Calls Defend Obama In Pennsylvania

From friends at CBS News, here's a recorded telephone call from the mayor of York, PA, John Brenner, defending Sen. Barack Obama's comments.

"Barack Obama understands us. He's got it right, we are frustrated -- frustrated with polices that enable businesses to leave our community, pensions to be stripped, health care benefits to be taken away and homes foreclosed. Unlike his opponents, who have been part of the Washington establishment that are out of touch with us, Barack Obama will change Washington. It is policies that hurt us. He will take on the special interests and fight for us."

Couldn't he have just told me that at Church or the gun range? Why did he have to call?

I worked in a congressional primary campaign in the district around York in 1972. It was hardscrabble then with groundwater contaminated by oil companies, soil stained by mine tailings and residue, and decent people who were bitter but stoic and determined to tough it out.

It's only gotten worse since then as Republicans convinced them to vote on the basis of gods, guns, and gays while they were being robbed blind... robbed of their jobs, robbed of their retirements, robbed of their medical safety nets, robbed of their futures and their children's and grandchildren's.

Senator Obama blew it when he didn't say "vote on the basis of God and guns" instead of "cling to." That doesn't make his observation any less accurate and it's terrific to see the mayor of York standing with him.

I beleave Hilary will do and say anything to get elected. every time she starts to lag in the polls she twist or drags the comments of others and the words of Barack to start a scandle. When will people start to recognize whats happening with this lady. People who turn a blind eye to truth and reality will never be able to be a part of the solution they will only always be the disappointed disgruntled and disenfranchised.I have been watching the campaign religiously and all I see is Hilary attacking and if you the negative people would pay attention you would see Barack is a man who stays on the issue until he has to defend his self on polluted issues that distract people from real issues. Hilary is bad for the Demacratic party because she would rather tear down a good person to meet her own personal goal than to stick with the issues. I was very much for Hilary until I saw just how much she would lie, twist and commit character assasination just to get to the White House so just imagin what she will do once shes there. Baracks back ground suggest he is far from an elitist, when you look at his up bringing and the work he has done for people on the south side of Chicago. I was one of those people I grew up on 115th near Halsted street where he worked and I know exactly what he is talking about the aluminum plant my father worked at is long gone now people have lost a lot and are still losing. If people are so blind to see what is going on with our government yesterday and today then we must come to the conclusion that they would rather be in denial. Hilary, people are bitter with government and your inability to see this makes you and elitist. Barack didn't have a summer home to go to wether it had heat; running water or not.
