Fox News Poll: McCain's GOP Apprvl. At 73%

21 Feb 2008 03:29 pm

About ten to twenty points less than the respective approval ratings of Democrats within their own party, but not bad for a guy allegedly hated by most of his party.

Here's the full poll.

** Clinton and Obama are tied nationally at 44, a slight uptick for her. (Gallup's national tracking also has the race tied, again showing a slight uptick for Clinton.)

** In a general election matchup, McCain beats Clinton by three on the strength of independents and because only 77% of Democrats in the sample say they'd vote for Clinton, compared to the 89% of Republicans who say they'd vote for McCain.

** Obama beats McCain by three points on the strength of independents.

** 63% of Dems want Obama on the ticket if HRC wins; 54% of Dems want HRC on the ticket if Obama wins.

Jeez, Marc, your arms must be tired from all that water you've been carrying today.

Now that Hillary is effectively finished -- has been for a couple weeks now, but who's counting? -- is this what we have to look forward to? Just let me know either way, so I can calibrate my expectations accordingly.

How on earth did you get nominated for that award Marc? the Fox News poll shows Obama closed a ten point gap I believe. So how can you honestly say that the poll shows a slight uptick for her? You're a joke.

Fox poll shows it going from Clinton leading 47-37 to it being tied at 44-44. I would call that a down tick

And the uptick from the Gallup poll is because the poll is taken over three days. The sample of three day ago that got kicked out and replaced by today's was probably way skewed in Obama's favor.
Tomorrow's kicked out group from three days ago will be skewed in favor of Hillary because of the plagiarism story so we should have a better sense of where things stand after WI in one or two days.

Hello, Marc-

Good find w/ the poll, as well as your note that McCain is actually very popular among rank-and-file Republicans.

Looking through the crosstabs, there is more good news for McCain:

McCain is more popular among Dems, than either HRC or Obama is among Republicans. Unfortunately for McCain, Obama is much more popular among GOP voters than HRC - and it looks more and more likely that he will be running against Obama. McCain/Dems is well ahead of HRC/GOP, but only slightly ahead of Obama/GOP.

McCain +/- among all groups

Dems 36% + /47% -
GOP 73% + /19% -
Indies 49% + /33% -

HRC +/- among Republicans - 12% + /86% -.
Obama +/- among Republicans - 31% + /55 -.

McCain is also just as popular among rank-and-file Republicans as GWB - GWB's rating among GOP voters only is 72% +/ 25% -. He's just as popular - and actually viewed less negatively than Bush, even among Republicans.

I Don't trust any news or polls that come from Fox. Wasn't McCain flying around on the Fox owner Rupert Murdoch's plane?

Fox lost alot of credibility this year with conservatives. Today they publish how Huckabee's wife was in Vegas, now after the Times released the MccAin lobbyist scandal, Fox releases this approval poll.
Nice try Fox!

Ya?

Well Mccain rates at a big fat zero with us. Your ratings are wrong because you are polling liberals and Democrats. Us Republicans don't want Mccain a he can't win the General when WE WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM!

His ties to lobbyists are a disgrace.

His campaign budgeting problems are a disgrace!
