This is not a one issue political race and CT is not a one issue state.
"I'm Hillary Clinton and I approved George Bush's war"
Michael, You wanted, perhaps, a twenty-page policy brief giving the issue of Iraq full and complex treatment? Grow up. It's a targeted mailer, and it's likely to be quite effective in a state split 40-40.
Who cares about the war anymore? If I were his campaign, I would get out in front of this ABC news story about Clinton's inaction on the Walmart Board. Do working class Americans and union members think that even after NAFTA & CAFTA and ignorance of Walmart's hideous union busting track record that she will keep their economic interests in mind? really? Can we really trust Clinton to be OUR advocate in the white house? Personally, I only trust her to manipulate us so she can capitulate to business republicans and call it progress.
Follow the latest Obama email campaign: http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0108/An_antiHillary_viral_email.html#comments
Democrat, you're a misleading troll. One supporter doesn't make a campaign.
That was posted by a supporter not the campaign.. I guess the emails pushed by the Clinton campaign volunteers about Obama being a muslim are representative of her campaign too.
who cares about the war anymore? I hope you're joking, joey.
WHY ONLY IN CT????
"Who cares about the war anymore?" The families of the solidiers (like mine) and some of us who don't consider people magazine real news! We should ALL still care.! Apathy is the outcome of un-shared sacrifice.
CT Dems chose Lamont over Lieberman nearly two years ago. Think they're more pro-war now? A key is that Clinton did not read the NIE. So much for her competence and experience.
CT democrats ousted Joe Lieberman due to his support of the war. That doesnt bode well for Billary in CT assuming voters there havent had a stroke and still, you know ,care about the war.
There are tons of people who vote but don't really follow politics, this mailer is aimed directly at those people. The argument is simple, factual, powerful.
The great thing about that mailer is that there isn't an ounce of untruth in it. It simply points out that when push came to shove, Hillary voted for that war. Brilliant job by the Obama campaign.
The Obama campaign ought to run TV ads showing Hilary standing up and applauding Bush as he spoke triumphantly about Iraq during the SOTU speech the other night. What a disgusting moment.
You really get the sense that the Obama campaign has been holding back until know. The Denvr speech and these tough, but fair, mailers right at crunch time seems to be part of a strategy to peak right at the right time - Feb 5th. I think the Clintons have already played their good cards - the race card, the rezko card, the present card, the experience card. What do they have left. I think the gender card can always be replayed as the ridiculous coverage of "the snub: shows, but they don't really have much. I think Obama has the momentum, he has the money, he has the message....I think david is in good position against goliath...
Good point RKA. Frankly, I was starting to wonder if his team was just incompetent, but maybe they were just holding their fire until now.
Yes, this does matter. She went with politics instead of reading the intelligence and thinking about middle eastern history. A lot of people died because of her vote and others, not to mention a resurgence of the Taliban. Her experience and voting record is well in bounds for two reasons: she is running on it and she is hitting Obama on present votes. This goes to judgment, and this shows she has a lot of the poor variety. I have never bought her experience argument. Voting for Iraq disqualifies her from being President. http://www.politicalinaction.com
RKA, I think you're spot-on.
Yep. Another example of Barack's "new" politics. While he is out talkng about her, she is out talking about bringing the troops home, the economy, etc. They have the EXACT same voting record on this issue - except of course for the time he was too busy campaigning for President to show up to vote.
RKA, I agree Obama appears to be peaking at the right time (not sure if it will be enough), but I think it's mostly due to recent events beyond his control -- Clinton going overboard in South Carolina, which in turn caused both a backlash, and blowout victory for Obama, and the Kennedy endorsements. If I had to attribute Obama's recent fortunes and momentum to anything, it's to the Clintons. I think they hoped to frame him as the black candidate post-South Carolina, but it not only failed but helped him. Now it's a real dogfight. I still think Hillary's got a clear advantage, but he's got a shot.
I'm with joey on this one. Her Iraq vote may win Obama votes here in Berkeley, CA or in Greenwich, CT, but her silence during Wal-Mart's union-busting has resonance for the blue-collar, union-worker Democratic base -- precisely the base that was supporting Edwards.
I agree with RKA. Part of the genius of Axelrod's campaign strategy was to promote Obama as the candidate of "Hope" and "Change" and rely upon his charisma and positive-campaigning to keep him close to Clinton through the early primaries. The bet was that the Clintons would very quickly be drawn into negative campaigning, and that in response to such campaigning Obama could defend himself, and thus begin to "contrast" (Clinton's favorite term for negative politics) his own record to his rival's. Now nobody is talking much about whether these adds undermine the premise of Obama's campaign, since the Clintons prior actions render that objection beside the point. Whether it works or not is yet to be seen, but is a brilliant piece of political strategy.
Oh yeah, and I wish I could've seen Terry McAulliffe's face when that $32 million bombshell dropped this morning.
Me too, JBS. I bet Bill filled up his Depends on that one.
Who cares about the war anymore??? Are you kidding?? I have one son and a nephew in Iraq right now and my other son is leaving in two months to join them. I care and so do the parents and families of over 160,000 young men and women who are over there supposedly fighting to keep you safe from terrorists over here! You are an appalling piece of dung!
160,000 young men and women who are over there supposedly fighting to keep you safe from terrorists over here I too care about the troops, but I don't think for a moment they are protecting me from terrorists.
True. Not only her failure to read the NIE, and her "silence during Wal-Mart's union-busting" but also her complete disregard for the rules during this campaign makes me worry/wonder what she would do when faced with following the constitution?! Compare and contrast her handling of her campaign to that of Obama. There is a clear and stunning distinction in my mind.
I believe there's always been a clear and stunning distinction between the way the Clintons do business – and the way moral, ethical human beings handle things. That being said, my newfound conclusion on why Hillary fails to read such things as intelligence reports is that she spends too much time shopping. She doesn't have the time; it's that simple. Hillary never appears in the same outfit twice. She has to spend an inordinate amount of time shopping and coordinating various outfits. Anyone remember the outfit in which Hillary gave her victory speech in New Hampshire? Wasn't that gray fabric with the black floral print, formerly the drapes of the Holiday Inn? I just think it's a physical impossibility for anyone to shop 8 to 10 hours per day, day in, day out, and read such voluminous reports. This is not to say that a clotheshorse wouldn't make a good elected official. It's just that Hillary has justified so much of her career in the name of Political Correctness, or whatever fashion dictates; the Iraq War must have seemed a slam-dunk. It was matching that red top with the black waist jacket that best highlights her decision-making abilities: http://theseedsof9-11.com
anecdotal observation - I see women liberals who are supporting Clinton for bullshit sisterhood reasons, and they feel guilty about the war. They do. Whatever can push them over the edge is good. They need to feel guiltier.
Anon on this one-Nothing will guilt trip the feministas...I can say that because I'm a former bra burning feminist. Learned as I got older that militant doesn't work in the real world.
How much healthcare WORLDWIDE could have been bought with the money we've spent in Iraq? How much mortgage assistance could have been bought? Tax relief for working families? How much less would we be beholden to Asia for the debt they hold? Good god...this war is sucking us dry...humanly, financially and morally.

Nice slogan ("sometimes the president" etc). I wonder if we'll hear it tonight in Cali.
