James Dobson's Non-Endorsement Endorsement

04 Jan 2008 04:05 pm

Says the Focus on the Family founder in a statement:

“Sixty percent of the participants in the Iowa caucuses were self-identified evangelicals, and 45 percent of them backed Mike Huckabee. The former governor may not become the Republican nominee, and I have not endorsed him, but what happened there last night was evidence of an energized and highly motivated conservative community. Not bad for a supposed bunch of demoralized, depressed, disillusioned and disengaged Reaganites.”

Dobson seems to reject the view that Huckabee represents a break with Reagan.

I thought he might go Mitt's way, but I can't blame him for flirting with an endorsement of Huckabee. If I were an evangelical, I'd probably have a post-Iowa hard on as well. New Hampshire (and hopefully Michigan) will be the cold shower they need, one way or the other.

I am convinced that the Lord has his hand on Mike Huckabee.

He has the favor of God on him and will be the next President.

It is amazing to see where established ministries come down with endorsements. There is a clear choice. Pat Robinson seems to have somehow lost his conviction on the life issue.

In this campaign, God loving men and women are paying close attention.

Social conservative "leaders" like Pat Robertson and groups like the "National Right to Life" have shown that they are willing to trade principle for power - and they wind up with neither. Fortunately, the mass of individuals are able to see this for what it is.

That is why Huckabee is doing so well. He has the will and power to do what the GOP has been happy to just talk about for 30 years. During that time, being pro-life meant you didn't fund abortions with federal money. End of story. But that's not what social conservatives want. We want a Wilburforce who will have the will power and the speaking power to stop abortion. Huckabee is that man.

It's not just "evangelicals" who care about abortion. For many Roman Catholics it is also their primary focus. And Huckabee's economic populism and true compassion (unlike Bush) will make it easier for Catholics to support him even if they are Democrats.

In the fall, Dobson said "we have choices" - Tancredo, Brownback, Hunter, Huckabee. Three of these choices have quit. Hunter hasn't gotten beyond 1%. Now we have ONE choice - and he was always the best choice - Huckabee. I don't know if Dobson's endorsement would help or hinder. Huckabee hasn't needed it yet.

duncan hunter is the only true republican and deserves the endorsement ......

Well maiberforHUNTER, now that he's gone and Hunter endorses Huckabee... it must say alot that the only true republican supports huckabee

It is so wonderful that James Dobson has endorsed Mike Huckabee, the one and only true conservative that has ever been in this race. He is the Godly man we need to be our next president. The thing I find so sad is that James Dobson waited until now to make this endorsement. It would have been much more powerful if he had done it before Super Tuesday....but GOD is still in control, and if it is His will that Mike Huckabee wins, then he will win. What we, as Christians, need to do is pray HARD. Miracles still happen for those who believe.

I'm wondering..now that it July 2008 were is dobsons stand concerning the election. I value his opinion.
