Some would say the "reparations" are Social Welfare, Theft Insurance, and the Penal System.

What a joke Crist is; this is so obvious a pander. And Crist's precondition for reparations is a joke: obviously he knows that it is difficult and time consuming and costly to determine descendency.
If you are for reparations, then you should just be for it. I wonder what other preconditions Crist would attach to it? Some sort of economic proof of disadvantage?
Crist knows this idea of his would never work, and it is an insult to the entire African American community. It reminds me of when whites would force blacks to pass a poll test in order to be able to vote, or any of the other barriers whites erected to make it only seem as if they were being fair to blacks.
Why are you guys assuming that everyone who would get reparations would be black? Don't you guys know that there are plenty of "white" Americans w/ancestors that where African Slaves?
There are also some AA's who ancestors weren't slaves (like my own).

This is virtually impossible to do, I'd imagine. Did slave owners keep titles to their slaves? Pfft.
Well, to be accurate, everyone's ancestors "came from Africa". At least if you accept the prevailing Cradle of Civilization Theory. Probably most of them were slaves at one point or other over the milleniums.
Curiously, Africa is the one spot where slavery still thrives. You could make a pretty good case that about 90% OF SLAVEHOLDERS IN EXISTENCE TODAY ARE AFRICAN.
Obama's maternal ancestors, the Dunham's are an old American family that traces it's roots almost back to the Mayflower, I believe. That means there was a decent chance that some of his American ancestors were Slaveholders.
His African ancestors were almost certainly Slaveholders, since the practice is still prevelant on that continent, and was thriving up until fairly recently. His family were well to do by Kenyan standards, and his cousins, the Odingas, were local chieftans.
Wouldn't it be a kick if Crack had to pay reparations? He'd have to spring the Syrian, Rezko, from minimum security to raise funds to pay the reparations. Or maybe he would go directly to the Big Man, Auchi, the Iraqi fugitive from the French courts. After all it was Auchi who gave the money to Rezko to hand off to Obama. Antoin was just a middle level Chicago bagman for the Arab American Political Cell that holds power on the South Side.

Not to mention 1/4 of black children have no idea even who own their father was, and the mommas are no help if they can only narrow it down to 6-8 guys..Lots of luck determining ancestry with 6-8 generations gone since slavery ended.
Or attempting to claim collective guilt of other races, or excusing black slaveholders, or answering that any damage whites did to blacks still delivered blacks to a higher standard of living than anywhere blacks had to suceed on their own merits without latching on to the hard work, intelligence, and success of other people. Or explaining why the tremendous damage blacks have done to once-prosperous cities and the tax drain black low educational achievement, crime, and welfare parasitism has caused America should not be subtracted.
Reparations are a nice divisive, preposterous subject that allows other Americans to laugh at militant blacks - namely outside areas where PC is enforced by liberal Democrat control. And fun to watch the IRS come into lives of the especially dumber black militants who were told they don't have to pay income taxes because reparations cancel taxes out.
Yes. Over 360 years ago my ancestor was taken from his family and shipped to New England as slave. He was from Ireland.

Does this stuff actually get him votes? I doubt that he got a lot of the black vote in Florida. Does he think that this will make him McCain's VP nominee? Does he really want to get into a discussion of reparations? Obama would probably come out against it if Crist brought it up as a political hedge, so what is the point of this whole charade?
Let's do reparations!
There is only one catch: claimants have to file the claim with the original slave catcher and transporter (who bears most of the burden) and the original slave holder (who did provide for the slaves something, like food, water, shelter) and the claim has to be filed in person by the former slave.
They can put whatever they want in the claim!
For anyone who can prove that he/she was a slave prior to 1865, please step forward and collect your reparations. Everyone else, piss off.
Obama seems to be re-opening the Civil War again and that seems to be catching on with dimwits like our Governor. Crist wants to be VP so badly that he's selling reparations to get the black vote. Too bad he's living in 2008 and not 1958.
Obama wants a conversation about his mixed racial heritage , black father, white mother, white grandparents, etc. I really don't want to get into that mix or hear about his ability to play both race cards. He's white when he wants to be and black when convenient. That way he's always half right on the race issues that he is reopening. Michelle can now be proud.
The pot smoking, guilt ridden legislature will follow him and share cool aid on the way.

Some blacks say that whites should pay for the actions of their dead relations.
Does that mean that if you commit murder, get 100 year sentence but only live 50 years your son or daughter should serve the rest of it.
I am jewish. There are claims that the egyptians were black. You know passover celebrates the freedom of the jews from the egyptians.

Or, there are sooo few pure blacks in the united states. Obama for one is at least 50% white-WOULD THAT BE A WASH WITH HIS WHITE HALF PAYING TO HIS BLACK HALF?
