Obama Slams Clinton Veep Illogic

10 Mar 2008 01:21 pm

Sen. Barack Obama, just now, in Columbus, MS, on the vice presidential talk coming from the Clintons:

"I don't understand. If I'm not ready, how is it do you think I would be such a great vice president? Do you understand that?"

Obama suggested that the Clintons are trying to "bamboozle" and "hoodwink" the voters.

"You can't say that he's not ready on day one unless he's willing to be your vice president," Obama said.

Obama could easily beef up his foreign policy credentials by taking a trip with me to Kosovo. It was there, in 1996, with Hillary Clinton, that I myself passed the Commander-in-Chief threshold!

BOOM. His rapid response effort has been on target FROM DAY ONE.

Good one. I've been wondering Obama would respond to this clever bit of one-upmanship from Team Hillary. Would like to have heard a quicker response, but better a strong answer than a dumb one.

I have been ably informed by a fellow commenter on this very blog that the Clinton campaign's statements are merely an unavoidable byproduct of political expediency, and that therefore we should disregard the illogic of an such statements emanating from that camp.

In other words, IOKIYHRC.

As VP, Obama will be used to fetch water, empty the chamber pots, and generally keep the White house clean and tidy.

In the mean time, Chelsea will take over the NY Senate seat, and be ready to run as VP in the next election, and then President the following one.

i'm glad he finally said this so explicitly, but i'm also glad HOW he he did it--hand in pocket, with a mocking tone. he's making fun of her, and bill.

he's a cucumber, as in Cool As A.

D, I would laugh at your comment except that I'm very afraid it's true. Why else give Chelsea such a high profile in this campaign? And heck, if Hillary gained valuable "experience" through osmosis when Bill was governor and prez, just imagine how much "experience" Chelsea has with the addition of Hillary's years (albeit not many) in the Senate!

It's sad that discussing cute one-liners is the best that the MSM - and Atlantic's "Voices" - can offer.

Marc Ambinder: there are huge, glaring gaps in all the candidates' policy proposals. How about trying to cover some of them? Since you aren't an expert in much of anything that I can see, send emails to experts from across the spectrum asking for a list of those gaps and some questions to ask. Then, ask someone in the campaign to respond.

Even more hysterical is Wolfson's statement (from The Page):

“We do not believe that Senator Obama has passed the commander in chief test. But there is a long way between now and Denver.”

Has Chelsea been thoroughly vetted?

oops - I did not see that Marc posted the Wolfson quote below.

But this gives me the opportunity to say that the Clintons have given Obama -- and the late night comics -- an awful lot of material to mock.

HRC, as first lady in white house adds all the years as experience(most of the white house employees are exposed with the talk in white house),was she co-president of USA along with BILL CLINTON. So many white house employees can become Presidents if experience in white house is the main criteria for electing president of USA.

let them go ahead and pimp Chelsea and make her the vice president. Obama is not interested. We the ordinary people in America funded his campaign and we are asking him not to take that position. He will be just the bus-boy in the white house

Obama to Hill: I drink your milkshake.

Ah, the Clinton arguments:

Hillary, 35 years of experience

Chelsea, 35 years of existence

Billary Clinton III Junior, 35 years of expectation

I shudder to imagine the ultimate slogan:

A Clinton for the 35th century!

You know it's over when Marc and Ben are both posting things which can't do anything but show the Clinton campaign for what it is.

I think it's fair to say these reptiles like Wolfson and the villainous Harold Ickes are bat-shit crazy. Monster Inc resembles more and more the kind of whacked-out crews that surround myriad candidates on the far-right. These people are real scum.

I'm no longer convinced that Hillary Clinton is even very smart. The moves are too desperate, and chuckleheaded. She looks more an more like a person with a mild personality disorder.

The video interview just late last Fall with Couric was telling. She is sitting there telling Couric that "she never considered that anyone could be the Nominee' (other than her)...but what's rich about the moment is this: she actually thinks this is a good position to take--she thinks this makes her look good.

That is hilarious.

Hillary Clinton is mentally stuck at the teenage level. There's some arrested development here.

Hey, I understand the Clinton logic for making Obama a VP!

It is real simple. First, Obama is 1/2 black, so he is only worth 3/4 of a white person....

Yes, he won the popular vote and more states, but the black votes and black states only count for 1/2, so that means by Clinton math, he doesn't have enough delegates, votes, etc. for President!

No way they are going to allow one black = one vote!

It is so simple to understand the Clintons, you just got to adjust your mind to thinking deep south where he is from, and everything makes sense.

The Obama campaign is all in a tither over what would be the MOST OBVIOUS TICKET FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY because polls show that in a JOINT TICKET, Hillary gets OVERWHELMING SUPPORT TO BE AT THE TOP OF THE TICKET. 48% to 36% in the latest Survey USA poll. If those numbers were reversed, I don't think the "ALL INCLUSIVE" campaign would be protesting quite so loudly.

His "logic" isn't. Obviously the up and coming candidate to HEAD THE COMPANY would be expected to TRAIN AND LEARN under the more experienced and qualified CEO in any business model.

That is what Big Ears would be doing. On the job training to fill the shoes of the incumbent until such time as SHE was unable or unwilling to continue to lead.

Makes perfect sense to me, and I think that Obama looks VERY VICE PRESIDENTIAL at the moment. Don't you?

Doesn't Hillary Clinton realize that people have to like you to elect you to be president? Every day she or her campaign give me another reason to revile her. I wish the super delegates would do their damn jobs and get her the heck out of this race.

LOL, Deb. You're obviously a supporter of Vice Presidential Candidate Barack Obama.

Looking at the vote totals, apparently a significant percentage of the population DOES FIND HILLARY CLINTON LIKABLE.

Matter of fact in a recent poll conducted by a national magazine, HILLARY CLINTON WAS VOTED THE MOST POPULAR WOMAN IN AMERICA.

IIRC, Vice Presidential Candidate Obama was well down the list among men. Behind, among others, Hillary's husband President Bill Clinton, the current President George Bush, and war hero Senator John McCain.

Mind you, after a couple terms as Vice President, Obama would have a considerably higher profile and would likely draw more of the nations vote in a popularity contest. Or "likability" contest if you prefer that term. He could end up being a respected figure like former Vice President Albert Gore II.

Don't give up hope.

Ummmm .... there's a problem, Robert Ethan (I've heard all about you on other blogs). When she runs against McCain she loses. This is because Hillary's negatives are huge (right around 50%).

Case in point, people in TX had printed signs made up that said only, "Beat Hillary." (Remember TX, where HRC had a "big win" in the primary of an astounding 3%?) If the Dems screw up and make her the nominee, you'll see those signs multiple coast-to-coast as we approach November.

Keep up with the VP nonsense, though. I love that even the people on CNN get a good laugh at the loser offering vp to the winner. It's just the type of humor people expect from the Clintons.

What I love is that, given a campaign that has clearly thought one step down the road for months, everyone assumes that Barack Obama is this hapless guy with nothing but hope and some donors.

"Rope-a-hope"...all the way to Denver.

(And isn't the dynamic now that one side HAS to go to Denver to win...while the other does not?)

Obama has been smearing Clinton too. Does that mean that he says whe would not make a good running mate? When asked that question, he said (with a bit of arrogant swagger) that she would be on anybody's short list. So, Clinton's logic is entirely consistent with Obama's logic when it comes to VP issues. Obamas is always expecting a double-standard. I wanted him to win originally, but now I find this guy just patently arrogant and obsessed with himself (though I certainly hope the democratic nominee, whoever he or she is, wins the general election). The country will love Obama - except for the poorest people, who will find that he is a panderer not a fighter. Oh well, there are no more fighters in the democratic party. Obama will be a Republocrat. This is the best thing that the right-wingers could have hoped for, given that a democrat was going to win this election anyways.

Obama supporters have really found a lot of pride in hating Clinton so much. I definitely don't want to be a part of this bandwaggon.

Obama will win, but it is sad to see how personality-driven American politics is. Really, most of the vitriol against Clinton has to do with things that have utterly nothing to do with her policies.

Her campaign is vigorous and it should be vigorous because she clearly believes in what she stands for. Obama has also been vigorous and he has also been sleazy. They are policians. Obama is not above this stuff; he is hurling grotestue "we"/"they" rhetoric that is deceptive and smarmy.

I think Obama is the least horrible of the remaining three contenders for the President, but I think all you Obama-lovers need to wake up, start being a little more respectful, and start being a little more aware of your own messiah's serious shortcomings.
