An Update From Michigan

14 Mar 2008 02:52 pm

Just in: A statement [from] Senator Carl Levin (D-MI); Representative Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-13th District); President Ron Gettelfinger, UAW; and DNC Member Debbie Dingell

We have been working to resolve the question of seating Michigan’s delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

We agree that the Michigan delegation should be seated at the Convention, and without a fight before the Credentials Committee or on the floor of the Convention.

At this time we are focusing on the possibility of a state-run primary in early June, which would not use any state funding. This option would require the passage of legislation by the State Legislature, and we look forward to working with the members of the Legislature in the coming days to see if this option can be made a reality.

Brilliant for Hillary, if this comes to pass. Particularly if it happens in close conjunction to a similar situation in Florida. Logic tells you that the two states are ultimately going to follow more or less the same path out of this morass. Likely at more or less the same point in the primary process.

As I mentioned earlier, the entire Primary process effectively becomes a "do over" at that point. Assuming Hillary closes the gap in Penn., the candidates enter the "Clubhouse Turn" essentially "neck on neck". I like the chances of the "old grey mare" in that scenario.

Actually, probably better for Obama. After all, in the first primary fiasco, she got half of Michigan's delegates, and he got none. This time, he would have a good chance to get at least half. And, on his track record, probably more.

What Clinton desperately needs is to get the Michigan delegation that resulted from the earlier primary accepted. That would be the one where hers was the only name not taken off the ballot. Which says something about her committment to playing by the rules -- even ones that she already agreed to.

robert ethan/geraldine ferraro, why do you still post here? Go to Hillaryis44 or MyDD?

Obama will win Michigan.

No state funding, eh? For a state-run primary? How do they plan on accomplishing that? Does the Michigan Democratic Party have $10 million just lying around?
