por favor.

G. Davis:
I disagree with the idea you blog that Hillary two weeks ago was s'posed to win nev.
Two weeks was a lifetime ago: before the culinary union endorsement, before NH, before the MLK JR. back and forth. The polls are having trouble picking up some of the dynamics of this race nation-wide AND state-by state.
In addition there haven't been caucases in NEVADA before so as commentator and pundit after commentator and pundit made clear polling couldn't accurately predict turn-out or anything in Nevada.
An obama win was a given in NH after Iowa.
Obama was supposed to win with the big endorsement. Both of us can pretend that these were givens but in this amzing battle between well funded and dynamic people I don't think we can quess what happens until it does.
it felt triumphant at my house, though: I believe in good news.

I hope Barrack Obama win, so we won't have to hear how racist America is.

NBC was suggesting after the Nevada win for Clinton was that Hispanic won't be comforatable voting for a black man. NBC is trying to convey indirectly that if Latinos don't vote for Obama they are racist. What a bunch of BS.
