"There are 700 people in our organization. We can’t be sure that it didn’t come from us. It is not the intent of the campaign to release this picture to tarnish Senator Obama in any way, but if someone in the campaign thinks the Obama camp gets treated differently by the media, well, they’re right."

So, in other words, they did it. Note also the strange parsing of the sentence referring to intent. That seems to me to undercut the earlier quasi-denial (i.e., "We did it, but our intent wasn't to tarnish Obama -- we just wanted to underline the difference in media treatment.") Also, this sounds shockingly defensive and petty to me -- is this an official campaign release, or a quote from a source? I suspect the former, but it's a little hard to tell from the context, and it would certainly be more in character with the latter.
They are disgusting. Anyone who supports them at this point must be mindless zombies.
Darn right Obama gets treated differently by the media. He or his campaign (don't remember which) said it best: if Obama had lost 11 straight contest by double-digit margins, would anyone in the media still give him the respect of being a credible candidate? Of course not. My God, what a repulsive campaign. Hillary has developed as much animosity in me toward her as I have for any Republican. That is saying something.
This is the - we deny it, but agree with it denial? Nice try. They are hoping that by agreeing with it, people will stop trying to find out who sent it. Why don't they just ask Drudge who sent it if they REALLY don't know. But then we'd learn who authorized it. Must be someone pretty high up.
Another outstanding display of managerial competence by Hillary Clinton.
The second Clinton statement seems both disingenuous and arrogant: it expressly says they don't know if someone with their campaign sent it out. But they expressly claim to know the intent of that unknown person should it turn out they are affiliated with the campaign. I do strongly agree with the first sentence in the first statement they issued: ENOUGH.
This must mean the Clintons haven't turned up any 3-decade-old drug-use photos. Golly, how disappointing.
Contrast this with the way the Obama camp has handled this type of situation in the past and you tell me who is ready to lead on day one...
Honestly, tell me this statement doesn't reek of "We may never find out who leaked the Plame story... it's just too difficult to know who did what in our vast organization!"
"We can't be sure it didn't come from us." So why not ask Drudge for a copy of the original email? Why not say something like: "We have determined that a specific staffer sent this email. This staffer has been fired. We regret the distraction. Let's move on." Can they not even attempt to take responsibility?
Dear Maggie: Get. A. Grip.
You know: How is it the media's fault that Clinton has lost 11 straight and has to make Ohio and Texas her last stand? The media has reported on both of them and she's been the presumptive front-runner into Iowa: she had the money, the time to build and organization, and the same facts on the ground that Obama did. She just got out-worked in one sense, and didn't have a plan B. She's a great pol who is up against and equally gifted pol and the only difference is his organization built for the long haul and hers didn't. How is that the media's fault? I find the Tina Fey line of arugment wrong and fairly demeaning of Obama supporters, which given HRC's insult 40 states strategy, should come as no surprise to me.
Relish the last days of the House of Clinton; god willing, by the eve of March 4, we shall be released. No sympathy due: Bill and Hillary can return to his profitable "foundation work", including extolling the human rights record of Pres. Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, who "has been accused of overseeing one of the most nepotistic, ruthless and corrupt regimes in central Asia" no mean feat, that. Of course, Bill's advocacy on behalf of this thug has absolutely nothing to do with the $31 MILLION, his foundation took in from Mr Giustra, newly a very good Friend Of Bill (and Hillary, natch), and recipient of massive Kazakh uranium mining contracts. Any chance that Kazakh cash is funding HRC's pathetic campaign? Perhaps the tax returns could shed some light on that? To think it could be only 8 days before they are put out of their (and our) misery.
IS THIS the kind of GOVERNMENT she'd run? God help America!
Don Imus makes an off the cuff racial remark that roundly condemned and rightly so. HRCs campaign did something far worse. They are ‘consciously’ trying to denigrate a man based stereotypes. Even if Hillary herself didn’t authorize the smear campaign, she certainly hasn’t condemned, repudiated, or apologized for it. The NYT goes after Republicans for the hypocrisy of advocating a moral life and then not living up to the standards they set. Let’s see if they go after Democrats for advocating racial and religious tolerance but then using race and religion as a means to denigrate an opponent.
sounds to me like they know who did it, but they wont say who. that person should take responsibility, and be fired
Curious explanation. Why don't they just get their IT manager to search their email servers by the date, subject, to and from fields. They'd have an answer in a few minutes.
I don't see why Obama supporters have to be so bitter just because their candidate hasn't had the greatest of days since the debate. Frankly, it's all been well deserved to deal with it. Hillary tore a strip off Obama for the mailers because they were distortions and they don't mesh along with the high ideals he claims to have. Tina Fey's endorsement skip was funny and true, and SNL's media analysis was largely accurate. Hillary mocked Obama's 'celestial' rhetoric yesterday because it's absurd and that's what one does when confronted with absurdity. You make light of it. This photo of Barack in this traditional Somali dress is, as far as anyone knows, a real photo. It's not as if Hillary has never been photographed in ceremonial outfits. If Obama is embarassed about it it's his own issue, his campaign doesn't need to get hysterical about it. And, finally, Hillary pointed out Obama's inconsistent and uncertain views on foreign policy by making some fair observations based on what Obama has actually said. It's all fair game.
I enjoy snacking on men's bollocks at each and every chance I get. Mmmmmm...bollocks.
Yes Tim K, of course. And when Bob Kerrey went off for 5 minutes talking about how "he didn't mind that Obama's middle name was Hussein, and that he'd been taught in a madrassa, and was of Muslim heritage," no those were all just innocent remarks. Golly gee, no buttons to be pressed, no neurons to fire and wire together, no associations to be made. All this of course right around the time when Clinton Iowa staffers were sending out Emails of Obama as a Muslim terrorist. Same thing with Bill Sheehan and Mark Penn's remarks about how Obama might be mistaken for a drug dealer. Same thing with Obama dressed in Somali garb, attired respectfully for a meeting with Kenyan hosts in a region with a high Somali population. Oh golly gee, no messages being sent with such images, none at all. Tim, if you actually believe that, either you're a jerk who thinks the rest of are idiots, or you truly are so naive that you need a brain transplant. You just go on sniffing that glue, maybe it'll make you a bit smarter.
I think I speak for majority of folks when I say "We're so tired of Clintons Negative Campaign". I mean she talks about change and how she's the best person for it, but all I see is the same old , political "mudslinging" , from her and her Campaign. She doesn't get it , America regardless of experiance, there plan , or whatever...wants a new type of leader All together. The old way doesn't work, because nothing gets done, In the mean time People are overworked, and broke. We need someone genuine, not someone in bed with special interest groups. I mean I'm the first person that will say it's time for a women president, but not Hillary... Go Obama'
Unscrupulous. Does this remind anyone else of George W Bush vs. John McCain in the 2000 Republican Primary? Good night, Hillary.
I wish that Hillary would stop pointing out what Obama can or can't do and spend a little time stating what she will do. She spends more time obsessing that trying to convince me not to vote for Barack.
Oh, what incompetence! And, what irresponsibility! Not to mention the campaign's possible divisive intent... If there's anyone who's so Bush like, it's certainly Sen. Clinton. It appears that she'd go down in history as a real sour loser.
Hillary has spent a great deal of time talking about in detail what she intends to do when elected. Barack and Michell Obama are nothing but arrogant pretenders and you fools are falling for it hook line and sinker. This country is in real trouble, and things will only get worse with an inexperienced and indecisive Obama as President.
