Hillary Clinton will appear on NBC's Meet the Press this weekend, for a full hour, for the first time, ever.

Will Russert's tough questions incite tears?

"For the first time ever" says it all. We'll see if tough questions will really get answered.

Wouldn't it be more informative to see whether Barack Obama can go head to head in such an interview for an hour? If he does well it would tell us a lot about his abilities beyond the wonderful oratory. This certainly gives lie to the idea the the MSM have it in for Hillary. And, of course, Edwards, the best opportunity we had for a big change election, is now in complete television limbo.

Obama has been on MTP twice now to HIllary's one. When Hilary was on, she filibustered all the questions but when Obama was on there was very little spin.

I think I know the motivation for Hillary doing this. She wants an hour of television in which a male commenter is beating up a female candidate. She wants Russert to play as much gotcha, tough questions as possible. Because, then, no matter how full of it she may be in her answers, she will be able to ride out of the studio proclaiming that the sisterhood needs to unite because the biased, male tim russert is beating up on her.

I hope Tim Russert is smart enough not to fall into her hands. It may seem counterintuitive, but the worst thing he could do for Hillary would be to give her a boring, wonkish, nonconfrontational, relatively softball interview. The more visuals there are of men beating up on Hillary, the more she will be able to carry her politics of female tribalism to the nomination.

My prediction: Russert will do what he always does, and then the Clinton campaign will claim to have "taken the best he could throw at her" even though he was "more aggressive and blustering to her than he's been to any male candidate."

There's also a 50/50 chance that the eyes will be welling up again. Perhaps at the thought of some poor latino child in Las Vegas who doesn't have healthcare and only wants to grow up to be a doctor and help wounded national guard and reserve soldiers get better.

Way to go, progressivedem, for being so well informed. The only thing that your post "gives lie" to is your apparent cluelessness.

Thank God that fool Edwards is gone. Where is Petey? He crowed so loud for so long and now look at his candidate...Always the bridesmaid.

Progressive Dems are sad...Nadarites who threw away 2000 and sill can't get their heads out of their asses...

Hillary is going on mtp so that Russert doesn't tear her apart in the debate.

Hillary is not a WarLORD but she is a fighter, when that is needed for the common good

The media should worry more about talking to Barry Obama. WHo is he? How is he qualified?

What is his stance again on Yucca Mtn .. that debate answer was confusing to say the least.

All I see from Barry is flowery words and the media isn't doing its job and digging deeper.

Obama choked in New Hampshire. He blew a 10 point lead with 2 days to go. His biggest political victory came against Alan Keyes. Someone ask Barry how we can trust him to carry the Democratic flag to victory in a general election.

No doubt Russert will make the Republicans look good. Just take note of the questions and then see if he ask the same of the Republicans. If as in the past. It ain't goin'n happen baby!

Mel: Russert is a Democrat. You though are an idiot.

RKA called it. It will be another "attack on the woman candidate." I fully expect to see a LOT more tears on the trail, as well.

Speaking as an older woman, it just makes me sick. Ditto, speaking as a feminist. Clinton would not even be a senator if she had not been married to the president.

texasdem: What gets me about you older "feminists" is that you're mad that she's an opportunist. What's wrong with the fact that she used her husband to get to presidency. Men often have used and continue to use their wives' free labor in the home to get ahead in life.

And sexism is very alive and clear in these comments. No one analyzed George W. or Bill when they were running about the way they cried or didn't cry. It's only because she's a woman that anyone has noticed and tried to speculate. If you fell for her tearing up, then your the weak one.

We don't live a gender-neutral world. I think Hillary's tactics are her only options for a fair race.

Kenny Watson: actually, he isn't a Dem.

While he worked for New York Dems in his initial career(Moynihan and Cuomo), that was more a function of his Buffalo roots than personal preference.

Russert typically votes Republican and has said so publically (I heard him say so at a morning talk given at the Maryland Science Center in the late 1990s).

Russert talks and acts like a Republican. For example, he doesn't always have the facts correct in his questions. He jumps to conclusions, if A = B, then A=C. I watch mtp occasionally, but am not impressed with Russert.

bosstown, thank you for confirming my suspicions by defending HIllary by saying essentially, "George Bush does it too."

Bush and Hillary: Two peas in a bi-dynastic pod

Perhaps Russert can ask her why it took 35 years to find this "new voice" of hers and why this "new voice" sounds exactly like the one she used 2 weeks ago.

Talk about false hopes-- Clinton is fooling her supporters into believing she can change and grow.

She has always been a bitter victim and always will be, courtesy of her lout husband and their mutual desire for power, power, power.

And to the commenter who wondered whether Obama could handle Meet the Press-- HILLARY is the one who avoids these shows, not Obama. He has been on before and has always done well. In fact, Russert is the one that asked Obama about his Iraq position nuances/changes (the issue Bill Clinton cried about in New Hampshire) and Obama came out unscathed.

Hillary Clinton is a phony. Her campaign is sickening and hateful.

Bosstown: When you were castrated did it hurt much?

texasdem : So as a woman and feminist you don't cry, ever? I'm male and have been moved to mist up on occasion, does that make me a fake and a failure or just a poor excuse of a man that pales when compared to your overly masculinized feminism? What a crock of crap.

bosshog, what a simple minded sexist hog you are.

RKA, if you would only learn how to read words other than bush, clinton, hillary would understand my argument.

re Texasdem's comment: "I fully expect to see a LOT more tears on the trail, as well."

Actually, Texasdem, you haven't seen one single tear on the campaign trail yet.

The fact that you come here and pretend that you did makes you nothing but a liar.

I hope she kicks that biased, vindictive pig Russert right in the balls. When he asked her during one of the debates to PROMISE that Iran wouldn't develop a nuke on her watch, that would have been an unfair question to ask of any of them, and he asked it of her. Then he continued to badger her over it. I lost all respect for him right then and there. It made him look like a fool.

Of course Obama doesn't have a hard time on "Meet the Press." He has Russert in his back pocket. Did you see the look of horror on Russert's face when MSNBC called NH for Hillary? Priceless.

Russert asks fair, but tough questions. If Hillary can't handle him, how will she handle those guys in the Middle East?

Russert is a Democrat. He is also a fair journalist , and not a commentator like Chris Matthews or Olbermann. I watch his show regularly and I think he does a fair job in moderating the debates. Way better than Chris Matthews.

"Russert asks fair, but tough questions."

How can any US leader promise that Iran will not develop a nuclear weapon? That question would only be fair if he were asking an Iranian leader.

The only thing Tim Russert will get out of Hillary Clinton: name, rank, and serial number. Mr. Russert ought to ask Hillary about this. Inquiring minds want to know - what about it Tim: http://theseedsof9-11.com

I just finished watching the interview. The host spent most of his time giving stats about how Obama was this and Obama was that. He was very negative and critical. Hilary kept her cool and went head to head with him in a very strong way. She kept bringing him back to looking at the whole picture, statements, records.... I haven't heard Obama provide any substance on his current policies, offer solutions. He talks in circles and doesn't say anything except IDEALS. Clinton is much more impressive, strong, and excperienced. We need that with the crazies out there.

You are the best for our country you have the more qualifications then anyone running included the president Bush, you have our vote I was republication all my life I will vote for you.
Obama knows what Bill Cliton said about (fairy tale) if he was not racist he would come out and amit to he understands english the fact that he has not makes me wonder if he it a racist running for president of the United States. South Carolina i hope you will not vote color.
