Where DeLauro Goes, So Goes Dodd?

01 Feb 2008 01:08 pm

News that Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) has decided to endorse Barack Obama paves the way for the state's senior senator, Chris Dodd, to make his presidential preference known.

Dodd advisers assume, but do not know, that Sen. Obama will get the honors.

A Dodd endorsement could swing Connecticut Obama's way. He's already received the endorsement of the two other Democratic members of the House.

Considering her husband is Stanley Greenberg, Clinton's former pollster, that is very interesting news indeed.

A couple of other takeaways from this...

1) Dodd and Kennedy are close friends, and although it's already been said, I don't think we should overlook how much endorsement cover was given to Senators just like Dodd (and Biden) by Teddy's "ready to lead on day one" remark.

2) Dodd talked about electability pretty candidly in one of the debates and on the stump in Iowa.

3) Don't underestimate the power of Obama's very real momentum. Superdelegates (particularly those with Cabinet potential) will want to be part of Team Obama before looking too inconsequential or looking like followers who just jumped on the bandwagon when it was safe.

Not to mention Ned Lamont, who is very popular with Connecticut Democrats...

There are three others, no?
