Romney Easily Wins Maine's Republican Caucuses (Updated)

02 Feb 2008 08:00 pm

According to the Associated Press, Mitt Romney won 53% of the vote, followed not at all closely by John McCain, who won 21% and Ron Paul, who won 19%.

Mr. Romney's campaign spent money to turn out voters, whereas Mr. McCain's did not. But every statewide elected official was with McCain, and Sens. Snowe and Collins spoke at caucuses on Maine's behalf. The Romney campaign's star campaigner in the state was eldest son Tagg.

Turnout was said to be unusually high even as an ice storm cut off parts of the state.

The Romney campaign released a fairly pro forma statement, saying Mainers "cast a vote for conservative change."

Maine sends 21 delegates to the national convention.

The caucus doesn't end till Sunday. And I believe it is 18 delegates.

Sounds like people in Maine care about America. Way to go Maine. Go Romney

While Romney is my second choice, he has been getting LOTS of media attention.

PEEP THIS....

(if this post even makes it to the board, that is!)

Well that is unfortunate--I can't understand what people see in Romneybot.

Hunc is the next one to drop out. Then there will be three.

I just hope that Maine doesn't do the Louisiana rule change after the election.

McCain is not a conservative. Romney deserves the vote.

@ allen

Amen, brother! When will the REAL stats be released for Louisiana already??? The details on what went on there would have fired anyone in the corporate world!!!

How can you look and listen to Mitt Romney and not throw up? He's a fake, phony, only in it for power.

Do you know a RINO when you see one?

Mccain isn't a conservative, and neither is Romney... and neither is Huckabee.

Do the math.

Okay, all the political pundits who predicted Ron Paul would hit 19% in a state, raise your hand. Most thought he would never make it to Iowa, and his support was a few dozen spammers. Somehow they raised $20 million to lead all Republicans in the fourth quarter, though.

The best prediction I heard is that he would hit 5 to 10 percent in a few states. So far, he's at 19% in Maine, 14% in Nevada, 10% in Iowa, and he did fairly well in Louisiana and Wyoming, although specific results weren't released.

So Romney is overly polished. Not a big deal to me. Better that than a resentful, short-fused McCain.

@ Cedric

Thanks for the Ron Paul endorsement, let me help you out....

RON PAUL: TRUE CONSERVATIVE

-never voted to raise taxes
-never voted for an unbalanced budget
-never voted for restriction on guns
-never voted to raise gov't pay
-never took a government-paid junket
-never voted to increase power of the executive branch.
-voted against the abominable "Patriot act"
-voted against regulating the Internet
-voted against the Iraq war from day 1

Paul always voted 4 the constitution

This is good. We need to split the vote. Let none of them win. They don't deserve it. None are conservative in the way we'd like especially not the new "candidate for change" Mitt Romney. Romney and Huckabee are both very weak candidates which is why McCain is rising. I hope that on super Tuesday Huckabee wins some and Romney wins some and McCain wins some. I want a brokered convention.

Check my Top Ten Reasons for "supporting" McCain, the big phony:

1. He promises to catch Osama Bin Laden. Question is, if he does catch him, will he then fine him $3000, grant him amnesty, and give him a lifetime Z-Visa? Probably, but only if Ted Kennedy agrees to it.

2. McCain claims that he is the only real conservative because when he participated in a spelling bee in grade school, he was asked to spell that very word. McCain proudly remembers yelling out: “conservative, L-I-B-E-R-A-L “

3. He claims to know everything about the economy but won’t respond to any questions about it. That’s OK because he says that he can always hire managers.

4. The answer to every question he is asked in a debate, regardless of the topic, is “I’m strong on Iraq.” He says this simplifies things and then proudly claims that he is above answering any of these questions anyway because he (and any legislation he would propose) is the only answer to any problem that could ever arise in America.

5. The word Amnesty doesn’t exist in his vocabulary. Therefore, there can be no such thing as granting amnesty to anyone.

6. He claims that Ronald Reagan would strongly support him because, just as Al Gore invented the internet, McCain invented the conservative movement.

7. If he is elected, McCain promises to finally stop saying “listen, my friends” before responding to any question.

8. McCain acknowledges that he is no Jack LaLane, but states that his age shouldn’t matter because he will promise to get brain scans once a week, if elected.

9. McCain promises that he will continue to “reach out” to the most extreme liberal Democrats, like Feingold and Kennedy, so he doesn’t appear to be too conservative.

10. Finally, my favorite. Bill Clinton says that a Hillary/McCain contest would be the most civil in the history of the US. To prove Bill correct, McCain promises to hold hands with Hillary across the podiums every time they debate. Bill says that’s OK with him because he can go out and chase another fat chick while they’re debating.

Had enough?? Then vote for Romney!!!! Go MITT!!!!

Friends, countrymen, people who hate Dr. Ron Paul, lend me your ears; I come to bury Ron, not to praise him. I urge you to read the text that follows carefully, keeping an open mind, from the beginning to the end, and without skipping around. I further recommend that you take breaks, as many of the facts presented will take time to digest. A brief study of sociology will show one inescapable fact: Wherever you look, you'll see him enforcing intolerance in the name of tolerance. You'll see him suppressing freedom in the name of freedom. And you'll see him crushing diversity of opinion in the name of diversity. The bottom line is that Dr. Ron Paul's attitude is really, "You don't agree with me; therefore, you must be a beastly big-labor boss".

Uh, the caucuses are not over Mr. Ambinder. In your rush to push this article, you have failed to check if the caucuses were completed. No Pulitzer again for you my friend. Now if you are claiming ESP, then maybe you can help find Bigfoot.

As Maine goes, so goes the nation. Mitt makes zero campaign stops in Maine, spends no money, and gets more votes than everybody else combined. That's pretty close to what happened in Wyoming, only there he actually spent a day campaigning and got more than 2/3rds of the total vote. Conservatives are riled up and they are getting mobilized. Mitt is leading in the Georgia poll just released by Public Policy, and is tied in the national Rasmussen tracking poll today with 30% to McCain's 30%. By Tuesday, Mitt will be ahead.

I don't care if Ron Paul wins any states in the primaries or gets on the ballot in November...he's the ONLY candidate that will be getting my vote, even if I write it in. GO RON PAUL!

Way to go, Maine conservatives!!

No delegates awarded (which is why no one but Romney put anything into the state):

"[A]ll of Maine's delegates are supposed to be unpledged, no matter what happens"

Most losers know when to drop out. Huckabee does not because he wants to play the part of the spoiler.

A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain....which is a vote for either Obama or Hillary.

Way to go Maine! Hopefully the rest of the country will follow your lead and vote for a true conservative who has the intellect and experience to get our government back on track.
Vote for Mitt Romney!

McCain has no problem killing people or letting them be killed, so I'm sure he won't give Osama ( not Obama)amnesty, but you can bet he won't allow Osama to be waterboarded. McCain is tweaked in the head, I think he was held captive a little too long.

MIke Huckabee: nice guy, a lot of fun-not the sharpest pencil in the drawer. Some of his answers on foreign policy and the economy are scary. He could propel us into a depression. Is that the legacy you want to leave your children and grandchildren? (Romney was valedictorian, and has a joint MBA/JD from Harvard. He launched Staples and Dominos. He eats economics for breakfast).
McCain: thank-you for your service in the war, and we have compassion for your horrendous experiences in it. But the Presidency? This would be another very scary choice because:
1. McCain has a violent temper. He has screamed the “F” word frequently at his fellow congressmen. By his own admission, he loses it…a lot. Some feel that there is residual psychological damage from his years spent as a POW. One congressman put it this way “You don’t want that guy anywhere near a trigger” (that includes nuclear triggers of the Presidential kind)
2. McCain admits he know almost nothing about the economy. With our country teetering, we need a savvy, sharp, economocally brilliant President. Asia is at the door. A depression is not out of the question. We don’t have time to mess around with bigotry. We need someone who can turn this economy around-fast.
3. McCain and Hilary are very good friends. They went to Estonia together as Senators and held a drinking contest. This level of maturity is reserved for the immature, not people who want to run the (currently) most powerful country on the earth.
We no longer have time for high school popularity contests. We desperately need a real leader with serious intelligence.
We have friends who know the Romney family well. They really are wholesome. They will not bring scandal to the White House. They will keep it “white”. Mitt is not in this for the fame or power. He didn’t take a salary in Masachusetts, he won’t as President. He simply wants to help, and he knows how.
The smartest thing we could do for our posterity is to vote for Mitt and encourage others to do the same.

Way to go Maine!! Hopefully the rest of the country will follow your lead and elect the real conservative candidate with the greatest intellect and experience to get our nation back on track. The Romney Resergance has started! Vote for Mitt Romney!

Way to go Maine! As a Floridian, I can assure you it must feel so much better right about now residing in a state that got it right rather than one that allowed McCain to stay in this race. But, ah, maybe there's a caveat...McCain's pompous attitude has been in overdrive ever since his slight victory here. In McCain's mind, his little lie about Romney paid off: it won him Florida, it landed him myriad big name endorsements, and he's up in the polls going into ST. The only thing more disgusting than Angry Little John is when he's happy, because you can just tell he thinks he's so great, that he's so owed everything...he's such a liberal, I'm baffled how he won Florida.

Anyway, I think a lot of us are shocked by his resurrection, and more of us appauled by his lies, and motivated to defeat him over the coming weeks. If Romney pulls this off, holy cow. An unknown small-state Governor outlasts big name guys Rudy, Fred Thompson, and John McCain, the latest who had all the big establishment endorsements and all the momentum. Now that will be a reality that will burn John-John harder than how badly Bush kicked his ass in 2000.

We'll see how things pan out on Tuesday. If it's a close one, I think you have to say it's Advantage Mitt. If McCain wins much more than half of the delegates up for grabs, then it's Bob Dole time for our party again and it's time to watch at least 4 years of Hillary and Bill back in the WH cuz Obama has far less of a chance to catch her than Mitt has to run down McCain. Which is telling by the way, that the media are treating McCain as a sure thing, while they bleed on about how tight the race for the DemNom is between Hillary and Obama.

Anyway, depending on our race, we'll soon know if we're hanging onto the WH, or if it's 1976 all over again.

Here is the dirty big secret that Dick Morris, the Democrats and liberal media do not want McCain and Huckabee supporters to understand until AFTER the Republican primary is over:

1. a vote for Huckabee at this point in the race is a vote for McCain. Huckabee cannot win the primary and is almost out of money.

2. a vote for McCain in the Primary is a vote for Obama or Clinton in the general election.

McCain cannot win the general election and without the base of the Republican party McCain, like Dole before him, will loose. The base will never support liberal McCain. Anyone voting on super Tuesday and beyond who is considering McCain or Huckabee needs to think long and hard about the impact of their vote. If you prefer President Obama or Clinton over Romney, then vote for McCain or Huckabee my friends.

ALL REPUBLICANS NEED TO FLOOD THE INTERNET WITH THIS MESSAGE, SHARE AND DEBATE IT WITH MCCAIN AND HUCKABEE SUPPORTERS AND TAKE BACK OUR PARTY………WE WILL WIN THE WHITEHOUSE IN ‘08!! GO MITT!!!!

When are you americans gonna wake up and appreciate you have a candidate there who represents real change and god knows you need it. Obama,Clinton,Huckabee and Romney are just more of the same rubbish. You dont know how lucky you are to have a candidate with the integrity of Ron paul. Just wake up out of that media induced coma.

Here is the dirty big secret that Dick Morris, the Democrats and liberal media do not want McCain and Huckabee supporters to understand until AFTER the Republican primary is over:

Yep, the socialists of New England love those promise the government teat at the expense of young workers - who have no chance at their parents' retirement plan. Young people, invest in gold and silver, shun the dollar investments.

This election is much different than all others in our nations history. This time we all vote for one of two directions for our Nation; we either vote for American Constitutionality or we vote for United Nations Socialism. All the candidates are socialists by definition of their actions, all candidates except for Dr. Ron Paul. Learn the difference before you find yourself saying, "what do you mean I need a passport to go to Indiana?" & "The passport is going to cost me how much or I'll go to jail?"...

I agree with Doug in Florida. The Hickabee is being very unChristian. The only reason that guy's still in this race is to mire Romney's support from the social conservatives. And of course slime-ball McCain's sweetening the deal for Mike to cast aside his christianity in the name of political reward. Baptists should be ashamed of Huck's role of political assassin; it's really sickening.

But not as detestable as McCain's lies, during which he smiles...I just want to deck him in his pastey white head when he lisps on with his straight talk B.S. It's true that a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain which is a vote for Hillary or Obama. McCain cannot win enough moderates in a general election to compensate for the Republicans who won't vote for him. He'd have to more than quintriple his usual appeal to the mods/swings/undecideds to compensate for lost republicans.

But the math isn't even the issue. It's a freaking scam that the mods would vote for John against a Dem anyway. Sure they love him enough to vote for him in Republican races, but not against a Dem. They'd drop him faster than McCain dropped his first wife.

Actually, it's going to be fun to watch happen since it looks like the little rat is going to capture the GOP nomination. It'll be hilarious watching how angry he gets when the media suddenly turns on him once he's successfully screwed the republicans after the convention. No longer will they let him get away with outright lies about other candidates, lies about his own record, cluelessness about anything economic, and free passes from actually having to answer questions beyond saying how he served for patriotism, he led, he knows how to lead, he promises he'll get bin Laden because he just knows he will, I'll do it through making our intelligence better, better meaning I'll get rid of Gitmo, grant terrorists due process in american courts, and take away waterboarding, my friends, he comes from a border state, he knows how to do that (even though he hasn't done it there either)...I mean, this guy's the biggest joke in the world and to think Dubya makes the GOP look bad, ha!, just wait till McCain is "our guy"...lol.

Anyway, McCain, all your sins are about to demand repayment

"As Maine goes, so goes the nation."

2004 general Election Maine results:

Kerry 54%
Bush 45%
Nader 1%

You got it backwards, Brother.

Romney is not a politician so he doesn't have the slick delivery others do. But to me this is a positive. The politicians have messed things up...including McCain. We need a change and I think Romney's the one. He can work with world leaders and will impress them instead of yelling at them with four-letter words like McCain.

Romney took no pay from Massachusetts and only $1 from the Olympics. He's spending his own money on the race. I believe he wants this job not for power or money, but to be of service to our country. I support him.

Congratulations, Maine! Thanks for choosing a man with conservative values for America.

I wouldn't get too excited about Ron Paul's numbers. Mainers like to be onry and defy conventional wisdom.

Ross Perot beat GHW Bush in Maine and Bush has a home here. Also Maine has elected independent governors twice.

Way to go Maine !!!!!!!!!!!!

Rut roh....fools gold...No delegates...

Question: If a state has a vote and there are no committed delegates does it make a noise? Only for Mittens.

Mitt has been great at winning when it doesnt matter. Great hair. No soul.

A VOTE FOR HUCKABEE IS A VOTE FOR MCCAIN...GO MITT! HE'S THE REAL DEAL!

Thank you, Maine! A beautiful state, amazing cuisine, great people, Maine Coons (the absolute best cat breed), and now this! Thank you for shifting the momentum back to Mitt. It's on to victory for Mitt on Super Tuesday!

Actually, Peter from Dover, Maine's got 21 delegates you stupid bastard.

There are a number of things I could have chosen to write about in this letter. I could have chosen to write about how I must protest Dr. Ron Paul's use of the most deceitful twerps you'll ever see to achieve his unscrupulous goals. Or I might have chosen to write something about the way that it would be a mistake to believe that he never engages in improvident, revolting, or phlegmatic politics. But, instead, I've decided to devote this entire letter to explaining how inequality does not beget equality. When writing this letter, I had originally intended to segregate the pure errors of fact in Ron's comments from the assertions of questionable judgment where there could be room for dispute. I eventually decided against that approach because it takes more than a mass of scary mob bosses to resolve our disputes without violence. It takes a great many thoughtful and semi-thoughtful people who are willing to exercise all of our basic rights to the maximum.

There is something grievously wrong with those inerudite opportunists who fortify a social correctness that restricts experience and defines success with narrow boundaries. Shame on the lot of them! The concepts underlying Ron's mendacious, gruesome hatchet jobs are like the Ptolemaic astronomy, which could not have been saved by positing more epicycles or eliminating some of the more glaring discrepancies. The fundamental idea -- that the heavens revolve around the Earth -- was wrong, just as Ron's idea that a book of his writings would be a good addition to the Bible is wrong. My next point will be so cogent that even Ron will be able to understand it. Specifically, if Ron can't stand the heat, he should get out of the kitchen. One might conclude that what I really want from him is an apology. Alternatively, one might conclude that I wouldn't waste my time trying to push a consistent vision that responds to most people's growing fears about shameless election-year also-rans if his biases weren't parroted by so many power-hungry twaddlers. In either case, he must have some sort of problem with reading comprehension. That's the only explanation I can come up with as to why he accuses me of admitting that his sophistries are good for the environment, human rights, and baby seals. What I actually said is that by allowing Ron to judge people based solely on hearsay, we are allowing him to play puppet master.

We don't have to stand for this! Given a choice of having Ron deny us the opportunity to punish those who lie or connive at half-truths or having my bicuspids extracted sans Novocaine, I would embrace the pliers, purchase some Polident Partials, and call it a day. I will never give up. I will never stop trying. And I will use every avenue possible to shed the light of truth on the evil that is Ron. And there you have it. Dr. Ron Paul's weltanschauung is that he knows 100% of everything 100% of the time.

I was at a gathering of six close friends tonight, all of whom have voted Rebublican each presidential election since the 80's. All had decided independently that they absolutely would not vote for McCain if he is the nominee.

Remember, a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain is a vote for Hillary or Obama.

I can just see if hell froze over and Mitt was the nomanee...

The dems will make a commercial using the creepy burger king plastic guy with a Mitt head and hair. The commercial will feature the king of the whoppers and start Mitt the best burger flipper of them all. I can just see it.

Vote for Mitt is a Vote for Billery.

McCain is the vote for the safety of our great nation.

Dan,

Thanks for your respectful post. For those not informed. The ME delegates are uncommitted. This means they can vote for whomever they want at the convention. This makes the ME caucuses meaningless. Check into it. I understand they have delegates but they are not committed.

Sorry to burst another Mitt delusion.

As soon as I heard "Ron Paul, 19%" I thought "Maine's gotta be a caucus state". Sure enough...

Caucuses are a joke that can be skewed by a small number of people just like all the internet polls that falsely showed big support for Paul because his supporters abused them. This is especially true in a small state like Maine. The reality is more like Florida, where you had a real vote - Paul 3%.

By the way I'm not saying this to dig on Romney, who I like and plan to vote for next Tuesday. But this result in Maine is, unfortunately, meaningless.

For all the bull shit that you people talk about with McCain, consider this: In 1994, he ran against Ted Kennedy of all people for senate. And he said "I support the right to privacy of a woman to have an abortion." He also said "I will be more pro-gay rights than Ted Kennedy." Ouch to Ted Kennedy! The fact that I am trying to make here is that Mitt is a panderer. He knew that to represent Massachusetts he would have to be liberal. SO HE PANDERED TO THE ELECTORATE AS A LIBERAL. As governor of mass, he increased fees by $240 million. He also MANDATED health care. Last time I checked, DEMOCRATS WANT MANDATED HEALTH CARE! Fast forward to 2008. Mitt Romney is running for president, and a light bulb goes on for him saying "Ya know what, I'm gonna try and pander with the conservative electorate this time." The guy just goes where the wind blows. All of a sudden, he is vehemently opposed to gay marriage and abortion, and is trying to be the Reagan conservative. I'll tell you what. I disagree with McCain ideologically, but if you don't get out and vote for the Mac, keep in mind that you're also voting to get out of Iraq. I think that, while it will be hard for conservatives to swallow McCain's domestic policies, they can agree on the fact that his stance on the war makes him the best candidate to protect our troops. Lastly, electability. I have seen continuous polls, when Mitt is up and when he is down, that show him not only losing to Obama and Hillary, but getting BLOWN OUT. He's losing to Obama by 18 points, and Clinton by 12. McCain is the only republican candidate BEATING OBAMA AND CLINTON. Get this, even friggin John Edwards, while he is out of the race now, was beating Romney by, get this, 22 POINTS! OUCH! JOHN EDWARDS IS WORSE AND HE'S BEATING ROMNEY?! HAH! The fact is that while Mitt Romney is the clear conservative now, just as he was the clear liberal in 1994, 10 years from now he'll be the PERFECT INDEPENDENT OR GREEN PARTY CANDIDATE! McCain, at the very least, stands on his principles. Romney is not authentic, while McCain is, and I hope Romney gets crushed on Super Tuesday. I'll tell you what will get conservatives out to vote for McCain. It's the guy who has caused the whole fracture of the party: The Current President. When he attends the RNC in September, he's gonna probably make the opening speech to the convention. Now keep in mind that the republican electorate is split on Bush. They're not sure whether to stay with him, because of all the bad he has done, or abandom him. They feel that they don't want to be in the crowd that says "I was a 2 time supporter of the worst president of the United States." I don't think anyone wants to say that. He'll get up at the convention and say that John McCain is the man to vote for. I saw an article this week too that said Bush had privately admitted to his staffers that Romney's stance on immigration is "too hard line." That's the president of the republican party saying that. Now, let's not forget that Reagan himself granted amnesty to illegal immigrants in 1986. And for all the talk of "O, let's do everything Reagan did" well maybe they should actually do that, and handle this situation compassionately. And finally, Romney said "I'm not trying to return to a third term of Reagan-Bush. WHAT?!? This is the party of Reagan, and I can guarantee you that is not what republicans want to hear. I'll tell you what: In an election where authenticity matters, Romney is not authentic. He runs negative ads against Huck and Mac in Iowa and NH and loses both states. He outspends everyone in SC and FLA, and loses, as usual. Look at the places he's won:Wyoming, Nevada, and Michigan. Wy and NV are full of Mormons, so of course he'll win there. And his father was governor of Michigan, so naturally he'll win there. But if he couldn't win in the state of SC, conservative voting, I don't see how he'll win the GE. He's also seen as the most negative candidate and the most polarizing republican, meaning that while he would attract the voters of his own party, some moderates, like myself wouldn't vote for him, and neither will independents. He could NEVER win democratic voters like McCain could, and I think that the conservative base will turn out if they want to stay in Iraq, as opposed to not voting for him and leaving. I'll probably see Romney 2maro walking down my street, and he'll try to convince me that he's pro-animal rights and pro-environment. The key word is TRY! Even Sean Hannity said that while he disagrees with McCain, he would vote for him because he wants to stay in Iraq. Newt also said that he would support McCain. Now if we can just get that pinhead Rush...............

I love how Mitt has been ignored by the media. They are wetting themselves in awe of McCain's awesome momentum coming out for Florida. Are they watching the same election as I am? Let's break down his Romney's Stats Vs. McCain to see who has the wider appeal.

State/Winner/Margin
Iowa - Romney beats McCain by 12%
Michigan- Romney Beats McCain by 9%
New Hampshire- McCain wins by 5%(Impressed?)
Nevada- Romney wins by 38%!
South Carlolina- McCain wins by 18% (Best Ever)
Florida- McCain wins by 5%
Wyoming- Romney wins by 67%!
Maine- Romney Wins by 31%

So let's just add this up. Romney beats McCain in 5 out of 8 primaries.
Romney's total margin over McCain is 157% for his wins.
McCain's total Margin over Romney is 28%.
It's obvious who more people want to Represent the Republican party.
McCain's managed to slip in a few wins over Romney, but when Romney wins it's a landlaslide.
The real question is when will Huckabee learn how to be a gracious loser and bow out. He's not a bad candidate for us true conservatives, but he doesn't have a prayer. When you lose to Ron Paul in a primary, that's your queue to give a nice speech to your campiagn staff, kiss your wife for the cameras, and start hoping for a VP spot. All he's doing now is splitting the true conservative vote. For all of us out there getting ready to vote on Super Tuesday, remember, a vote for Huckabee is a vote for the Pseudo-Conservative McCain.

Sean Hannity said he will vote for Mitt Romney!!!

Mitt Romney's successful business experience, successful Olympic experience, and successful state governing success
set him above all other candidates. His vision of using economic strength to combat terrorist and his Apollo plan for energy independence are also set him above all other candidates.
He is a real leader who can lead American to build a strong economic and therefore a strong nation!
Hope American people will elect Mitt Romney, the only competent candidate, to be our president.

How could any moderates and liberals backs war monger McCain. McCain wants to bomb Iran and stay in Iraq for 100 years and promised for more wars. McCain says he wants interest rates to be ZERO out of complete ignorance for how interest rates affect the economy. I'd like to see him say that to retirees on a fixed income. McCain want 10 million illegal immigrants to stay permanently and legal immigrants who can vote do not support it. How could this country be secure if he is in power??? If McCain is nominee, as a republican I would rather vote Clinton than McCain. As least we know Clinton has some intelligence and lead the booming economic. McCain will lead this country to a total ruin with his lack of intelligence and no executive experience. Mitt Romney is an expert in economics and finance and is the man we need as president.

If anyone can rescue the economy at this point, it would have to be Mitt. The US is $53 trillion in debt, that is $400K per household. The dollar is becoming useless and the Euro is now becoming the credible currency. Along with the national debt, most citizens are also deeply in debt. Tommorow the market is likely going to take a dump. If we don't have a good economy you can forget foreign policy, fighting wars, or healthcare, funding for top education. The economy needs to be front and center, not religion, steriotypes and other trivial things.

It’s time to remind the public about the Keating 5. Here the banks are falling appart and the economy is going into recession and we want to reward a slime ball like McCain who was wrapped up with Charles Keating, the guy who tanked Lincoln Savings & Loan, driving a previous recession? Go figure. Given what this did to the economy in the early 90’s, McCain should have just taken a baseball bat to the knee caps of the American people. Mitt is too kind to this power hungry geriatric sellout!
John McCain has allowed countless billions of American dollars to be siphoned out of this country into Mexico alongside the countless billions of taxpayer dollars spent on health care, education, welfare, crime and mortgage bailouts for illegal aliens. John McCain, in his support for illegal immigration, has allowed Al Qaeda terrorist to use Mexican drug smuggling tunnels to enter the United States and plot to attack Fort Huachuca in southern Arizona. This litany of positions contrary to conservatism and American interests could go on and on.

A VOTE FOR HUCKABEE IS A VOTE FOR MCCAIN!! Get a real conservative elected and save our economy!
GO MITT!!

I will forever think of Mitt Romney as the man who strapped his Irish Setter atop the family station wagon, then drove 1200 miles drive to Ontario, Canada.

Animal abuse is not presidential behavior, and further suggests that Mr. Romney may be psychopathic in the clinical sense.

I will forever think of Mitt Romney as the man who strapped his Irish Setter atop the family station wagon for a 1200-mile drive to Ontario, Canada.

Animal abuse is not presidential behavior. As well, Mr. Romney's inability to grasp that there is anything wrong with such behavior suggests to me a that he has a psychopathic personality disorder.

Fairness,
here is a little surprise for you, Huckabee has never had any money so he has run the most fiscally responsible campaign of anyone. If he had even 1/10th of the personal money that Mitt made from his great hedge fund experience, this race would be in his pocket. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for the successful governor and not the phony who changes every year. Drop out Mitt, and let Mike win.

The claim that Huck has run a more fiscally responsible campaign than Romney is ridiculous. Huck gets people to vote for him by making pastors feel like it's their religious duty to encourage their congregations to vote for Huck. When there are millions upon millions of evangelicals engaging in that kind of dubious behavior on Huck's behalf, he doesn't need any money at all.

I hope that ALL the RINOs in the Republican Party realize that they are voting for a person who will be embarassed in November as ALL of the TRUE Conservatives stay in their nice warm and cozy homes and see the results of the DEM's landslide victory over McKennedy and the Huckster ( V.P. ).

I WILL NEVER vote for McAmnesty/Hucksterby and I pray that no other TRUE Republican Conservative will either. When the Country goes down the drain because of Liberalism's effects ( which it will if the Dems OR McFeingold/Huckster win ) then the blame has to be laid at the Dems door and not the Republican Party.

If McGang-of-14 should win the Republican nomination then the Conservative base MUST make certain that he suffers a humiliating loss in November in order to send a message to Republican Party Leaders that they WILL adhere to Conservative Values or they will never win another election OR re-election.

Ann Coulter has the exact right approach and attitude the Conservative base HAS to have and take in order to regain control of the Republican Party. Thank God for Ann!!

Mitt Romney is who can bring TRUE Conservative values to the table in November NOT John McPride. Hey RINOs, there is still time to vote for a potetial WINNER in November and not a SURE LOSER!!

Vote for Mitt Romney or WASTE your vote!!

The only people who know for sure what happened to John McCain in 5 1/2 years in enemy hands - which forms the likely nominees priciple bona fides for being President - are John McCain, the KGB and Chinese intelligence via full files given them by Vietnamese interrogators on all captured US pilots questioning sessions, and the Vietnamese government.

We have McCains "straight talk" that he was a hero in that time. The Chinese, Putin's KGB, and Vietnamese have not commented.

It is their secret.

But it is roughly how the movie "The Machurian Candidate", starts.

Alvin: "I was at a gathering of six close friends tonight, all of whom have voted Rebublican each presidential election since the 80's. All had decided independently that they absolutely would not vote for McCain if he is the nominee."

They're voting Obama or Hillary this year?

A vote for Mike Huckabee is a vote for Mike Huckabee!! I am so tired of the rhetoric. Is this the only way Romney can get elected is by negative campaigning? If Romney is so great than he can get elected on his own. Why does he have to marginalize another candidate! Maybe he should run a positive campaign and get people to vote FOR HIM instead of trying to get people to vote against McCain and trying to threaten voters. Voting for Mike Huckabee is voting for a man who is not trashing his opponents. Huckabee talks about what he can bring to the White House and what he stands for. Why don;t Romney and McCain do that? Maybe because if they tell people what they really stand for they won't get elected. So stop running scared Romney and run on your own merits. I don't want a President who bickers with other people or who swears at fellow senators. I want a candidate who knows the troubles we face but talks positively about the changes he wants to make to improve this country. I think the campaign Romney is running is despicable and shameful! Huckabee is in the race to the end, with or without money so you people better just get used to it. Why don't you take issue with policies rather than calling other candidates names and calling their supporters names. I want a candidate who is positive and uplifting not rolling around in the mud.

I am sorry to tell Huckabee supporters this, but MH has worn his religion on his sleeve while running for president. Because of this, there is no way that he will be able to win the nomination, let alone the general election. This is why he needs to drop out so conservatism can win. Go Romney!

And by the way, Romney does not actually have the delegates from Nevada or Maine as those states are not bound. The wins from both states are just a straw poll which means nothing.

The greatest threat originally proposed by Osama Bin Laden was not related to the military – it is economic.

Osama wants to drain the US of its economic power by engaging us in a protracted war where we will use billions of dollars and end up leaving much like Russia in Afghanistan. The Institute for the Analysis of Global Security wrote a strong piece on this subject called Energy Security.

Osama Bin Ladin boasted in 2004, We "bled Russia for ten years until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat". His current strategy is the same. I propose a military man is not our best choice in this protracted conflict. We need an economic man.

With Bush in the White House, our generals have done a superb job fighting – Petraeus and the other generals have great ideas (not arm chair politicians like McCain who claim Petraeus’ ideas are his own). McCain has been in the Senate for 24 years – he is not a solution but part of the problem. McCain sitting on all those defense committees did not keep us safe! He was advising them when all of the junk occurred, he missed it just like everybody else. He will do just as much for America continuing as the arm chair warrior he has always been.

The future of warfare is not in McCain’s experience. We are talking technology and that requires a strong economy. We need unmanned planes, smart bombs, strategic missiles, robotic arms and satellites. The next generation of warfare is Asymmetric – McCain has no experience in it.

Mitt Romney understands economic incentives – both domestic and foreign. Whether it is aiding our allies, or hindering our enemies, economics is the key to the future. Economists estimates 80% of jobs in 20 years haven’t even been thought of yet. Mitt Romney knows how to incentivize research and development in new technologies. Only Mitt Romney has the experience to position America globally to take advantage of those opportunities.

It’s time to Rally to Romney for a truly strong America. A strong economy allows us to build the strong military – thus defending us both financially and militarily.

Amy said "Voting for Mike Huckabee is voting for a man who is not trashing his opponents."

Huckabee is trashing his opponents - I guess you didn't catch this one. Huckabee accused Sean Hannity of being bought by Romney. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Of course, then he used his slick political humor to say, "But I'm not sure".

Huckabee is a pure politician, just like slick McCain.

re 'fleeting thoughts': You are absolutely dead on re the importance of our economy's health to the safety of this country! While we all salute McCain's military service, we need the most talented person now to make our economy strong.
Mitt Romney is that man.

Also, for Huckabee supporters: He's charming and humorous as well as being a smooth and witty speaker. I can understand his appeal. However, if you believe in the conservative issues, a vote for Huck will really be a vote for McCaine or Hillary/Obama. Mitt Romney is the only viable candidate promoting the conservative agenda. For all the ideals we hold dear, we, conservatives, need to put our differences aside and support Mitt Romney before it's too late!

Romney is not a conservative. Conservatives don't buy into mandating healthcare.

I love how Romney's new desperate catchphrase is "Washington is broken" yet his idol, to whom he insisted Mike Huckabee ought to apologize, is George W. Bush. If there's anything broken about Washington, or if there's any one man who's done more to break it, it is Bush. Romney knows this, but he realized late in the game that his only hope of winning the nomination was to pose as the "outsider" who would storm into DC and shake things up... kind of like what Bush was supposed to do, what with all that "compassionate conservatism" just oozing out of his life's story.

The irony is, if Romney had had any integrity or confidence, he would've simply ran as Mitt Romney instead of running as Christian Mitt and "Double GITMO!" Mitt and then Outsider Mitt. He never knew what he really stood for, so he simply blew with the wind and pandered and maintained his candidacy by paying for it out of his own pockets.

Yeah, he's a real winner.

I love how the Romney fans spend half their time bashing McCain and half their time bashing Huckabee, and then wonder why the other candidates' supporters aren't flocking to the Romney banner. The latest push to get all the Huckabee voters to abandon their guy is doomed to fail. Do you think the Christian Conservatives haven't noticed that the folks telling them their guy is "unacceptable" haven't noticed that the "acceptable" candidate is a Mormon?

This is Romneys last hurrah. ... if John McCain wants to knock Mitt out he just has to remind people that while he was being tortured and imprisoned in Nam, Mitt was dodging the draft in France. Who do you want in the White house ?

I have yet to hear from anyone from Mass. tell me
what's the current FINE/Penalty for failure to
espouse SOME sort of "Insurance" program.

Can any champions for Mitt, perhaps Staples employees, clue me in here?

Romney is not a conservative. Conservatives don't buy into mandating healthcare.

Actually, conservatives can well do without conservatives stating dogmas as truth that other conservatives don't buy.

All too often, we conservatives have, just like Liberals, individuals who assert any fellow believer must pass throgh a series of litmus tests that turns the narrow part of the public who actully swallow all the dogmatic crap into cartoons the rest of the public rejects. Yes, you can be liberal without hating hard punishment of criminals, or believe that affirmative action is wrong. Yes you can be conservative without loving Jesus, believing in a 6,000 year old Earth, thinking that military or other uniformed government employees are superior human beings and automatically right over those "who don't SERVE!!"

Many conservatives, seeing numbers appproaching 1/3rd of our population medically now covered only by the taxpayer, employers cutting back or ending health insurance because they can't compete globally if we are the only nation that adds health care to product costs - know this cannot continue. They strongly favor a private enterprise insurance approach.

One that allows for innovation and choice like no state-run single payer system can. But which mandates no "free riders" - people who calculate they are at low risk or "just too poor" they desrver to be free to spend that money elsewhere - fre riders who then stick the rest of us with their bills, when they show up, or their kids show up, at hospitals.

Thirty years ago, it was common for kids and dogs and friends to ride in the open in the back of pickup trucks. Go to other countries, and you see the same today of the same live cargo riding on top of buses, trains. Pet & livestock carriers were marketed 30 years ago as safe and able to be attached to the top of cars. It's not animal abuse and many "oldsters" say the highlight of their dog's family vacation was being on the road in one of those "pet igloos" or the back of a pickup truck. Things change. We have more wealth now, especially the Romneys! - so packing a large family into 1 station wagon has given way to a family of 7 riding in two bigger SUVs and plenty of space in the passenger compartment.

But we still haul bigger animals in animal U-hauls. And no animal-lover bitches....maybe a few urban unmarried cat-ladies...but no one who understands what it takes to move horses, sheep, flocks of geese.

Usually it is Lefties that lord the purported "HE SERVED!!!!" superiority of some Vet like Kerry or McCain over the rest of the populace. Who think it is politically acceptable to push the liberal fascist line that cops, firefighters, and troops are to be worshipped as agents of the government who "keep us safe" over any mere citizens claim to equality and having an equal voice and equal right to run for office.

Of course Lefties like Davide will sing a different tune and shift to a whole new set of talking points when McCain runs against the Woman who "ducked serving" in Vietnam or the guy who could have served in Reagan's military, even fought alongside me in the Gulf War, instead of
being a community activist advocating for just one race in one community and getting more taxpayer spoils to them. Then McCain will become the "warmonger", Hillary and Obama will be said to have done laudable, essential things like Romney but things outside the professional military caste McCain willingly joined.

To answer your question...
It's $250 dollars this year, and $1000 next year, for those who can afford it.
It's the ONLY universal health care plan that I've heard that's made any sense to me. Force people to pay for health insurance, just like we force people to pay for car insurance. It's better than making people like myself pay for our own health insurance as well as taxes to cover the health insurance and emergency room fees of people less motivated to take care of themselves and their families. I and many other responsible people have gone out of our way to find jobs that may not "fulfill our dreams" but at least take care of us and our families. I work for a telemarketing firm and anyone who says they can't get insurance... we're ALWAYS hiring. You're covered day 1, all pre-existing conditions are taken care of, nobody is denied and all you have to do is work... imagine that. Time to grow a pair and take care of your own family. It shouldn't be an option, especially if you have children.
Mitt's the man for the job.

In this Presidential Campaign, so far, DOCTOR RON PAUL

Has raised more money in one day than in the HISTORY OF ELECTIONS.
(the people support him!!!)

He has the endorsement of Barry Goldwater Jr. (Talk about a Conservative)

He has the endorsement of “Roe” of Roe vs Wade. (Pro Life)

His analysis of the Economy is supported by “Mad Money man Kramer”.

He wins ALL the Republican Debate (On line polls) (Young people support him 100%)

He took 2nd Place in Nevada and Louisiana. (Where is the media?)

He is a true “statesman” and has a solid Congressional voting record that proves it.
(No flip flopping on issues) 20 years worth!!!

A true Conservative that does not vote for higher taxes.

Thousands attend his rallies.

Despite the Media Blackout – he is still gaining support. The American people want our Congressional Leaders to FOLLOW THE CONSITUTION.

No war without a “Declaration”. (IAW U.S. Consitution)

All of these ARE WORTHY of reporting. But what to the American citizens get

John “Juan” McCain
Mitt, “which way today” Romney
Huckabee (Duh, which way did they go)

The media gives “free” air time to these corporate elite puppets. They follow them around on their campaign stops and “air” their speeches. But where is RON PAUL?

Despite all this – The Revolution continues.

RON PAUL – ALL THE WAY!!

Maine Rocks!! Intelligent voters want an intelligent candidate to serve as our next President. That intelligent candidate is Mitt Romney!!

Romney's credentials are stellar, they are real and they are extensive. Everyone with the IQ above a banana knows you cannot achieve what he has in life by faking it.

My family has been fighting and dying for our freedom since the Revolution, nobody owes it to anyone to allow them to force us into obeisance and silence for their own selfish and egotistical interests, not even John McCain. That is not freedom, that is oppression and unAmerican.

GO MITT!!
