He's talking about irresponsible corporate action and the growing gulf between ordinary working Americans and the CEOs whose compensation has skyrocketed while mine (and most of ours) has been lucky to keep up with cost of living. By the way, I heard him in Iowa speak strongly to his audience forcefully reminding them that terrorism is not a joke, and that a principal duty of the President will be to do everything in his power to seek them out and destroy them and their capability to do us harm. This is a republican type comment.
@ progressivedem: Saying he will protect America is not a Republican-type comment...it is an American-type comment. He's not a warmonger or a neocon. A huge argument that resonates with a lot regular, non-partisan Americans is that Dems/Progressives/Liberals are far too weak on National Security issues. Edwards is proving that he is not.
I know they are an unpopular group, often derided and made fun of in the media and by the pundit class, but am I the only one who would actually welcome an effective trial lawyer in the White House for a change?? This country / government has a nearly religious belief in unbridled capitalism i.e. what's good for corporations must be good for America and what might be bad for corporations must be bad for America. Tilting the scales back the other way for a change would be nice (also a departure from the "conventional wisdom" of the political establishment since Reagan) I am not anti-free enterprise, but I'm sure I'm not alone in being sick and tired of Washington looking out more for it's Corporate citizens and constituents than it's individual ones. The role of Government is to pick up the slack for public good where the private sector cannot or will not -- not to facilitate and favor the private sector at the expense of public good.
I would have to agree with the peoples lawyer in his comments reguarding John Edwards. John Edwards is what he need to put this country back on track for our people, including republicans. We truly need to keep religious feeling out of state. We need to refer back to our constitution. That is what has gotten us where we were prior to some of the past administrations and their deviation from our constitution. We should unite as a people and focus on whats best for the many not the few. The few has been the focaus for to long. I think that we should try to see the big picture and not vote on one issue as so many do. I can't understand how poor and/or middle class folks can refer to themselves as republicans. I don't have anything against anybody with different views or values. But, I do think we need a president that will take care of all americans. Thank you for the oppurtunity to vent.
