The RNC's New Way To Bracket Barack Obama

01 Feb 2008 02:02 pm

Here's the headline on a Minnesota Republican Party press release:

"#1 LIBERAL SENATOR VISITS MINNESOTA TOMORROW"

The full release, after the jump.,

#1 LIBERAL SENATOR VISITS MINNESOTA TOMORROW

St. Paul- Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today issued the following statement regarding Barack Obama’s visit to Minnesota.

“In spite of all the feel good rhetoric, Barack Obama fundamentally lacks the experience, leadership and accomplishments necessary to be commander in chief. Given his extreme partisanship, status as the candidate of MoveOn.org and his position as the nation’s most liberal senator, Minnesotans won’t be fooled by Obama.”

Even reading that press release, I am overwhelmed by how irrelevant the RNC are this election.

Obama? Liberal? No way!

Urgh.
Shame on the National Journal. Hope they lose any credibility now.

He'll use the Reagan contrast. I really reject these silly labels anyway.

"extreme partisanship"

????????

I hope National Journal is happy now. Even Time (that liberal bastion) smacked the rankings down as ridiculous.

Liberal is a synonym for free. It's no surprise that the RNC hates freedom.

Scary.. We actually know where he stands unlike Our Lady of Perpetual Triangulation... Go Obama....

"Liberal is a synonym for free."

The problem is that within American politics, "Liberals" want more government control and "Traditional American Conservatives" (aka Classical Liberals) stand for less government control--therefore freedom.

The RNC "hates" freedom in that it is becoming more "liberal", like the DNC.

Here's the comeback: "Barack Obama has no plans to stop in the men's room at the airport."

RNC is scared because Obama's civility draws republicans

NJ has been doing these rankings for 10 years. Not like it's shocking or anything. Obama ranked 10th last year, if I recall.

I'd say going from #10 to #1 in a single year is pretty shocking, actually. Just like how John Kerry suddenly became the "most liberal senator" back in 2003. Funny how that works out.

Of course, it's already been established that the study's a fake, so the point is moot. It'd still be nice to hear a response from Obama on this, though.

DaveWoo beat me to it, but I too remembered this line from the last election.

Moving on..

Its much better than this kind of headline:

**************************************************

A war-monger, liberal and old senator from Arizona is the republican nominee.

**************************************************

Somehow I don't think the RNC attempt to label him will do much.
After seeing the ugly onslaught by the Clintons in trying to marginalizing him or trying to make him out to be a closet republican, calling him a liberal won't do more than cause a good laugh.
And after seeing how the Senator handles this sort of things, he'd probably give a very good witty line about it and it, like others, will fade.

The people who think Obama *isn't* liberal probably don't even know what his policy agenda is -- and they probably don't care. They support Obama not because of his policies but because they obtain some odd sense of good feelings by supporting him.

YES!!! It's FINALLY COMING OUT!!! This is the man who is running for President...one who has let his STATE DOWN AS SENATOR CONSTANTLY!!!

This is the "change" we want in office? If you can't do the job you were HIRED TO DO!!! Than you darn sure shouldn't get the chance for a friggin' promotion!!!

As a Black woman, I have been following Obama, closely from day one of his tenure as Senator in my state...hoping against hope (because I knew what the game plan was when I saw that he's part of the "Democratic machine"...but I thought...maybe, just maybe he'll be different...

Sadly...he is not...

Since becoming Senator of Illinois....this is what he has done...

Promote his personal agenda...use his office to ensure that his own personal financial coffers swell...use his office as a promotional tool for his book...use his office as a marketing tool for his lack of definitive persona...use his office for whatever he wants...

And what he wants is to not do ANYTHING to make sure that the State of Illinois is successful...

It saddens me that all somebody has to do in America is say a few pretty words, and have mega celebrities endorse them and that's it...and someone who has worked their tookas off for years, to ensure that their constiutents get a fair handshake is demoralized...

And when you talk about a public servant's "character"...look at his voting record...look at the bills he has sponsored....look at the state of affairs concerning the region he's from...

And then you will be able to really judge the public servant's character and gauge whether or not they will be a 'good president"...

Obama needs to be President alright...

Of a high price, top ranking University....

That's IT!!!

So what you're saying is, as a black woman, you would prefer that one of the following people becomes President in November: (1) a man who amassed a $350 million fortune by cutting other people's jobs; (2) a 72-year-old white republican who was and is determined to send lower-middle-class kids to die trying to police a civil war that his party willingly manufactured; or (3) a white woman who has spent her entire life telling people what opinion polls told her they want to hear so she could have power. So you're telling us that one of these people is preferable to a charismatic and smart mixed-race guy who sees through the others' bullshit. That makes no sense.

That is only because the Republican's number one liberal Senator John "F'ing" McCain has yet to visit. He is busy pandering to the right with some Reagan mush.

All the men I've come across who support Hillary are the type of spineless jellyfish with no balls that you see in the mall taking orders from their fat, overbearing wives.

Why do Obama supporters insist on trashing the National Journal for its ranking of Senator Obama? It does the ranking every year and its method is transparent. Obama has an extremely liberal record--he supports decriminalization of marijuana, has a far left position on issues like gun control and abortion. He supports drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, etc. Whether you agree with him or not, it is important to have the record out now. Why wait until the general election and have it be a surprise?

Whether you agree with him or not, it is important to have the record out now. Why wait until the general election and have it be a surprise?

Because Obama supporters don't care who wins the general election if Obama's not the nominee. They've made this quite clear.

"Liberal" is the new code word for old Washington to say, very smart which Obama is. I'm a white female who has never seen white men so threatened. Get over it. This is 2008 anyone should win. You have been in control for centuries and have had unnecessary wars forever. I just hope the white half of Obama doesn't let him follow the rest of the disgusting, hateful, white men. Give youth a chance. Do we really need Clinton? Bill Clinton will still sleep with everyone but Lassie. And we will be put through the same drama. Mccain is too damn old. Yes he is a war hero and he is also mean, bitter, and divisive. Romney is a morman they just found out black people are human. You can change laws, but you can't change mindsets. Let this young, brilliant, man, Obama bring us into the new millenium. The RNC is the old 1950's America. Racist, rude, sexist, homophobic, even though many of them are closet gays.
