Ex-SC Gov. Hodges Endorses Obama

02 Jan 2008 03:43 pm

So this was the big endorsement the Obama campaign was hinting at. Ex-SC Gov. Jim Hodges (D) calls Obama the one candidate who can heal "old divisions."

Hodges was governor from 1999 to 2003, and was the first gubernatorial challenger to beat an incumbent since 1876.

"Barack Obama has been bringing people together to create change all his life. He’s the right choice to turn the page on the divisive politics that have led to partisan gridlock and inaction," Hodges says in a statement. "I also have a practical reason for supporting Barack. I think he can win in November and make states that haven’t been on the Democratic electoral map competitive again by attracting Independents and moderate Republicans.”

Hodges also a registered lobbyist, something the AP's write-up of the endorsement was not shy about mentioning.

Hodges will join the campaign as a national co-chair.

Marc,

Can you write anything without showing your bias against Senator Obama. It is better if you don't write anything about him because you got nothing positive to say

Hodges rode to the governorship on the strength of a campaign for a state lottery, aided by the comically inept buffoonery of then Republican Governor David Beasley. Hodges' campaign manager / chief fundraiser was Kevin Geddings, whom he put in charge of the SC Lottery Referendum.

Kevin Geddings is now in federal prison for trying to manipulate the North Carolina lottery.

Hodges lasted one term.

Seriously Marc,
If not for that lobbyist bit, would you have even posted this?
Then again, your bias against Obama isn't as strong as some other reporters/bloggers.

It definitely seems like most of them are Edwards supporters. That's why they've been giving him a free ride. It's almost impossible to find a negative article on him at a blog, even a big media one. I'm still perplexed as to why that is. The fact that this population is overwhelmingly white and male is one factor, but doesn't completely explain it.

Gee Mike
The left blogosphere is a fairly liberal place so is it really that surprising they support the most liberal candidate and criticize Obama for adopting right-wing talking points on the campaign trail.

Then again maybe you are correct and the left blogosphere is filled with racist douchebags who dislike Obama because he is black, gay and Muslim.
