(Yes, Sen. McCain really did say this..)

What did he say? Some of us can't watch videos at work...
Margie, basically he called himself a liberal republican, then caught himself, made a joke, and described himself as a conservative republican. The thing is, he was going through the motions and was going to say "a conservative Republican versus a liberal Democrat" and he just mixed up the adjectives. But it's not going to endear him to an already suspicious base.
So the man slipped while speaking. Wow - stop the presses. Why are you such an idiot? Playing this game of "gotcha". Every single human being on this planet makes such mistakes. Especially people who go through gruelling campaigns. Have you no shame? What next - political bleepers and bloopers (quick - call Dick Clark)? If you want to nail McCain - or any other politician for that matter - please try something other than the verbal equivalent of a typo.
Oh and by couching it in "Making The Rounds Of The Bitter Conservative Blogs Today", you don't somehow magically eliminate your cuplability in this type of behavior. Oh yes - it's teh *CONSERVATIVES* who are teh bad guys, not you for posting it. i.e. spreading it around. Reminds me of the Huckabeee "this is the ad I pulled" ploy. Again - shame on you. Try raising the bar.
Entertaining video, but for more substance perhaps Ambinder could ask McCain about this. Ambinder was apparently present when someone asked a related - but weaker - question: youtube.com/watch?v=tIK9ZawRMlg She didn't point out the more damning facts about McCain's staff member, and Ambinder didn't jump in and ask a follow-up nor did he mention those damning facts in his post that mentioned the question.
And the other day they were all crowing over a video Obama made that says things he's said many times before. This is less a sign of McCain's problems with the base than the fact right wing bloggers are idiots.
I love the sixties stuff, the peace symbol and the marijuana. Too bad McCain missed out on all that. He was tied up at the time.
John McCain is becoming a figure of ridicule before our eyes. As gaffe prone as Romney. This whole thing is a joke. A man who is 'tongue-tied' and can't think on the spot. I wonder who that remind me of???
Shouldn't we also make fun of him for accidentally saying he would have a "dispirited" debate with his Democratic opponent?
