''If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or (Barack) Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror,'' Romney planned to say in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference.''This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters ... many of you right here in this room ... have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming president. If this were only about me, I would go on. But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country.''

» Mitt Romney Quits Race at CPAC from Outside The Beltway | OTB
Just got signed in at CPAC and the big news is that Mitt Romney is dropping out of the race. He’s using his speech here to announce his withdrawal. His spokesman, Kevin Madden, has confirmed the rumor.

Shorter Mitt: If I keep engaging in a Democratic process, the terrorists win!
Most insane reasoning, ever.
Rethugs are bunch of scare monger clowns. They screwed up the country so badly but they still have audacity to ask for one more chance to rape the country.
Romney, McCain, Huckabee are American Taliban for sure.
The logic is definitely questionable, but it did sound pretty good.
"In this time of war." The most awesome military machine in history considers policing a disparate group of ethnicities and religious sects in the Middle East, each of whom seem to despise the other, a "time of war"???? Mitt - go back to pitching Mormonism in France while others fight your wars...you'd have more credibility if you were actually made of plastic rather than just seemingly made of the stuff.
Two of my "hardcore" republican colleagues just said that they are pissed off and will never ever vote for McCain. They want a real conservative to run as independent and if that does not happen they want Ron Paul to run as an independent!
Republicans are in meltdown.
It's an amusing bit of hubris to hear lay commentors on poltical websites (or any other kind) purport to criticize the logic, de-construct the rhetoric, or even understand the purpose of major players who (in all serious likelihood) outstrip them in their depth of experience and education--not to mention their grasp of the context (which it is very doubtful these sophmoric commentators have read).
If you don't like Romney, so be it. You have a lot of company, and some of it is of good quality. But don't attempt to insult the man's intelligence. "That dog just ain't gonna hunt," as they say.
Shorter Bryan: All must tremble before the awesome intelligence, experience and non-insane logic of Mitt Romney! Also, no further questions.
Bryan, I think people are more insulted by Gov. Romney's stance than his intelligence. He equates a vote for a Democrat with America's "surrender to terror." First, most people would (intelligently) argue that the Iraq war and occupation has weakened our national security militarily, financially and diplomatically. Second, most people would (intelligently) find that Gov. Romney's hard shift to extreme right -- versus running on a record as a pragmatic problem solver -- repelled more voters than it attracted. Third, most people reading this blog would (intelligently) argue that Gov. Romney's hubris partly caused his own downfall. Then again, how intelligent could the man be if he claims his continued presence in the democratic process would ultimately aid Al Qaeda. His dogs just couldn't hunt.

--"...more likely that Senator Clinton or (Barack) Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror"--
what a dick.
don't let the CPAC door hit you in the ass on the way out, you soulless, power-hungry hack.
