Quick Thoughts On Crist's Endorsement

27 Jan 2008 09:02 am

A few thoughts: Crist is very popular in Florida, but he is NOT popular with conservative activists who (correctly) think he governs like a moderate Democrat.

He IS popular with rank-and-file Republicans, though...

This is not an inconsequential endorsement..

This also erases McCain's misleading attack on Romney from the headlines....

Rudy Giuliani, who arguably pandered to Crist by supporting his national catastrophic insurance fund, was holding out hope that he'd get the endorsement...

The new Rasmussen poll shows Mitt with 33%, McCain with 27%, and Rudy trailing with 18%. It shows a 6 point gain for Mitt, a 4 point gain for McCain and a drop for Rudy. More significantly, it shows that only 3% are undecided, and that Romney's support is more solid than McCain's or Rudy's. It looks right now like Mitt will win this thing, and the McCain camp is showing signs of desperation....hence McCain's charge that Mitt wanted to withdraw from Iraq....Even the New York Times took Mitt's side on that one. It's factually incorrect.

I thought Crist would stay neutral like Jeb Bush.
Romney did well in the last debate that's why he's still surging and the false accusation by McCain can only help Romney. I read the transcript. Romney didn't exactly say to set a timetable, but suggested that the leaders should work together to organize a timetable and keep it confidential. this can easily be misconstrued and McCain took advantage of that.

If Romney wins, and Fred Thomson declines to join his ticket, I hope Romney will ask Jeb Bush. They've worked together before and would make a formidable team against the democrats.

Florida has early voting, it started 12 days ago. And, based on early voting results, it is obvious that Romney is leading. (He's been leading in the polls by 2 to 4 pts). This is why Gov. Crist came out to endorse McCain at 9:30 pm on the Saturday before the election. An 11th hour endorsement of despiration. Most surprising, is that Crist is a conservative and McCain is a moderate who can't raise the support of true conservatives. I am gravely dissapointed with this political stunt pulled by Crist. This is why I DON'T support early voting, it gives the state early notice as to who's leading. This gives the other side an advantage to counter in an unfair manner.

WSW, they don't count the vote till election night. Unless you think each county is secretly counting the votes and reporting them to Gov. Crist.

I don't think Romney leads in the ealy balloting anyway. He's just pulled into the lead in the last couple days and the people have been voting for weeks.

"like a democrat?"

you're an idiot

If Mitt Romney wins the Republican nomination, how well will he play in the South? For example, he got 15% in South Carolina while in his contest, Barack Obama got 55%. 15% of the vote despite Romney outspending all candidates, Republican or Democrat.

Would Barack Obama beat Romney in a place like South Carolina? And the South is supposed to be the GOP's safe haven. Obama would put it in play.

McCain 2008 = Bob Dole in 1996. If Obama is the dems choice, his change message will resonate even more against someone like McCain, who has been in government forever.

Mitt Romney is the only real change agent in this race because he hasn't spent his life in Washington and doing nothing like John McCain.

McCain has been a senator in a border state forever and hasn't done a damn thing. And now has Juan Hernandez, who is an illegal immigrant activist, as a close adviser on the border issue.

McCain is basically already not fulfilling a campaign promise and his campaign isn't even over. This guy is a Washington liar to the core.

Why would the endorsement of a closeted RINO governor would help McCain? Both are RINO. McCain needs to come out of the political closet and the other one has to come out of the real closet. May be this endorsement will help McCain to spread his gay agenda.

We need a real Christian like Huckabee in the white house.

It is distrubing that Mr. Crist, a current Florida governor, would engage in such a blatant attempt to manipulate Florida's voters.

Under Florida law, Mr. Crist is entitled to one vote, and one vote only.

He is obviously willing to abuse his office so as to have more than his entitled one vote in this election.

Shame on him, and shame on any Florida voters who fall for this blatant misuse of office.

Endorsing candidates is now a "misuse of office"?

People have really lost their minds this year. McCain just drives the fringe elements nuts.

Actually, he did misuse his influence, if this is true....

Bob Novak said Gov Crist told other party leaders in the state to stay neutral like he was doing, then he jumped behind McCain at the last minute, too late for many who supported Romney to do anything about it.

Conservatives aren't fringe elements, Punditish. I take it you didn't get any testing in school...
