Closing arguments from Clinton, Romney

07 Jan 2008 06:15 pm

Both aired during WMUR's 6pm newscast.

Here's Clinton's.

"I know you've waited a long time for a president who could hear you and see you. We're not just changing presidents, we're changing our country. I hope you'll vote for me and help me change America. And, if you stand with me, I will stand up for you every day as your president. I'll work my heart out to bring the country we love the new beginning it needs and I will be ready to start on day one. Thank you."

And Mitt Romney's.

"Will your children fear attack from violent Jihadists? "Or will they be safe and secure in a stronger America? "America needs to get ready for these and many other new challenges. "There isn't a single challenge we can't overcome with the spirit, determination and imagination that has always been at the heart of the American people. "If you want to change Washington, and get America ready for the future, America needs you now.

Let me summarize for those of you who don't have audio at work:

change change day 1 change change change change day 1 change day 1 change change day 1. I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved this message.

Romney/Petraeus would be a great ticket. Having the best businessman/executive in the country and the best military man leading America it would be so great for this country.

Romney's is good but it lacks a central focus. He's trying to be Obama, but he can't. Republicans want a central theme about why they should vote for somebody.

I'm a Democrat, so I'd never vote for Romney, but my mom loves this guy. Many people will love this ad, he seems like such a sensible, nice man. I think he has a good chance, because it takes a bit of thinking to see how phony he is, and I don't think many Repuclicans are in a position of wanting to think about their candidates for long--the cognitive dissonance hurts!

This guy could sell plenty of cars, votes, insurance policies, whatever you want. His brand is not exciting, but it's not embarrassing either. That's the best the R's can hope for with this crew, imho.

sorry typo in Republicans

I am for Romney for very different reasons than I have seen or heard brought up before.

McCain has had a stroke and malignant melanoma twice. He has only learned recently to quit whistling through his new false teeth. (fact, no joke...go look at old footage of him.) If he wins, he will be 74 when inaugurated. (That's a one term president.) He has anger management issues. He has had to call in Washington insider markers to have gotten this far. He is personally not well liked, except by MSM who will desert him on a dime. Against Obama he is not electable...remember a nobody governor from Arkansas, Bill Clinton, ran against a too-old Bob Dole. (Why didn't the Republicans learn then not to nominate someone because it was their turn.)McCain is simply not electable, and doesn't have enough money to go the distance.

Guliani has had prostate cancer. He also has an abominable personal history while he was Mayor. Wasn't his estranged wife starring in The Vagina Monologues on Broadway while living in the Mayor's mansion and Rudy was shacking up with a new girlfriend. This does not sell well to the evangelicals. He was incredible on 9/11 and was America's Mayor, and would be my pick for Homeland Security secretary. He also does not have enough money to go the distance.

Fred Thompson currently has cancer. He also looks old and doesn't seem to have any vigor for this campaign. This will not play well against Obama if he should win the nomination. He also does not have enough money to go the distance.

Huckabee seems to be a very nice man, with lots of cute one-liners, but I don't think he has much depth. He talks of being a governor for ten years, but comments on foreign affairs seem lacking. He wears his religion on his sleeve as if voters should trust him more because he used to be a preacher. He'll get some press and lots of attention, but in the end he can't win. He has no money to go the distance.

That brings us to Romney...the so-called "perfect" candidate. Romney does NOT have and has NOT had cancer, and seems in the peek of health. He is not a Washington insider and does not owe favors to anyone or anything. He doesn't have skeletons in his closet (or we would have heard about them by now.) The fact that Mitt is a Mormon should have no bearing in Presidential politics. Mormons allow blacks to be members of their church...Obama's church does not allow whites. I don't think the MSM will be making an issue of the religion thing if these two are the nominees. Mitt has an MBA and JD from Harvard...just the kind of candidate eastern elites like. He has been hugely successful in business and the SLC 2002 Olympics. He is worth mega millions and therefore cannot be bought by special interests. He even has the picture perfect family...five sons all married and helping on the campaign. Mitt is good looking, and seemingly boundless in energy. He was awesome in the NH debates. He would debate Obama or Hillary better than any of the other candidates. And he is the only one that has enough money to go the distance.
