Obama's Closing Argument In Texas

Two minutes long, airing on many stations statewide.

Very nice. Positivity counts.

He didn't really say anything, but no surprise there.

However, one of the actual things he said is that he wants to make college affordable, something that conflicts with his support for letting illegal aliens take college slots and discounts from U.S. citizens.

Too bad there isn't someone around here who could ask him about things like that. You know, someone who's paid to be a reporter or something.

I like 2 minute ads. Plenty of time for a bathroom break while watching your favorite shows.

Not sure why this is being labeled a "Texas" ad. I live in Ohio and this has been on all afternoon and evening.

So now the question is whether a positive message beats the kitchen sink and gender whining.

Thank you, Suzie

I am an Obama supporter - but I don't find this ad persuasive. For 60+ seconds, he talks general themes. Then he spends 30 seconds talking about the past and very little talking about the future. This ad doesn't do very much to counter the "no experience, no substance" line hawked by the Clinton camp.

Obama wants to keep it positive. I hope the wisdom of his ways become obvious.

At first, I wanted to see him do an ad that compiles all the images of the raging shrill Hillary. But having 2 campaigns go negative against each other just turn off voters.

After 20 years of the Bush/Clinton reign and deadlocks in Congress where nothing is getting done, I really hope that our country can turn away from negativity and move to HOPE.

Hillary Clinton has managed to make HOPE a dirty little four letter word. Don't let her!

I'm a big Obama supporter but it appears that the campaign has gotten a little off track the past few days. This ad is, at best, average and not really new to anyone. I was expecting better. Also, I believe it was a major mistake to not make the February fundraising totals-which I hear are over $60 million-into a big release which would have been a news story that is very positive. Hillary got major news coverage by announcing $36 million for the month and the Obama only says that it raised much more. Why would the Obama people not use this very important news to their advantage prior to Tuesdays really important primaries? Can anyone possible explain this?

Re the ad: It's his stump speech, and it really does encapsulate the broad reasons to vote for him. The idea is to reach out to voters who either (a) still don't know him, and (b) have forgotten what they liked in the first place.

Re the money: I wonder if he's spent it all. That would be bad news.

If the Obama campaign has gotten "off track," it's because they've been forced to play defense for a week. That means that they can't get their message out and that Clinton's dominating the narrative. Give the Clinton campaign credit for pulling it together when it really counts.

If Obama wins Texas, he will be lucky.

I think the ad may seems sort of blah, but it is nearly identical to the one run in Iowa, and it seemed to play well on TV.

I think Obama is unfortunately going to lose both TX and Ohio tomorrow, TX by 3-5 and Ohio by 7-10, and it will be because of Hillary's relentless negativity.

I hope I am wrong, but if I'm not Obama needs to unload on her, big time. My candidate for the first negative TV ad would be one that plays that Mark Penn conference call where there is a very long silence after he's asked what crisis she's really had to face.

Next would be an ad showing Bill Clinton announcing (in 2004) "the Clinton rule" that you should vote against the candidate appealing to your fear and for the candidate appealing to your hopes.

Any other candidates. There are so many fat targets against Hillary, and Obama has refused to go there. That is only a good strategy if the other side is holding its fire to some extent. But Hillary really has been dumping crap every darn day and Obama has to return in kind.

Raymond A - How about an ad on how Hillary didn't read the NIE before voting for war with Iraq?

How about another ad noting that she won't release her tax returns, her White House schedule, her list of donors to the Clinton Library or even her college thesis and finish with the question: "What is Hillary Clinton hiding?"

And then torpedo her experience argument - showing that she didn't even have a security clearance during the Clinton years and the things she was responsible for: health care and the travel office, she messed up royally.

I agree - it's time to go nuclear.

Nate, I disagree: It's not the time to go nuclear. It's comical when the Clinton campaign, when going negative, looks like they're taking another step towards implosion. And it contrasts well when Obama acts cool as a cucumber when the Clintons' heads are exploding.

Going negative would mean that the Clinton camp forced Obama to go off-message. Campaign school 101 teaches that being forced to go off-message shows the strength of the opposition.

I think a valid point that the Obama camp needs to play up is how they've played nice with the Clintons, but she still can't manage to win. They need to emphasize that it shows she's not going to be viable in the GE when there's no question Republicans will tear the Clintons apart.

I like it. Obama can come off as vague and hesitant and too intellectual. Here he seems forceful and passionate.

If being articulate, reasonable, passionate but measured, forthright, and positive counts for anything, this should help. Insinuation and slander are fairly compelling as well, though.

i liked it. he sounds like a real person. he stays positive and shows his legislative chops off as well. win or lose tomorrow, he's run the right kind of campaign, and he's the only chance we have in november. hillary's tax returns are just waiting to sink her credibility.

Who has been Swiftboating Obama, the Canadian Memo, where did that come from and who set him up? Who pushed up Rezko's trial which was to start much later this year? Why did Somali picture come out, along with Farrakahn endoresement and mocking of his middle name? We have to ask these things? Who does not want to give unity and hope a chance?

According to the Chicago Tribune, Clinton phonebankers are calling Obama "Osama bin Laden" and then claiming it is a "slip of the tongue."

Please, someone who knows someone, report this to the Obama campaign.
