Heading to Sanford, FL to hear Mitt Romney... today he's ratcheting up his attempt to disqualify John McCain's standing among conservatives... language includes phrases like "he'll say anything to get elected," which is what the kids call "irony," New Yorkers call "chutzpah" and McCain advisers will probably call b#(*$S#(*$..

And those of us who can't stand John McCain's love-fest call "accurate," even if ironic.
The truth is though that what McCain has been saying over the weekend amounts to lies and he knows it. He's hoping the voters are too stupid to know. This is a manufactuered stunt on McCain's part to refocus the campaign on Iraq. While McCain's sacrifices for his country 40 years ago are admirable, Romney would make a far better President and that is what we should be focused on. Even in the area of foreign policy, Romney's ideas are more inspiring and carefully thought out and demonstrate an intellect that McCain lacks. Check out Romney's writings in Foreign Affairs magazine if you want to see his vision for America internationally. McCain's remarks this weekend are akin to Bill Clinton's. They appear desperate. He indeed looks willing to say whatever is necessary to win.
"[McCain] will say anything." Yah. McPampered is the king of double talk. He has equivocated on fiscals, campaign finance, free speech, principles, and illegal immigration. Has the media paid any attention to McCain and his Reform Institute and his advisors? No. McCain is the policy man for cable, print, Univision, Cablevision. McCain comes with the added bonus of squishy frameworks for ethics and policy. Marc, the echo-chamber has done a good job pampering McLoser and he has little chance in the general as the narratives of old, Keating 5, Univision, easy Iraq War, and his lobby pals take hold.
McCain fares better in polls well out from an election in head-to-head against Clinton or Obama simply because he has scrambled to put his ego and his face in front of every adoring media camera crew he can find - Pure Recognition, Q-factor. Governors like Romney, Clinton, Carter, Reagan, Huckabee, Bush always fare worse in head-to-heads with "Famous Senators" but John Kerry and Bob Dole stand out as archtypes of why Senators are so unsuited to be President. John McCain is simply Bob Dole II. Easy prey, a person of the past. Except Bob Dole had brains, climbed into a leadership role in the Senate, and had the deep trust and respect of both Parties. John McCain doesn't. And please, name me one leader in any country, other than Amahdinejad and he really isn't the leader of Iran - who says he will be needed for the new wars that will need to be fought once he is in charge. None. That latest of McCain that he is needed for the coming wars, is scary-crazy. As an ex-officer, I am the 1st to say that just being in the military does not make one a strategic expert in all matters outside their specialty. Nor does being a POW or a And even strategic geniuses who understand the US military and war-fighting better than almost any do not make great Presidents. We never had President McArthur or President Patton. Grant was a dismal failure. Audie Murphy and SGT York never came into high political office, nor do 99.99% of past Admirals and Generals. (And McCain was passed over for Admiral on issues of character, temperment, and accomplishment. And maybe his rep as a jet wrecker. 3 planes crashed, two with pilot error involved. One burned as he readied for takeoff and couldn't ditch. THe 5th shot down on his 3rd sortie. He flew, then the only management job was commanding a training fighter squadron stateside where planes and pilots were rehabilitated - with several supervisors above McCain at Base - before they could be sent for Fleet service. ) I do believe, after seeing Bush II, the last sort of President we need is one with a fighter jock mentality. And McCain is for all intents and purposes, just like GW Bush in his management style in the Senate. My way or the highway. I won't need to consult experts before going to war, I know what I'm doing. I trust my gut instincts. I don't want a mediocre guy with age, intellect, executive leadership, and temperment issues running the whole country, let alone be an Admiral. I don't want to have my nephews fighting in Iran like two did in Iraq, or my daughter now in the Navy end up in a watery Gulf of Oman or Pacific grave because of games John McCain wants to play with Iran, China, Burma, the NORKS. The media carrying the guy and covering for him all these years is understandable because they love the Victimhood biography and once saw him as the perfect turkey to offer up for the Inevitable Hillary if they could manipulate voters. A Bob Dole with all his flaws, but none of Bob Dole's great attributes. Romney and Obama may be open-minded enough, hugely articulate, and smart enough that despite their very different experience levels and visions, some issues might actually be resolved and mutually agreed in the Presidential Contest before one takes office. We have had 48 years of either or both candidates being of pedestrian intelligence or prisoner of rigid dogmatic beliefs, deliberate Shrum-Atwater type wedge politics, and canned talking points. Or elections where the debate and contest never got serious because one of the candidates was a lost cause beginning at the Convention. (Goldwater, McGovern, Ford, Dole, Kerry). Little was gained in a half century of those debates and contests except the media getting their "Killer Sound Bite". Imagine McCain in a contest with Obama or Hillary... "My friends, my friends, whatever my opponent said - remember, I learned 40 years ago in POW camp it is all about courage...the will to resist the torture of the enemy or the advice of others later. Heh-heh-heh!"
That was a great comment, Chris Ford. I hope you blog somewhere. I noticed that too: "I didn't manage, I led". Sounds just like "I'm the decider". We need a manager, not a leader. Technically, a presider. We don't elect kings (or unitary executives). It comes down to: we need more businessmen and fewer cowboys. Or Ron Paul, if we want to be free.
Mitt Romney is a soulless flip-flopper who has zero chance of becoming president. People don't trust him because he has a very clear history of changing every single position he's had for political expediency. He is absolute toast in a general election. McCain has his faults, and the timetable stuff has been over-the-top, but Romney is a fraud, and that's why McCain's gambit will probably work, because his target is such a stooge.
I looked back at Ken Lay's donations to the GOP in '01 and '02. He was generous, covering the waterfront - and the energyfront - but not a dollar for McCain. But he did support great Americans like Tom DeLay and Mitt Romney.
Interesting about Romney donors. Hmmm. I guess brokered convention is the only way to go to get out of this mess. Then we can nominate someone totally new, like Sanford!!
Mitt is the only republican running on a real conservative platform. The rest are liberals posing as conservatives.
Instead of listening to exaggerations and flat out lies told by old man McCain why don't you find out for yourself who the real conservative is. Look up the real history of what Mitt Romney has done and how the old man has voted. It's obvious who's telling the truh, and who is the most conservative. Watching the old man change the facts just proves he does lean "liberal". Isn't that what they do? Why would the old man vote against the the Bush tax cuts? Why does he want Amnesty for illegals? I think he's too old and set in his ways, he's stubborn, and has a bad temper. Those who know him say it. He's just too old to start a stressful job such as the President has. MCCain is 72 and Romney is 60. I can see how the campaigning is wering out McCain. Sometimes he can barely walk. I'm old, and believe me he won't get better. In that stressful job he will go down hill fast. McCain has a bad temper,he's a "grumpy" old man. He's a boring speaker. He's way too old. Sure he was a soldier who got caught...a Prisoner of War, but that does not make him a good Leader! Mitt Romney knows how to lead, delegate jobs and turn things around. Mitt Romney is a strong conservative. Which one do you think is the most intelligent? Mitt Romney would make a much better President, and Mitt Romney can beat either Hillary or Obama IMO.

And Obama supporters will call another line Romney has stolen!
(It was in his radio ad in response to Clinton's ad going after him on the Reagan comments. Hillary will say anything and change nothing.)
