The chairman of the Homeland Sec. committee and implementer of the 9/11 Commission recommendation is on a conf. call right now throwing his support behind Sen. Barack Obama's candidacy.

"I looked at the field. I think your message resonates with a lot more of the American people," he said to Obama.

For real? "Yes we can" beats "I'm still here after 16 years"?

This has to be an attempt by the Obama folks to stay in every media cycle. That said, it's awfully impressive how many endorsements he's been rolling out over the last few weeks.

It's like the congress' hearts are with Obama and as he becomes more viable they step out of the shadows.

It's odd to see these congressional endorsements coming in at a time of strength for Hillary. It's almost like these guys are telling her that even if she wins she's not going to be in a good position to push anyone around on the Hill.

Rid,

There is a reason that Obama is continue to rack up endorsements, especially in rad states. It's the same reason that Rahm Emmanual, the man responsible for our dem majority in the house, and Ted Kennedy both called Bill Clinton to cool it and stop injecting race into the campaign.

The reason is that the party is realizing that the Clintons are destroying the party for their short terms gain. The dirty politics and race baiting they have trafficked in could lead to many Obama supporters, especially blacks, staying home in November and against a candiddate with appeal to independents in McCain, the downballot implications could be astounding. Hillary might not just lose herself, but she could drag down the majorities in congress with her. That's why red state dems are going with Obama. They know that their political futures are on the line here too.

I think you are going to see continued support for Obama from the dem establishment and this could make a difference on Feb 5th if they can get their local parties in their states to help out. We saw in Nevada how important it was for Hillary to have the Harry Reid machine at her disposal, as we moveon to contest in other states, Hillary will not necessarily enjoy the state party muscle that she had in Nevada.
