Clinton And Obama Contrast Mail In Pennsylvania

17 Apr 2008 02:40 pm

First, here's a page from a Clinton campaign mail piece on NAFTA. The piece implies that Obama , in 2004, favored trade agreements like NAFTA and that his campaign "pandered" to voters while sending different signals abroad. The mailing was provided to this column by someone who does not favor Clinton's election.

The Huffington Post's Stein has what appears to be the Obama campaign's response.

brilliant writing plus it offers a great community in which to discuss. The editor actually takes time to answer and the political humor section is awesome!!!

I really don't think that a Clinton mailer should say "It goes to the question of truthfulness".

Specially since 1, we now know the the Clinton campaign contacted Canada first, and 2, after Bosnia, well its rather obvious.

Of course, we all know that the heroine of Bosnia secretly and single-handed scuttled NAFTA; from the mailing we now know it only passed because of Obama's opinions, years after the fact. Bill's continued support makes no difference; she will never rely on his advice nor have him campaign for her. Where is he now? Don't forget: we can always rely on information from the negotiator of Irish peace. And by the way, don't pay any attention to that Mark Penn behind the curtain. He's not there and he was never paid to help send more jobs abroad via the Colombian free trade agreement and Bill would never favor such an unAmerican act! Be careful, Mr. Obama, you're not in Kansas anymore!

It is interesting...both campaigns clearly think this is something the voters want to know more about and are willing to spend large sums of money on. ABC's two debate hosts never raised the issue last night...does you suppose the real elitists are Gibson and Stephanopoulos?

How come the Obama mailers quote Clinton while the Clinton mailers quote journalists? Isn't there, ya know, a difference?

Crazy what an ellipse can do:

Mailer:

"It goes to the question of truthfulness. Did Barack Obama say one thing privately to a foreign government [about NAFTA] and then say something entirely different to the voters of Ohio and Texas?... that's exactly what he did."

Real quote:

"It goes to the question of truthfulness. In other words, did Barack Obama say one thing privately to a foreign government and then say something entirely different to the voters of Ohio and Texas? And it appears tonight that's exactly what he did and that's exactly what the Clinton campaign is zeroing in on."

Replacing the authority of Clinton campaign attacks with the authority of CTV is clever.

This is called really going negative: Did Obama Give Hillary The Finger Today?

Hillary's campaign is sending this same mailing to Indiana residents under the headline "Hoosier's Deserve the Truth About Obama's Positions on NAFTA and Jobs."
