One of my favorite subtle nuances of Obama's campaign is the use of "I'm candidate X and I approve this message" in the middle of the ad in a way that integrates it into the ad, rather than some disjunctive addition forced in at the end. The best use thus far was in the Christmas ad when he used the line as a way to toss it over to his daughters who then aimed right for the heart. That meant the ad closed with "Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays" from cute children rather than a hurried "I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message." It just completely changed the tone of the ad, and it's done the same, to a lesser extent, for all his others. 
It's a great ad that all Americans could connect with.. P.S. he looks just like his Mom and his grand-dad.. Wow..
That line about "the last 20 years" is a slap in the face to HRC and her valliant (see: pathetic) effort to get healthcare passed in 1993.
i'm looking at that picture of barack and his mom...and just got chocked up. i can only imagine how hard it must have been in those times to be a visibly white woman raising a visibly black boy--how stacked against her/them the odds must have been. and now, her son will likely be our next president. sad...beautiful.
and i meant to note tha the ad was brilliant; one of the best i've seen. just by watching this ad, i'm more inclined to believe that obama knows what it's like for health care costs to bring heartache, especially in the face of a terminal illness. this ad will connect with the right voters. well done, campaign obama!
What they don't mention in the ad is that Obama's mother married a wealthy Indonesian, moved to Indonesia then sent Barack back to America to be raised by his maternal grandparents. Nor do they mention that he wrote "Dreams of My Father" while she was dying of cancer, thereby alienating his grandmother Maddie Dunham who substantially raised him and kept him in school until he was 32 years old. Granny Dunham refuses to speak of (or to) her grandson to this day.
Convenient for Obama that he can be a "black man" up to the point that all the predominantly black states have voted then morph into a "white man". Michael Jackson would be jealous.
I wonder if anyone who keeps suggesting that Obama "wait his turn" (i.e. 2016)realizes that both his parents died in their early 50's. He may feel that he can't wait that long.

Robert Ethan: Show your evidence. I've searched the web looking for any backing of your charges and found nothing. Is this how you plan to Swiftboat Obama? Because his grandmother is old and infirm and doesn't want to do interviews, there must be some huge schism? You think the Washington Times or NY Post wouldn't be all over this story? Show your evidence.

To Robert Ethan, Granny Madelyn also called toot has always been proud of her grand-son. Senator Obama and his family has always spent christmas in Hawaii with his granny and his sister Maya except this year. Granny Madelyn has been suffering from multiple sclerosis, however she has made a point to let the medias in Hawaii know by phone that she spent her day following her grand-son on CNN. His Sister Maya has been campaigning for him since Iowa, she was also in Nevada and she has been in charge of the ground work for the next primaries in Hawaii.
Obama has a rich, touching, complex family history that tugs at my heart from all angles. It's clear to me that he doesn't PIMP it.
LOL, Dave. "Granny Sarah" is not related to Barack Obama except by virtue of being a wife to Grandpa Hussein Obama at the same time as your boy's paternal grandmother was. Along with a couple of other wives. Obama's biological grandmother abandoned her children, including Barack Sr. and moved to Nairobi. Where she may or may not have worked as a prostitute. "Granny Sarah" is just a convenient media prop set up for the cameras. Brainwashing the Unwashed. The average Obama supporter may not be diligent about personal hygiene, but at least THEIR BRAINS ARE SCRUBBED CLEAN.

To Robert Ethan, No one has been brainwashed, Granny Sarah raised Barack Senior and She is the one taking care of his grave since he was buried in her backyard. The most amazing thing that has emerged in this campaign is the utterly arrogance of Senator Obama critics who when they fall short of arguments turn automatically to insults. I have african roots just as Senator Obama and know something about african culture. In Africa, your parents are the one that raised you not the one that gave birth to you. I've been visting my grand-mother in Tanzania every year since i was 8 years. She took my dad after his mother death when he was five years old, she was the second wife of my grand-pa. I have always known her as my grand-mother.

Some quibbles - 1. Traven - Obama was not raised in a classic "low-income single Mom" setting. He went to the poshest schools in Indonesia, Hawaii, then hooked up into huge affirmative action Bonus Points and scholarships in his college studies. 2. Most of his childhood, he was raised by his reasonably well off grandparents while his Mom galavanted about....and his feckless "biological Dad" looked to marry another American so he could get a residency visa, failed, and failed again once he returned to Kenya - where he died jobless and penniless. 3. Robert Ethan makes a speculative smear on the white grandmother not born out by actual events. But perhaps if Obama had been more grateful, he might have written his 1st book as homage to his Mom and white grandparents rather than the "rolling stone biodaddy". Who was virtually absent from his life, as well as his "Kenyan" family which was also absent from his life or any influence on his success. They exist as "players" simply because he did a "Roots" trip to see who they were - and maybe (and this is speculative) because as a biracial raised white, that politically, they help shore up his "blackness". Just as his Indonesian cousins, sanititized of course of the pesky Muslim matter, confirm The Obama's great Wisdom of international matters, because he lived with his 2nd family growing up and knows the "Brown People's Ways" enough that he had the Great Epiphany to vote against going into Iraq.. 4. Obama has a rich, touching, complex family history that tugs at my heart from all angles. Maybe it is true that any family abandoned by a black father has a "rich history". So we may be calling most of the black underclass "fortunate" before too long. But backers of McCain, Edwards, Romney, Hillary can also point to "rich family histories that tug hearts from all angles". And Obama pimps his "extended rainbow family" as frequently and as prominantly as John Edwards pimps his "poor millworkers son" theme. In just about every "soaring, inspirational, and content-void" speech he gives. 5. Ethan does appear correct that Obama's real bioGrandmommy abandoned her family and went to Nairobi to seek her own path. (That she worked as a whore is speculation, though it is one of the main professions of unattached village females in Africa that move to the Big City.) And Ethan is right that "Grandma Sarah" is an Obama artifice in that she is simply the mother in law from one of 2-3 other relationships Barack Senior got into in establishing his international harem. She has nothing to do with Obama's lineage.

One member of Obama's VERY extended African family he no longer "pimps" is his cousin Raila Odinga, the "CHANGE CANDIDATE" in the Kenyan election. Cousin Raila is under a bit of a microscope lately in regard to ETHNIC CLEANSING by his and Obama's Luo tribe directed at the majority Kikuyu in Kenya. Cousin Raila Odinga is on the list of prominent Kenyans to have their visas revoked due to "provoking violence" in that country. He is also on the list as a "person of interest" in the eyes of an international tribunal that is in the early stages of formation in order to investigate WAR CRIMES committed in Kenya over the past month and a half. Since Odinga lost the Kenyan election and was UNWILLING TO SUBMIT HIS COMPLAINTS TO A COURT OF LAW. Cousin Raila may yet end up in a Court of Law, but he is likely to be in shackles when he does. Just like Obama's LONG TIME FRIEND AND SUPPORTER Antoin Rezko, along with his cohorts Abdulmuhamid Chaim, and Ali Ata. In regard to the MASSIVE POLITICAL CORRUPTION that is endemic on the SOUTH SIDE OF CHICAGO.

Convenient how Robert Ethan fails to mention that his own upbringing and family background are nothing to brag about. I hate this kind of duplicity. It really is politics as usual. The truth is Robert's mother was a dancer at Studio 54 and his father was one of Andrew Sullivan's beagles. Robert's parents shared a love for disco and qualudes, but this was not enough to sustain their relationship and it lasted only long enough to spawn hairy little Robert Ethan. Before Robert's birth, his father left to live in a kennel in some place called Ptown, leaving his mother to struggle on through pregnancy alone. To make matters worse, as soon it became obvious that she was pregnant, Rob's mom lost her job at Studio 54. Even by the debauched standards of the time, a pregnant professional disco dancer off her face on qualudes was unacceptable; Steve Rubell had no choice but to fire her. Destitute and alone, Robert's mom gave birth to hairy little Robert Wilkes Ethan under a bridge. Growing up was tough for Robert as children can be so cruel, and little Rob's excessively hirsute aspect meant he was shunned as a child, forcing him to spend lonely years under that bridge, with little else for company other than the fish he caught with the rod he made with his bear hands. Those long formative years spent under the bridge ruined Robert Ethan's posture which didn't nothing to improve his increasingly sullen disposition. Fearing that Rob's attitude may hold him back, his mother scrimped and saved so she could send him to renowned neurologist Dr. Walter Freeman. Freeman, unfortunately was a one trick pony, and an overly zealous one at that. He believed he could cure all of Robert Ethan's problems with an "ice pick lobotomy". As was often the case, this "medical" procedure did nothing to improve the young man's demeanor. Happily, Robert Ethan was the last person to be lobotomized in the US by Dr. Walter Freeman. Sadly, Robert Ethan has grown up to be a little bit grumpy. He left his bridge but he can now be found on the internets, where he bores people with made up stories about other people's families. Worst of all, he blames the disco scene for all the slings and arrows of his life and he fears that an Obama Presidency will reignite people's love for Disco. He will stop at nothing to prevent this happening.

Haliburton has contracted to build detention centers in the U.S. similiar to the one in Quantanammo Bay, Cuba. Frawley, to train Iraqi power-plant guards in the United States. An Iraqi leadership change left the deal in limbo. Now the company, Companion Security, is working to revive its contract. Obama should be vetted and disclose his connection to the criminal money generating underworld. Besides, his connections to the REZCO MAFIA types, his up-coming tax fraud charges — Obama needs to disclose why he is a Muslim and stop suppoting our intervention in IRAQ. It’s time to shove an introduction to this fake rip-off Obama and invite the thief pipsqueke to meet the Waukesheake Police Department

I'm surprised that the Obama campaign does not tell his mother's story more often. It might help him with lower-income single mothers, who so far seem to prefer corporate lawyer Hillary.
