This was shown on The Chris Matthews Show, about three or four weeks ago.
Greg - this particular compilation couldn't have been shown 3-4 weeks ago since it includes NH tears, but I remember he did have a Tracy Flick bit.
So funny and so true. Ah, the entitlement! What a gal!
Yeah, "take that you uppity bitch" leaves me smiling every time. Woo hoo! Frat party on the blog roll.
This is offensive to me. I guess Matthews apologizing to women yesterday didnt really reach the back of the bus where the cool boys hang out. you must be clueless to find this cute. oh sorry you are clueless!!
Sorry, Marc, but it's not "cute"... it's subliminally racist in the same way that Harold Ford was 'tagged' during his Tennessee Senate run... Suppose someone did a "cute" video of Hillary being weepy eyed over her unappreciated experience with snap images of "Bill being Bill" (with pretty young women in the background, etc.). Why can't people get to the core question: do we want to "change back" to something that we know and may or may not feel comfortable returning to... or do we want to "move on" to something less well defined that evokes similar mixed feelings and concrete uncertainties?
Never heard of the movie, and I wonder why Slate would spend the time putting that together rather than, say, going to one of those candidates' events and asking them questions. I also find Jane Hamsher's comment incoherently incomprehensible, but nothing new there.
Wow, cool movie reference. Wow, not predictable at all. Wow, y'all Slate people are cool hipsters. By that I mean middle aged nerds who are trying too hard.
how can you see racism on an otherwise blatantly sexist video???
Wow, does anyone have a sense of humor anymore? It's a harmless joke. Jeez.
So I suppose "Election" was a sexist movie, too? Give me a break.
People here need to relax. Even Hillary supporters can see the connection. Election is a great movie and best of all for those Hillary fans now on the feinting couch, in the end Tracy Flick wins.
It's a great movie and a funny video. Those inclined to see sexism in eerything will see sexism, but I think it is one of reese Witherspoon's best performances and a VERY apt analogy to the initial reaction of the Clinton campaign to the threat of Obama.
Looks dumb. Does Obama really want to be the President every frat boy looks up too? Obama needs to be an adult someday if he wants to be President and so do his supporters. After Obama's recent comments about not being very good at running things, and being disorganized, and then hearting Ronald Reagan, another loose, hands off President, you'd think Obama supporters would want to copy some of Clinton's seriousness, and thoughfulness, and ditch the childish stuff. I guess not. By the way do all the Obama supporters know that he is running for President of the United States, not President of the Greek Council or Ski Club.
I believe Reese Witherspoon has endorsed Hillary Clinton, by the way.
A composite reaction, if I may: The "subliminally racist" part is the overall implication that Obama is superficial with the momentary image of a young bikini-clad girl dancing next to the image of Obama in a swimsuit: Sorry, Marc, but it's not "cute"... it's subliminally racist in the same way that Harold Ford was 'tagged' during his Tennessee Senate run... And while I don't see this video - or the film that it draws from - as sexist in any sense, the opposite could be composed if one were so inclined: Suppose someone did a "cute" video of Hillary being weepy eyed over her unappreciated experience with snap images of "Bill being Bill" (with pretty young women in the background, etc.). Here's my fundamental point: Why can't people get to the core question: do we want to "change back" to something that we know and may or may not feel comfortable returning to... or do we want to "move on" to something less well defined that evokes similar mixed feelings and concrete uncertainties? I, for one, have not decided whether to vote for Mrs. Clinton or Mr. Obama... but the side that can make the most substantive arguments- whether philosophical, policy-oriented, or programmatic (and all three matter) - without this kind of manipulative imagery will get it! Got it?
So ...what you're also saying with this clip is that Obama is a lovable, but empty-headed BMOC all the kewl kidz love just because he's lovable. You're also saying that some people harbor a really horrible (and perhaps irrational?) grudge against Hillary Clinton --one that might induce them to rig the election so that she won't win. I see.
Roxanne... to whom are you addressing that question? Having made the previous comment which says nothing of the sort and since the previous one is an implicit defense of Mrs. Clinton which you seem to echo, I don't understand your point... ... but on the other hand, if it is to put down Mr. Obama, then you've made your point, I guess.
My comment addresses the original post. The larger context of the movie is about more than just Ms. Flick.
The "young bikini-clad girl" is Obama Girl, someone who was foisted on us by the corrupt MSM as an alternative to doing real reporting. ABC noted it when it only had a few hundred views, now it has over 5 million: youtube.com/watch?v=wKsoXHYICqU I blame the Patriarchy's hegemonical oppression.
Tracy Flick would have read the NIE report.
Congratulations: You have managed to insult and demean two leading Democratic Presidential contenders at once! We have the pushy woman who works SO hard (silly thing) just to be elected. And the silly man in a baseball cap (happens to be black, ha ha) who is inexplicably going against the hard-nosed (silly and mean) woman. Ha ha. Stupid and insulting.
Who ever said feminists don't have sense of humor ? He was right.
David, you don't have to be a feminist to want to take this election seriously. Obviously you don't take this election seriously. Fine. For most of us who ARE taking this election seriously, we know that Bush's "sense of humor" gave America The Worst President Ever. You appear to want a President who you can go have a beer with, and who will give you a special nickname. Us damn feminists -- we're SO demanding!
Not cute at all. How could anyone think it's cute? It degrades Obama & Clinton. Get serious people. BTW - As the Dixie Chicks said "I'm not ready to make nice". Support Edwards. We have a fight on our hands.
We are talking about two ultra-powerful US Senators. They can, and must be, made fun of.
That's funny that Election is being used as a foil for this election, because if memory serves me right, it was about a middle aged white man (teacher) supporting a likeable, but largely vacuous candidate not because he would be a better "President", but because it would keep the girl Tracy from winning. Interesting.
