Snub This!

29 Jan 2008 02:35 pm

It acquired a name sometime between 6am and 12pm as I was flying across the country. What had begun with a photo appearing to show Barack Obama staring icily at an open-faced Hillary Clinton, and a second, turned away as she greeted Sen. Ted Kennedy, has turned into something called "The Snub."

In the age of visual information, brush asides become thinly sliced character studies. Hence, if you're an Obama supporter, he was politely responding to a question from Claire McCaskill and did not know that Sen. Clinton was eager to shake his hand. If you're an opponent, you saw the "real Obama" -- not the Jesus his staff portrays him to be, but an arrogant upstart for whom "New Politics" means the Politics of Me.

Let's stipulate that Obama, being familiar enough to find his way to Capitol Hill, presumably expected to encounter his presidential rival. Let us also presume that, despite his protestations, images and impressions often matter more than words, and so he might have been a bit more sensitive to his surroundings. But let us concede that to expect a presidential candidate to know when to turn and when to stay focused is appropriate only when Roger Goodman is in his ear. (And Roger Goodman was in New York City.)

Aside from that, everyone will see in The Snub what they like. The media, driven by a bias toward conflict, has already concluded what the Snub was, but they're pretending to ask the question anyway. To be fair, the vast majority of the press's first impressions were that it was a snub.

To reporters on his press plane, Obama said he really just didn't see Sen. Clinton intending to say hello to him and meant no disrespect. Earlier today, his chief strategist said that Obama had known Clinton was there but did not not want to get in the way of an awkward moment between Sen. Kennedy and Sen. Clinton.

Simple solution -

Axelrod is contradicting the later released version by Obama/McCaskill -

go to the videotape and see if McCaskill asks anyone anything -

that answers who's telling the truth

I'm disappointed to find our esteemed blogger perpetuating this pseudo-drama.

A better angle on the moment: http://blogs.trb.com/news/politics/blog/Clinton%20greets%20Kennedy%20with%20Obama%20turned.jpg

I'm disappointed to find our esteemed blogger perpetuating this pseudo-drama.

As am I. Come on, Marc, you're better than this.

This is pretty amusing when you consider how much ink has been spilled on Hillary's "ice queen" routine before debates or on the floor when Obama was trying to be friendly.

I seem to recall reading some of those stories in your December Atlantic article (print only), but I could be mistaken.

how much more press will this get than all of Edwards' policies for the entire week?

two, three times?

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/01/29/us/politics/mills-sou-four.jpg

What's funny is the photos indicate that he didn't even notice that Ted was talking to her (he turns his head before she extends her hand (see second photo)). Still this is quite sophmoric if you ask me. And given Ambinder's own piece from December, I recall that Senator Clinton is not a big fan of Senator Obama's.

Let's also stipulate that the entire day was marked by both candidates studiously avoiding the other.

Two interesting accounts from the Post's Trail blog support that view.

First, Clinton and Obama avoided each other this afternoon on the Senate floor. Or perhaps she was the one doing the avoiding:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/01/28/clinton_obama_make_quick_trip.html

For most of this lovefest, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton remained out of view, having stepped into the cloakroom during the first vote.

I don't know, there's no way to interpret that with any certainty.

Then, as all the Senators gathered in the chamber at 8:20, to head over to the House:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/01/28/where_a_short_walk_is_not_just.html

the leading candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination did not come near each other, much less address the other.

Also, another nugget: in the afternoon, when Senator Clinton was in the cloak room, she

ran into [Senator] Kennedy, and the two exchanged greetings, according to people familiar with the conversation.

So she had said hello to Kennedy earlier. To me it then seems a bit odd that she would come over and do the same thing again.

Also, Obama says they exchanged waves as they were entering the House chamber.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/01/29/618263.aspx

With that kind of context for the full day, it's clear to me that the behavior of both politicians was entirely equivalent.

Ben,

You love to use 'to be fair'. Come on, you are anything but fair.

There should be more snubbing, rudeness, conflict, and outright battle between politicians. One reason the political system in this country is so grotesque is the insistence that we maintain this illusion of decorum and decency. I'm always nauseated by the orgy of phony smiles between bitter enemies that precedes the SOTU addresses.

'Oh, HEY! Dick Cheney! So nice to see you again. How ARE you? How's the torture going? Mmmmmm. That's TERRIFIC. Well, see you later.'

Who cares.. All I want to know is when will we get out of Iraq??

It runs in his family. Obama snubbed his mother and maternal grandparents who raised him by turning towards his "Dream Father" who was in fact something of a NIGHTMARE. Drunk, deadbeat, misogynistic and abusive, Barack Obama Sr snubbed several "families" he created in his short brutal life.

Now Cousin Raila Odinga is SNUBBING THE ELECTORAL PROCESS in Kenya, and thousands of Kenyans are dying brutal deaths as a result.

On his African side, Obama has inherited brutal arrogance and psychopathic self indulgance.

It runs in his family.

Now Cousin Raila Odinga is SNUBBING THE ELECTORAL PROCESS in Kenya, and thousands of Kenyans are dying as a result. Hacked to death with machetes, burned to death in their homes, stoned and beheaded after being pulled from their cars.

On his African side, Obama has inherited cold brutal arrogance and a psychopathic self indulgance.

According to the NYtimes, on the day that Obama opened his exploratory committee to run for president, he actually extended his arm to shake hillary's hand when they saw each other on the sentate floor and she didn't shake it.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/07/us/politics/07rivals.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

In this article, people in both the Obama and Clinton camps blame Hllary for the frosty relations between the two. Obama made a good faith attempt to stay friendly, but it was Hillary who started giving him the cold shoulder.

In thi case yesterday, Hillary ws intending to shake Ted kennedy's hand, not Obama's. The idea that Obama didn't shake a hand offered to him by HIllary is a LIE.

This is nothing but a media manufactured BS story designed to give Hillary a female backlash vote by trying to reprise a "not likable enough" moment. The media is trying to do a hit job on Obama and it is disgusting. All the indications are that it is hillary who is responsible for the frosty relationship and now she is trying to portray herself as some scorned gracious woman in order to reprise the NH female voter backlash.

Don't fall for this, folks. This is like when the clintons play the race card and then blame someone else for playing the race card. The Clintons act in a boorish way and then use the media to paint Obama as a boor. This is the biggest load of BS I have seen.

Another point that should be made here: Who claps while they are in the process of snubbing someone? If you are snubbing someone, you are not going to be doing the positive action of clapping, you are more likely to be doing nothing with your hands. He doesn't look angry in the least. He is just politiely moving out of the way so that HIllary and Ted can have a moment alone. That is called common courtesy, folks. Especially given the fact that they had already exchanged pleasantries before the speech.

Remember when the media saisd that Obama lost his cool with Jeff Zeleny asking him if Bill CLinton was inseide his head and ABC printed Obama's words to suggest that Obama had snapped, but when you saw the video he was smiling and jovial throughut?

Here is what ABC said about the Obama-Zeleny affair:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/01/is-bill-clinton.html

And here is the video:

http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/tag/greenwood/

You can see in the video that Obama is smiling, and jovial throughout in contracdition to an ABC attempt to paint him as having snapped, or something.

A similar manufactured media hit job is unfolding here. There is a pattern by the media to take words and images of Obama out of context to smear him.

Just because Obama had a good free media day yesterday does not mean journalists should make stuff up just to "even things out" today. A journalist should report the truth no matter what instead of playing corrupt referree.

Mark,

Sad to see you engaging in this gossip fest like the rest of the MSM, but at least you could post a quick retraction, seeing the photographic evidence in the comments that shows the was no "snub" and that all your innuendo was just that and nothing more.

That's the power of having a blog, once the facts show you've been wrong you can put out a quick retraction.

Waiting....

Waiting....

Ambinder to self: I think I'm going to write about "The Snub".

Ambinder's personal editor to self: please don't

Ambinder to personal editor: why not? Everyone else is. It's a great story.

Ambinder's personal editor to self: no it isn't. These are people who want to be president of the U.S. Instead, briefly chide the MSM for wasting our time, and then discuss the downsides of the candidates' proposals.

Ambinder to personal editor: but, that's difficult and taxing!

Ambinder's personal editor to self: then find experts and ask them to weigh in. Sending emails is easy!

Ambinder to personal editor: OK, I will!

Snub?

That, or Senator Clinton is starting to get a little bit too Tracy Flick.

Snub?

Or Clinton merging once again with Tracy Flick?

I haven't followed this riveting story too closely, but that's the first account I've read that Hillary was actively seeking out a big "hello!" from Obama. I thought she was specifically leaning over to shake Teddy's hand at Teddy's beckoning?

Anyway, the wider pictures from the other angle make it very clear that Claire McKaskill has a lot to answer for. I'm pretty sure she was hand-shake blocking. And that just ain't cool.

Do you not have better things to worry about than the trumped up conflicts and imagined fights? I guess we are supposed to see this the lastest example of HRC being the victim? It played well in NH, maybe it will work for them 2/5 as well?

It seems like America has bigger things to worry about whatever way you take it. Marc, what about those crazy things called issues?

There's really no telling what sort of threats have been made on Obama from the Hillary campaign since he announced his candidacy, let alone in the last 5 weeks. I assume the Clinton's have sent multiple messages to him that should he lose the nomination and HRC wins, they will do everything in their power to destroy is career, and make sure he and the state of Illinois gets nothing, from an HRC White House.

That would seem to be worth a snub.

Shutup!!!!

I am so sick and tired of baby boomers and their dorm room politics. Enough.

Enough.

As a true Obama supporter, I can't imagine for a moment that Mr. Obama had anything but the nicest, most noble intentions in mind. That Clinton woman, on the other hand, probably engineered this entire episode in order to slime our One True Hope.

Much ado about nothing here. The photos show Clinton reaching to shake hands with Kennedy. Obama might've thought it tactful to stay out of the way and leave those two on their own. If he had turned to smile and greet her, he'd be accused of rubbing Kennedy's endorsement in her face.

There is no reason for Obama to snub when everything is going his way. Is this a fresh media smear campaign?

You are all kidding right? These are jokes? If not, you guys have gone off the deep end. You know for all the nastiness attributed to Clinton, it is Obama's supporters on the blogs who are without doubt the most nasty, vulgar, viscious, insensitive people around. My personal experience. I dont really get it. Is this some sort of Animal Farm thing now where if you dont tow the line you are personally doomed?

There are so many more important things to be blogging about. This is so childish!

Well I take back a comment earlier on about your blog not being in the same level of TrashPo.

The BO-McKaskill explanation is simply not true, and is refuted in the pictures themselves, as well as being directly contradicted by Axelrod's earlier explanation.

What happened...I thought Barack said Hillary was "likeable enough" in New Hampshire?!

This, again, shows the darker side of the angelic figure the Obama-loving press have painted.

He in fact has a side to him that is petty, juvenile and small. Remind you of any current resident of Pennsylvannia Avenue?

Is this really the person who can "bridge the partisan divides" when he can't even shake her hand?

In these unguarded moments BO reflects what I have observed from a lot of the followers of his "hope" message...and that is "hate".

Throughout the Summer and Fall he portrayed Hillary as being the equivalent of Bush and Cheney, so I guess it's not so hard to understand why his followers have such animosity towards her.

obama can't win this one. when he "looks like" he snubs clinton, he's an ass. when she snubs him, he's a weakling. check out maureen dowd's column from nov 18, 2007 talking about how hil and barry interacted onstage at the las vegas debate:

"When Hillary walked onstage Thursday, Obama stood to her left waiting to shake hands and say hi, as he and Edwards had done with Chris Dodd. She turned her body away, refused to meet his eyes and froze him out. Again. And he looked taken aback. Again."

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/18/opinion/18dowd.html?scp=19&sq=obama&st=nyt

ridiculous.

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/01/29/us/politics/mills-sou-four.jpg

Why don't you post the photos for everyone to see?

Marc,

Sorry to be blunt, but this is the sort of inside-baseball nonsense that keeps us from looking at the bigger picture. Let's not waste another second of our precious energy or another pixel on whether or not Obama snubbed Hilary. There are bigger fish to fry.

Hillary Clinton’s is campaign is making robo-calls in Florida. Corrine Brown, a member of Hillary's Campaign and the US House of Reps, is making robo-calls that say to vote no for the amendment that is also on the ballot and before she ends the call she say "by the way I am supporting Hillary Clinton for President". My mother who lives in Jacksonville, Florida just got the call moments ago. This is a CLEAR violation of the Pledge!

This manufactured "incident" is yet another gender war designed to provoke the girls to defend the honor of their "disrespected" sister -- just like in NH. The Clintons can't win the election honestly, so they have to keep distracting the public with bullshit like this -- all the while they scheme and connive to cheat the DNC rules on Michigan and Florida.

And in an unrelated development, 37 million Americans still live in poverty. Some guy is reportedly running for President to change this but since his campaign put out no statement on his poilcy concerning hand-shaking with other sentaors, we have nothing to say about him.

All I saw in "the snub" is a sincere guy who rebuffs the abject insincerity of "Hill", who is one-half of the phoniest politically-conjoined twin freak in the history of US politics.

meh.

They're in it for the long haul. Getting chatty will only muddle up the fight. I don't care much. I thought Hillary did it, at first, and I didn't care then either.

Best guess: the same qualities that make Obama sweet & human are -- well -- making him human. Clinton is doing business as usual and its hard for him not to get inflamed.

They're polar opposites; let them be.

(although I think Obama's got to get a thick skin soon, he's going to end up working with her regardless)

It's called primary psychopathia. Certain individuals in this world mask an inner darkness with massive outward charm. There is a permanent disjoint between their inner and outer persona's.

Obama has all of the classic symptoms, the biological genes inherited from his father, in conjunction with a scattered and dysfunctional relationship with his mother. He was abandoned by both of his parents at different stages of his life.

The father he "dreamed" about was so callous and self absorbed he never even bothered to ask about his family in America when old college chums who knew Barack Jr. and his mother, visited him in Africa.

It is a dangerous affliction because those who have it are so used to covering up their inner demons with superficial charm they are incapable of acknowledging a problem. Plus they appear exceptionally well balanced on the surface except for occasional lapses.

Obama's maternal grandmother refuses to speak about him in public, and the reason is IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT SOMEONE, BETTER TO SAY NOTHING AT ALL. This was the woman who raised him for the majority of his childhood. She is the one person who knows what he is really about before he reinvented himself by writing THE FANTASY TALE OF HIS OWN LIFE, for public consumption.

This is just plain silly, but as to who was the snubber and who the snubbee, did Hillary actually make eye-contact with Barak and extend her hand, or did she simply look at Teddy as if Obama wasn't even there?

And who will they both ask to the prom?

This reads like a high school girl's journal entry.

Nice to see Kid Oakland pushing the same 'Tracy Flick' silliness here as well as on his blog and DailyKos.

Keep saying it and maybe it'll catch on.

As a true Obama supporter, I can't imagine for a moment that Mr. Obama had anything but the nicest, most noble intentions in mind. That Clinton woman, on the other hand, probably engineered this entire episode in order to slime our One True Hope.

C'mon folks, don't fall for this obvious fake.

This is an obvious "false-flag" troll, faking the "Obama supporter" routine in order to undermine the credibility of real Obama supporters.

These fakers are appearing all over the net now, in desperation, out of fear that their true candidate may be losing ground.

And, as for "robert ethan", why don't you just crawl back into the slime-filled cave, where racist pigs like you eat your own.

C'mon folks, don't fall for this obvious fake.
This is an obvious "false-flag" troll, faking the "Obama supporter" routine in order to undermine the credibility of real Obama supporters.

Um, or maybe it was a satirical comment meant to be taken as such, not to fool anyone. I'm an Obama supporter and that's how I read it...the language is totally over-the-top, a "false flag troll" would try to be more plausible.

Ha! That Tracy Flick video is Hill-ari-ous, Kid Oakland! Thanks for posting!

McCaskill, who was traveling with Obama today, dismissed many journalists' interpretation of last night's near-miss.

MCCASKILL: It was not a snub. I had a ringside seat. It was one of those accidents that just happened, caught on film. Frankly, everybody’s spoiling for a fight, which is the politics of old. This campaign isn’t about the politics of old, it’s about new. So it’s unfortunate that everyone’s so anxious for there to be some kind of problem on a personal level. I’ve got to tell you, it’s just not there. I hope that you guys correct the impression that’s out there, that somehow there was some kind of an attempt on the part of Barack to be in any way disrespectful or impolite to Senator Clinton.”

Q. Was there a handshake we missed?

MCCASKILL: “There was a wave. There was a wave. There was a friendly moment. As somebody who watched the whole thing, I was amazed when I woke up this morning and I was part of it. I didn’t even realize. It was one of those things that all of a sudden it’s been blown into something that frankly just wasn’t. We’ve got lots to argue about, that isn’t one of those.”

This whole subject is SO junior high! However, considering the tactics of the Billary campaign against Obama in the last several weeks, I think that Hillary is lucky that she wasn't sucker-punched by Obama! God knows, I would have been happy to do it for him!

If you look at Keith's photos, it appears to me that Clinton wasn't paying attention to EITHER Kennedy or Obama...it looks like Kennedy is the one calling to Clinton and good for him to do so.

Regardless, much ado about nothing...I suppose the Clintons are the ones trying to make something of this, which only serves to how much they really want this election to be a choice of the voters based on issues only...

Blech...

These are some comments on Psychopathology from Dr. Robert Hare of the University of British Columbia, one of the foremost experts in the field.

"Psychological factors of Psychopathy mainly include early childhood deprivation, parental rejection, and loss of parents"

"Charismatic Psychopaths are charachterized by their exceptional verbal skills, and are often great orators. They have boundless charm and are able to convince others to give up everything they have including their lives, in some cases.".

This outtake from the Dowd article(from November) linked above should silence all Hillary fans trying to make an issue out of this....

Mistress Hillary started disciplining her fellow senator last winter, after he began exploring a presidential bid. When he winked at her, took her elbow and tried to say hello on the Senate floor, she did not melt, as many women do. She brushed him off, a move meant to remind him that he was an upstart who should not get in the way of her turn in the Oval Office.
He was so shook up, he called a friend to say: You would not believe what just happened with Hillary.
She has continued to flick the whip in debates. She usually ignores Obama and John Edwards backstage, preferring to chat with the so-called second-tier candidates. And she often looks so unapproachable while they’re setting up on stage that Obama seems hesitant to be the first to say hi.

Let that be the end of it, ok.

false flag trolls?
Fake obama supporters? they're the ones who undermine obama?
First let me say you sound like you play or have played (or been played) way too much D&D, which explains a lot really
Secondly, it goes without saying that obama supporters do a very fine job of undermining themselves.
my third point is that perhaps most obama supporters around here are fake: just hillary haters who think its a man's job
lastly: 50% plus in florida: a million and a half go and vote: how do you like those apples!

This shit can be timed by a stop watch! Obama wins; Hillary exploits an opportunity to play the victim; and the media obliges her.

Political journalists and op-ed commentators need to stop following the crowd and start doing the hard work of questioning the conventional wisdom about Barack Obama as he is running for the job of President of the United States and Commander in Chief.

Here are some questions journalists should ask:

First and foremost, more questions need to be asked about Barack Obama’s admitted use of cocaine and marijuana during his college and high school years. He would get more scrutiny applying for a federal security clearance – and probably be denied -- than he has as a Democratic candidate for President. Questions need to be asked at a minimum about drug dealers and other criminals he may have known during those years and whether he himself committed or abetted any federal crimes during that time. Having had those experiences, it would be helpful for Barack Obama to discuss his views on U.S. policies on the drug trade, legalization, addiction, and directing our youth in more positive directions.

Second, journalists need to address the apparent double standard in the way they are covering the Republican versus the Democratic races. The fierce, almost gladiator-like battle going on between Senator McCain and Governor Romney for the Republican nomination shows a toughness on the part of those men that Democrats and pundits seem to shy away from with regard to Barack Obama and his opponents. It will not serve Barack Obama well – or any of the other Democratic candidates -- to treat him or them with kid gloves. It is more important for Americans to see how the nominees deal with adversity and criticism in the public arena than it is to see how they deal with rock-star-like adoration and hyperbolic comparisons to other great leaders in our history.

Third, it is disconcerting that Barack Obama’s wife publicly stated that this will be his only run for President because of the demands of campaigning on their family life. Most of the other Republican and Democratic candidates appear to be more committed to serving our country at the highest level. Journalists should probe whether Barack Obama’s candidacy is more about him and his short-term needs or about the American people and their needs over the long term.

Fourth, journalists cannot abandon their expected role as being skeptical observers of the American experience. They need to ask very hard questions about Barack Obama’s somewhat thin resume and readiness to be President of the United States and leader of the free world. They need to dig into his background, his voting record, his jobs, his supporters, and more importantly, his detractors and those who do not have flattering things to say about him, and why. They need to ask how it is that someone who Senator Kennedy has mentored is now ready to be the leader of the free world after a mere three years on the national level – where have those leadership skills been and what has he actually led?

These are legitimate questions that Americans need to know before we cast our vote for one of the most important jobs in the world.

Ha, the Hillary conspiracy theorists are amazing! Honestly, these people will manage to find some interpretation to support their argument that Hillary will stoop to anything! Congratulate Obama-someone will say she is being patronising. Contrast herself with Obama-attack! Not mention Obama (only BUSH)-fails to acknowledge Obamas victory in SC. Obamas supporters say nasty things-Hillary pretending to be Obama supporter.

The only consolation is that it actually does appear (as reflected by polls) that people are able to see through the vitriol. Obama/Hillary, Hillary/Obama-both great combinations.

Adamjacobbryant

ps-can the person wanting people to crawl back into their "slime lined caves" not realise that the use of such inflammatory/emotive language simply signals that the author really has NOTHING substantive to say

"First and foremost, more questions need to be asked about Barack Obama’s admitted use of cocaine and marijuana during his college and high school years. He would get more scrutiny applying for a federal security clearance – and probably be denied."

First of all, you shouldn't speculate about things you don't know about. From direct experience, I can say that having such a history wouldn't prevent you from getting a government job - including at the top secret level. What they look for is openness and honesty, something the Clintons seem to have much more trouble with ("I didn't inhale").

And if we are on the topic of full disclosure, why hasn't anyone, to my knowledge, directly asked the Clintons about whether he has been faithful to Hillary since Monica, given: (1) his past history, (2) the likelihood Republicans will unleash on the Clintons with both barrels on this issue, and (3) the fact that a repeat of such behavior, and the resulting media uproar, would almost certainly impair the ability of a Clinton White House to be effective? His impulse control issues cost the Democrats the election in 2000. It would be sad if it happened again in 2008 and beyond.

Good Gods... In Taiwan, every so often, they have all-in brawls on the floor of their legislature. That would be worth the kind of fevered analysis here -- the kind of stuff you'd expect from high school students trying to figure out the social significance of the head cheerleader flicking her hair in the lunch room.

LOL... couldn't agree more Craig.

And please Lisa...shall we turn those same sorts of stoogery questions around on the Clintons? Lots of baggage there, both from the past and quite a bit of time between their last *vetting* and now.

Can we please ignore these Clinton campaign *they're being mean to me* tactics and get down to who's telecom policy is better? Who's health plan really covers whom at what cost? Who's going to leave troops in Iraq and who isn't?

Saying One Thing and Doing Another

Here is why I find Senator Obama suspect and troubling.

In the initial post it says, “Earlier today, his chief strategist said that Obama had known Clinton was there but did not not [sic] want to get in the way of an awkward moment between Sen. Kennedy and Sen. Clinton.”

How does this mesh with his claims of being the one who will bring Unity to America, and how does this bode for his ability to actually function as the head of our government? Regardless of how the perceived snub happened, Senator Obama ought to have been seeking out the opportunity to appear open and magnanimous rather than turning away from it.

The quote from “his chief strategist” also reminds me of the answers he had about not taking a stand against the war while speaking at the DNC in that he seems to shrink from and avoid awkward situations fraught with conflict at the expense of his own beliefs. How will this aspect of his character serve him in complex and expectedly contentious negotiations not just with members of our own Congress, but with leaders throughout the world?

Let’s see if he can actually stick with something, too. As a psychologist myself, I can’t ignore many of the points made by Robert Ethan and this box of possibilities remains open for me. Sustained effort in one direction would run counter to some of these concerns, and no, advancing your own future does not count as an acceptable sustained effort. So the jury is still out on this one.

The picture is further complicated by one of my main critiques of Senator Obama—his vagueness and lack of specificity. I’ve been paying a great deal of attention, and I still can’t tell just what it is, exactly, that each of us as part of this "movement" are expected to do other than vote for him twice, or once in November, and to reflect his charisma back onto him at large rallies.

Time and further analysis will tell. Lisa provides a reasonable framework for how to proceed. With respect to his self-reported upbringing that no one seems to validate or challenge yet, why does he get to invoke his early childhood experiences living in Indonesia as providing him insights into the plight of others as he just did in Kansas, yet not tout his own experiences in his later teen years as providing the basis for understanding just as vital issues confronting our urban societies and youth today? Is it due to political expediency?

And speaking of political expediency, I couldn't help but notice that Senator Kennedy included Straight versus Gay as one of the important divisions in America that Senator Obama would heal, yet Senator Obama himself blatantly left out that one in his own well-planned speech. I thought he was supposed to be different from and above that?

Which brings me back to my title, Saying One Thing and Doing Another. Please, let’s get it right this time.

Obama is our Savior. Stop the attacks, only Obama can heal the wounds inflicted by america on our Muslim brothers. He did not snub Mrs Clinton, she disrespected him by trying to touch hi, she is by defintion a woman and therefore un-pure.

One pic determines 'no-snub' ? Here's a sequence that shows "Claire" never even opened her mouth in any of the photos from the time Clinton was approaching and Kennedy was reaching out to her.

Re the sequence shown: In the first one, Hillary has not extended her arm yet to Kennedy's outstretched one. Obama has turned around and is looking away while McCaskill is clapping, mouth closed, and she is looking in Clinton's direction.

The only attention paid Obama by McCaskill is in the 3rd picture you've noted, when she appears to be trying to hear what he is saying while she is still clapping, mouth closed.

That aside, there's the TIME story about an actual 'snub' before the 'snub' :-)

Good strategy before unity, so I think this one was fine, if at least undeniable.
