Gore Unlikely To Endorse Before 2/5, Although...

01 Feb 2008 01:02 pm

My colleague Joshua Green makes the hearts of TV bookers everywhere go thump-thump-thump.

A well-connected Tennesseean told me two things today that got me thinking about this. The first is that Obama and Gore have been speaking regularly, about every two weeks or so. The second is that, despite this, and despite Tennessee’s primary on Tuesday, Obama has not visited the state since June. It may be simply that he does not plan on competing there. Or it may be that he’s been waiting for a special occasion.

Well, until John Edwards dropped out, he spoke with Mr. Gore fairly often, too.

Gore advisers say they've gotten no indication from their boss that he has decided to endorse, and aides to Obama, while acknowledging the friendship between Mr. Gore and Mr. Obama, do not believe he will endorse.

Help us Obi Wan Ka-Gore-by. You're our only hope.

If Obama adds the considerable weight of Fat Albert II to the leaky vessel that is already carrying the bloated carcass of the last surviving Kennedy brother (only the good die young), it will capsize The Bad Ship Barack.

Only so many of the sheep will be able to cling to the gas filled flotation devices that Junior and Lady Killer would become once they hit the water. Certainly they have lots of love handles between them, but still it's a lot of ruminating bovids to try to save.

I am a reader of the Atlantic and was hoping for a better and more accurate style of reporting on this story "Waiting for Gore". It doesn t seem to me that Mr. Green has fact checked or double sourced his "Waiting for Gore" article.

He could have easily looked at Mr. Obama's schedule on Monday to see that he ll be in East Coast and NE and not TN., or bothered to check Obama's Ads playing in TN before claiming he is ignoring the state.

I wouldn t have been surprised to read the story somewhere else, but it's very disappointing to see it in the Atlantic.

I'd love an Al Gore endorsement right now, but idle speculation isn't a help, I fear.

I think the reverence a lot of Dems have for Gore would translate to key primary and general election votes for Obama. Many of us were hoping Al would throw his hat into the ring, and the "us" includes Hillary and Obama supporters alike.

It would be a major feather in Obama's cap, as would an Edwards endorsement to perhaps a lesser degree. And Gore knows full well the wily ways of the Clintons -- he should endorse Obama.

I just hope that if Barak becomes Prez that he will ask Gore to serve as Sec. of the Interior.

Jon Edwards would be an amazing avenging angel as Atty Gen too...

There are still lots of good people in this country, and I hope Barak reaches out to all

I think that Al Gore will not endorse until after the last primary. Gore doesn't seem all that interested in public office or Democratic politics. I think it is highly likely that he will be appointed to a cabinet level post in an Obama Presidency though.
