But incoming New York Governor David Paterson's affair does not strike me as a large or significant story. Not even that titillating.

Geeze, I hope Mark is not treating the Governor differently on the basis of race!
Of course this matters, mostly in the world of the media, which nowadays seems to be all of the tabloid style. Hey, who cares about the economy going down, the loss of lives in Iraq, the huge financial strain the war is, healthcare, etc...when there's another pseudo-scandal to be had. Look at the coverage of the presidential election: it's all reported like a tit for tat battle, the big news is what surrogates and others say in the way of outrageous comments. The media never focuses on the issues; for them it's all a catfight. And then the press has the gall to wonder why we don't get more progress in this country on the important issues. The media never ever should ask that question...they have lost that right.
Man, this is getting ridiculous. sigh
Of course, if Spitzer had ONLY had an affair, he'd still be Governor. It was the Paid Hos that brought him down.
Scent of a Woman
It's interesting that on drudge this story bumped the story of Bear Sterns, the economy, the Fed, etc. I guess to many in the tabloid style media this past affair is more important than the economy melting down. And then we wonder why people do not understand the economy, or why we don't get greater progress.
marc: on a day you busted Bill Kristol - this story is not worthy of you
Of course, a case can be made that Governor Paterson cannot read the writing on the wall....
Luckily, this is the kind of nonsense most people are tired of. I can't even believe it's "news," but I see from a comment that Drudge declared it news so the lemmings must follow. This revelation that is no one's business won't last in the news past tomorrow. But I do loathe our media. Loathe.
Sounds like the same sort of thing that happened with McCain. The only difference is that Paterson subsequently reconciled with his wife and McCain ended his marriage to marry the other woman. The consensus with McCain seems to be that it is no big deal. I don't see how it's going to be a problem at all for Paterson.
Paterson had an affair? He's human. He is not without sin. And he benefits from a very un-level playing field re: Spitzer. Many people figure that because he was blind that he was a form of saint. He's a member of the human race. I take it as a bizarre sign of progress. All sorts of people are flawed. We are all flawed.
He is a Democrat. This should not be a surprise to anyone.
"He is a Democrat. This should not be a surprise to anyone." True, if he was a Republican it would have been an affair with a homosexual man.
I wonder how many blind dates he had with her before he was finally able to take her into the darkened sack.
Did he say how many blind dates he had with her before he was finally able to take her into the darkened sack?
Dsess But at least he was never accused of seeing her by the press.

Huh. I wonder if this will be good or bad for the Day's Inn in question.
I've got to admire them. It rather spikes everyone's guns.
